Exclusive: Leslie Morgenstein, founder of Alloy Entertainment and producer of series including Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, is staying at Warner Bros.
Morgenstein has struck a contract extension with Warner Bros. Television Group that will see him continue as President of the books-to-tv and film company.
Alloy Entertainment, which is also responsible for series including You, was sold to Warner Bros. Television in 2012 and Morgenstein has renewed for a multi-year extension. It is somewhat rare for a founder to continue at such a company after being acquired and hitting their earn-out.
Morgenstein oversees the strategic and creative direction of Alloy and serves as a producer or exec producer on all of Alloy’s movies and television series.
Alloy has three series currently in production: season three of You for Netflix, season three of Legacies for The CW, and season one of the new Gossip Girl for HBO Max. Alloy...

The United States celebrated the end of World War II with Victory in Japan Day on Aug. 14, 1945, exactly 75 years before the release of “Apocalypse ’45,” Erik Nelson’s examination of the war in the Pacific in the words and film footage of the men who were there.
But as that foreboding title suggests, you wouldn’t use a word like “celebrated” to refer to “Apocalypse ’45.” The documentary is a tribute to the men who fought, but it’s also an elegy for those who were lost, and it doesn’t evade questions about the reverberations that linger from the use of the two atomic bombs that helped end the war.
In some ways, it is a film about victory, illustrated with vivid, restored footage that was shot during the war but has largely sat unseen in the National Archives since then. But more than that, it is a film about loss and sacrifice,...

As so many of our holidays go unrecognized this year and our culture rages with what it means to be American, we have The Outpost to remind us of the heroism of everyday men at war.
Historically, thinking of war lends itself to the all-out battle-laden versions of the World Wars, the Civil War, or the Viet Nam War, or the Korean War.
By contrast, a lot of soldiers who have been deployed over the last 25 years are often expected to suck it up and get over it.
With The Outpost, director Rod Lurie and no doubt Jake Tapper, the author of the book on which this film is based, shines a light on soldiers of the 21st century, their heroism, and what they're expected to endure, even if only because leaders make bad decisions.
Launched in 2001, the War in Afghanistan is still raging today, but hopefully, its bloodiest battles are behind us.

This season is shaping up to be one of my favorites.
Good Witch Season 6 Episode 3 is a perfect example of how dramatically the show has changed since the kids departed for college.
Many of the adult characters who formerly languished in the background are getting full-blown stories, and I love it!
Since the beginning of Good Witch Season 6, George has been featured prominently in two storylines. The first helped to introduce Joy, and the latest takes us back to his youth as he survived battle in the Army.
George has the biggest heart. He proves it every day with little things around Grey House and the way he cares deeply for his family, but now we know he was a war hero and remains a hero today.
I've never fully understood how Purple Hearts are awarded, but it didn't surprise me that Harry would want to share the...

All good things come to an end and that includes Season 18 of Bravo’s “Project Runway.” Gold Derby editors Daniel Montgomery and Susan Wloszczyna dissect the events that occurred on “Finale Part 1,” when the last four designers standing — Victoria Cocieru, Sergio Guadarrama, Geoffrey Mac and Nancy Volpe-Beringer — each showed three outfits from their collections to the judges with mixed results.
Daniel, ever the optimist, has a feeling that all four will likely get to take part in New York Fashion Week and show their collections. Susan, far more a realist, believes that Sergio might just be left behind. She just wasn’t into his whole theme about the ice caps melting. “It’s like, just make beautiful clothes and that will do enough to improve the state of the environment.” As for Sergio’s attempt to grow leather in a bathtub in his home by using fermented kombucha, Daniel was...

The legendary MacGruber. Former Navy Seal, Army Ranger and Green Beret. Served six tours in Desert Storm, four in Bosnia, three each in Angola, Somalia, Mozambique, Nicaragua and Sierra Leone. Recipient of sixteen Purple Hearts, three Congressional Medals of Honor, seven Presidential Medals of Bravery and starting tight end for the University of Texas, El Paso. And now, despite having a box office bomb under his belt, he’s been picked up for a brand new TV show to continue his legacy.
Announced today, NBC has boldly stated that they’re reviving the MacGruber brand and will be making a new series based on the continuing exploits of the world’s best improv solider for their upcoming streaming service, Peacock. Obviously, Will Forte will be back to star as the titular hero, alongside picking up writing and executive producing duties. And Jorma Taccone, one-third of The Lonely Island and director...

“90210” alum Trevor Donovan will play a fighter pilot in the World War II action movie “Wolf Hound,” Variety has learned exclusively.
“Wolf Hound” is inspired by the real-life plot designed to fly Allied aircraft as Trojan horses behind enemy lines. The action takes place in 1944 as a fighter pilot escorts a B-17 bomber into Nazi territory and engages in a one-on-one aerial joust with a Nazi ace pilot, destroying both of their planes and forcing them to bail out and parachute to the forest floor.
Donovan will play German ace Major Erich Roth. Donovan’s real-life grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, along with his uncle Cedrick, who was in the Army and received two Purple Hearts. James Maslow will also star in “Wolf Hound” as a fighter pilot for the Allies.
Michael B. Chait will be making his feature directorial debut with “Wolf Hound.

The legendary actor talks about his new History Channel reality show
R. Lee Ermey made his big break with his towering performance in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket and he's made a career of portraying colorful characters since then. These days, Ermey is venturing into the world of reality TV with his new show, Lock N' Load, which is currently airing on Friday nights at 9 Pm Et on the History Channel. Ermey recently participated on a conference call to promote his new series, and here's what he had to say.
You know, the show obviously it's fun to watch you use these weapons and blow stuff up, but beyond that I mean it's genuinely interesting. Can you sort of talk about the historic values that come along with the show?
R. Lee Ermey: Well, that's the objective is to give a history of different type of weapons, like we...
