Wolverine #6 Writer: Saladin Ahmed | Artist: Martin Coccolo | Colourist Bryan Valenza | Letters: Cory Petit
As I predicted last issue this arc is not wrapping up with the sixth issue. On the positive side of this turn of events, Ahmed does a good job of keeping the story ticking. This is done by having a good blend of action and exposition. And by bringing in two new elements to give the arc a refresh, the second of which we will touch on later. Donald Pierce is added to the mix. I feel this is a good choice of adversary as Ahmed continues his journey through the rogues gallery. Through the years he has had some tangible connection to Wolverine, even making an appearance in a movie. Visually though I found him odd, he lack a bit of dynamism. All the villains we have seen in this arc thus far are visually appealing.

With three MCU movies opening this year, and The Avengers: Doomsdaystarting production in England in March, all eyes are turning to the next major franchise and phase, The X-Men. And with the discovery and introduction of adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World, fans are finally getting their first hints of Marvel's famous mutants. Rumors have been flying about who could be cast in different roles, and the latest is The Substance's Margaret Qualley might be starring as Rogue.
Take this rumor from Jeff Sneider with a grain or two of salt, but he's saying that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are considering Qualley to take on the role of Rogue, who was famously played by Anna Paquin in the original Fox movies. It should be noted that Sneider isn't sure if she's the main actress Marvel is considering, or one of several.

First of all, I think it’s good to have an Ultimate universe back that is generating such a buzz. I have heard Spider-Man is very good, whilst I myself am very interested in The Ultimates and will be picking up the first trade. Black Panther and X-Men to my knowledge both received mixed reviews. Naturally, then I was very excited to see Wolverine would be the next character introduced to the line. Part of the interest stems from the fact that in the original Ultimates line Wolverine was pretty much still the same character. Here I am expecting something more radical in terms of a reimagining. A stand out of the new Ultimates line has been the willingness to turn books over to less established names like Deniz Camp on Ultimates. On Wolverine we...

Captain America: Brave New World is now playing in theaters and, while critics are divided on the latest MCU movie, it does appear to be receiving a far warmer response from fans and regular moviegoers.
While the blockbuster was clearly reworked through extensive reshoots, this is still a Marvel Studios title. That means it's full of Easter Eggs, references to the comic books and wider MCU, and cameos even the most die-hard fans might have missed while watching this one.
In this feature, we're breaking those down and highlighting everything from familiar facial hair to recycled convention photos and even the MCU debuts of a few very obscure characters.

In Sam Wilson's new base - which is a) awesome, and b) gets nowhere near enough screentime - we see several photos.

Captain America: Brave New World is the latest installment in the MCU, featuring Anthony Mackie in his first standalone film as Captain America. In this movie, he faces The Leader and, ultimately, Red Hulk, as he seeks to prove himself as more than just a worthy successor to Steve Rogers.
Without giving too much away, the film also lays the groundwork for the future of the MCU, particularly in setting up the new Avengers team and the introduction of Adamantium. During a press interview, it was confirmed that this will eventually tie into the Weapon X program and Wolverine.
A few months ago, a leaked plot from a test screening surfaced online, and we already covered how the leaked plot was fairly accurate with one major difference, Amadeus Cho was removed from the final cut of the film. However, according to most recent leaks, the movie’s original cut went...

Captain America: Brave New Worldis about to introduce a game-changing element to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it isn't the Red Hulk. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it was confirmed that Captain America: Brave New World would introduce the metal adamantium into the MCU. Adamantium is best known as being the metal that is bonded with Wolverine to give him his metal skeleton, though the fictional metal predated Wolverine's creation as it was first introduced in The Avengers #66 from July 1969 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith and Syd Shores as the plating for the villain Ultron.
The MCU version of adamantium will be derived from the Celestial head Tiamut, last seen in Eternals, answering the question every Marvel fan seems to bring up with each new MCU property: "How come nobody mentions the giant head in the Indian Ocean?" While Deadpool & & Wolverine did feature Wade Wilson wielding adamantium katanas and Wolverine himself,...

With the X-Men set to make their long-awaited debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the rumor mill is firing up with various casting scoops. Just this week, a rumor circulated online about a trio of names being eyed for leading roles, but that's been overshadowed by a much more seismic rumor: Marvel is said to be interested in casting the Denzel Washington as a major villain in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
As with the previous casting rumor, the latest originated with Jeff Sneider. On a new episode of The Hot Mic podcast (via /Film), Sneider discussed Denzel Washington's role in the upcoming Black Panther 3. While he stopped short of putting it in plain terms, Sneider ultimately said he thinks Washington "could be the villain of X-Men," clearly alluding to Magneto, the mutant arch-nemesis previously played by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender. While Sneider has a decent track record with scoops,...

"Deadpool & Wolverine" really clicked with audiences last year. They loved the picture so much they made it into the highest-grossing "X-Men" adjacent film ever. Seeing Hugh Jackman's revenant Logan teaming up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth is something Marvel fans had clamored for since 2016's "Deadpool."
Logan and Wade Wilson have a decades-long comic history together, even if (as seen in "Deadpool & Wolverine") Wolverine has little patience for the flippant and clingy Deadpool. Tying into the success of the movie, Marvel has launched a new ongoing "Deadpool & Wolverine" comic book series, presumably putting the two into a series of action misadventures together just like the one from the blockbuster film.

The Ultimate Wolverinehas finally debuted as Marvel’s Ultimate Universe’s next revamped hero. Martial arts sequences in films are often impressive, but they take a lot of work behind the scenes, with a few actors putting in the work to learn martial arts to pull off such scenes. Many of the iconic martial arts films and scenes that come to mind are carried out by martial arts legends like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, but these actors had already trained in martial arts years before they got their start in films.
Other actors such as Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Michelle Yeoh learned martial arts in preparation for a particular project, with only a few continuing to be known for their other martial arts films after the fact. The commitment to the physicality that comes with a martial arts role isn't always necessary. Still, it adds an appreciated layer to the actor's performance, improving the overall believability of the film's fight scenes.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Hellverine #1
Marvel’s newest Ghost Rider, the Hellverine, is officially on the road and dealing out his version of lethal vengeance. Bound to the demon Bagra-ghul, Akihiro has become a vessel for Mephisto’s dark whims, leaving behind a trail of unimaginable atrocities. Nicknamed a “punishing artist,” this is a Ghost Rider unlike any other. Unfortunately for the son of Wolverine, both Mephisto and Bagra-ghul have even darker plans ahead.
Hellverine #1 – written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Raffaele Ienco – kicks off Akihiro’s journey as the Hellverine. After rejecting Project Hellfire and his father’s support, he sets off to battle his demons alone.
As with all Ghost Riders, the demon instinctively guides Akihiro toward evil. When they get close, Akihiro loses control and the demonic master of torturous artistry emerges. However, unlike most Ghost Riders, the Hellverine leaves something behind from his victims as a monument to his master.

Waepon X-Men launches next year, bringing Wolverine, Deadpool, Cable and more onto the same team of mutant badasses. Series writer Joe Casey recently opened up about how the series almost died before it got off the ground, as Marvel nearly killed the series due to a behind-the-scenes mix-up.

This issue was never not going to make the list. I choose it because it centres around Maverick but of course, it is a Wolverine story first and foremost. When I got into collecting Wolverine comics one of the things I wanted to learn about first was the history of Team X. In that regard this issue delivers as it alternates between the past and present. In te present Maverick has contracted the Legacy Virus and is attempting to trick Wolverine into killing him. The flashbacks reveal how Maverick would go to any lengths to complete a mission after Sabretooth has sabotaged their exit route. There are elements in this story that are touched upon in novels and cartoons that I had read before this issue, so to see it in comics was very cool.

X-Men: Apocalypse features one of Wolverine’s best scenes, but it’s unfortunately destined to be forgotten because of the project it’s in. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been the core of the X-Men franchise since its start in 2000, and it’s no surprise that he’s a fan favorite because of his consistently stellar performances. The character has so many great moments throughout the franchise that it’s hard to keep track, but one of his best scenes is undoubtedly a brutal action sequence in X-Men: Apocalypse where the experiment Weapon X is let loose.
The prequel X-Men film follows the team as they try to stop the ancient mutant Apocalypse, who wants to build his ideal world at the cost of the current life on the planet. Some of the X-Men are captured by military forces at one point, and Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Jean Grey attempt to break them out.

Described by film scholar Andrew Willis as arguably the most recognizable film star in the world, Jackie Chan remains the most significant figure in action cinema over the past half-century. Working as an actor, director, writer, and action choreographer, Chan achieved mainstream success in both the Eastern and Western hemispheres. Fans have come to easily recognize his acrobatic, improvised martial arts fighting style, but there's more to his best films than just top-notch action sequences.
During the early 1970s, Bruce Lee played a substantial role in catapulting the Hong Kong film industry to the forefront of world cinema. Lee's premature death left a void that Jackie Chan ultimately filled. Chan's combination of slapstick humor with world-class action choreography helped to create some of cinema's greatest films.
Updated December 5, 2024, by Christopher Raley: As one of the most memorable action stars to hit the screen, Jackie Chan has starred in Chinese and Hollywood films.

Wolverine is one of Marvel's most well-known mutants, and now he's becoming the Ultimate Universe version of the Winter Soldier - and the reasoning is surprisingly simple. While on the surface the two might seem like they have nothing in common, at a closer glance, the idea of making Wolverine the Winter Soldier is so simple that it's surprising that no one has ever decided to do it before.
It was revealed at New York Comic Con 2024 that the Earth-6160 version of Wolverine would be none other than the Winter Soldier in Ultimate Wolverine by Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio. This is a pretty major change from the 616 universe, as the original Wolverine is usually nothing but a hero and a proud member of the X-Men. But this new Ultimate Universe has been twisted towards evil by the machinations of the Maker.

In the new Ultimate Universe, it's revealed that Wolverine isn't a hero at all, despite his 616 origins as a long-standing member of the X-Men. Instead, he's the Maker's "ultimate" weapon as the Winter Soldier.
In the upcoming Ultimate Wolverine by Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio, readers will see a brutal Wolverine who is far from the hero that most fans know him to be, as Condon promises in a statement published on Marvel.com: "You might notice that there’s a Red Star on his costume and you might wonder why. There are only a few months left until Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters. Despite the controversies surrounding its development, fans have a lot to look forward to.
This movie marks Sam Wilson’s first solo adventure as Captain America in the MCU, and we’ll also see Thaddeus Ross transform into the Red Hulk. The latest trailer and rumors suggest that the film will address a previously overlooked aspect of the MCU—Celestial Tiamut. His corpse will become a key source of adamantium.
Adamantium, the powerful metal known for Wolverine’s claws and skeleton, will play a major role in Brave New World. At the start of the film, countries are competing for control of adamantium resources. President Ross plans to share these resources globally and recruits Sam Wilson to help rebuild the Avengers.
Adamantium is a nearly indestructible steel alloy, denser than vibranium, and more effective for drilling.

Wolverine is one of Marvel's most popular characters, so his death is always a major event - including his perfect 2014 death. Logan has died several times in continuity, but Marvel has never been able to top a death that happened over ten years ago, and it happened entirely off-screen, which is why it's so surprising that it was such a major character moment for him.
When Marvel celebrated its 100th anniversary in the 100th Anniversary Special: Avengers #1 by James Stokoe, readers were treated to a surprising revelation about the fate of Wolverine. In this story, Wolverine is dead and gone far in the future, but his legacy lives on in Rogue, who has permanently absorbed his powers and abilities.
Rogue's involvement might be a surprise to long-time fans, as Wolverine wasn't on great terms with Rogue when they first met.

Wolverine is one of the most popular X-Men characters, in large part because he can be thrown into just about any time period or team and make some amount of sense. His popular appeal further increased when Hugh Jackman took on the role in the first X-Men film back in 2000. That version of the character has appeared in a total of ten movies and, as Deadpool and Wolverine joked, "They’re gonna make him do this till he’s 90."
The character that fans know and love was born in 1832 with the name James Howlett, but he lost his memory during his time with the Weapon X program, which also fused adamantium to his bones. Depending on the timeline, he then joined the X-Men and tried to protect young mutants from those who wanted to see them dead or imprisoned.

The X-Men film franchise has introduced audiences to some of the most formidable and skilled fighters in the Marvel universe. Over the years, these movies have portrayed a diverse lineup of mutants and other characters, each with their unique fighting styles and abilities. While some rely on using their abilities to overwhelm opponents, others demonstrate exceptional technique, agility, and hand-to-hand combat prowess. Whether wielding claws, tactically harnessing powers, or using weapons, these fighters have shaped the franchises most intense and memorable battles, displaying not only physical skill but also strategic mastery on the battlefield.
Beyond their mutant abilities, many of these characters have honed their fighting skills through years of training, and experience in the heat of battle for mutant rights. From disciplined warriors to calculating powerhouses, these fighters have proven themselves as the franchises elite, pushing their limits against dangerous enemies from within and outside mutant-kind. Warning: Spoilers for Wolverine: Revenge #3Wolverines path of revenge has finally caught up with Deadpool, and the end result is incredibly dark. Their final meeting is equal parts poignant and brutal, concluding with Wolverine killing Deadpool in a way thats undeniably dark, but also incredibly intelligent; their final meeting also provides new insight into their relationship with one another.
Wolverine: Revenge #3 by Jonathan Hickman, Greg Capullo, Tim Townsend, Fco Plascencia, and Cory Petit features Wolverine crossing the rest of his names off his kill list, with Deadpool among them. After killing Sabretooth, Wolverine makes his way through the rest of the Brotherhood by sailing to Russia. Once he arrives, he seeks out Omega Red and strangles him with his carbonadium tentacles before hanging him from a tree with them. Heroes & Villains Creative Director Doug Johnson is thrilled to introduce the ‘Weapon X’ collection at Nycc, and with it, a detailed and fan-oriented experience for the company’s booth on the showfloor.
The new collection, in part based on Deadpool & Wolverine, puts the attention on both titular characters––but with a twist. Instead of their colorful superhero personas, this line is meant to be born out of their personalities before going through their Weapon X experiences.
Those terrifying experiments also make the foundation of Heroes & Villains Nycc floor booth, which is modeled after a Weapon X laboratory.

Almost nothing is known about Marvel's Wolverine, the upcoming title from Insomniac Games. Since the game's reveal in 2021, Insomniac has remained radio silent on the progression of development. Naturally, this has caused anticipation to skyrocket as speculation grows on how the final product will turn out, yet that also comes with worry about what could go wrong for Logan. In particular, there's one popular point of discussion among Marvel games in general, which could serve as a major pitfall for Wolverine.
It's no secret that Marvel's Wolverine has a lot to live up to. Not only must the game provide a faithful adaptation of Weapon X, but it must compete against Insomniac's own critically-acclaimed Spider-Man trilogy. One popular idea that has been circulating, likely inspired by Marvel's film counterparts, would be for Insomniac to use the characters at its disposal to create an ambitious shared gaming universe. "Deadpool & Wolverine" was one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer, and could have been the biggest if it wasn't for Joy and Anxiety and all of those irresistible emotions from "Inside Out 2" becoming the biggest animated movie of all time and sitting in the #1 spot on the 2024 box office charts. But if Wade Wilson and Logan are your favorite mutants, then this new collection of apparel and accessories should grab your attention.
Heroes & Villains, the purveyors of stylish pop culture-inspired clothing and gear, are releasing a new Weapon X collection that's inspired by Wolverine and Deadpool. More specifically, it's centered on the characters being part of the experimental program that turned them both into deadly mutants. Weapon X was first mentioned in "The Incredible Hulk" #180 back in 1974, the same issue where Wolverine debuts (which got a nod in "Deadpool & Wolverine), and it would become even more...

Fox's X-Men universe created an incredible Marvel universe with some exciting and iconic villains. Across 13 films and more than 20 years, it can be difficult even to know the order to watch the X-Men movies. The franchise overall worked so well because of how much time and effort was spent developing incredible villains for the series that could stand up to the beloved team of heroes.
Across all of Marvel, X-Men might have one of the best libraries of villains, second only to perhaps Spider-Man. With the animated X-Men '97 villains taking up much attention in 2024, it is worth reviewing the villains that filled the feature films Fox produced over the years. While iconic foes like Mister Sinister are likely ahead for the franchise when the MCU reboots it, so much ground concerning X-Men villains has already been covered with these incredible foes.

Wolverine isn't just a guy with claws and a healing factor. He's an animalistic hero who is barely a mutant at all. There are plenty of reasons for a man with an anger problem to be a frenzied fighter, considering his traumatic backstory and just how many times Marvel has tried to kill him - but this new era of Wolverine is pulling no punches.
Right out the gate, Wolverine shows his mettle, which goes beyond the metal of his adamantium skeleton. Deadpool & Wolverine couldn't host every Marvel movie cameo, but at least one reject can be witnessed in all its glory in a 4-year-old perfectly crafted cosplay. The myriad cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine made such a splash that they're still being talked about two months after its record-breaking release date. Despite being crammed to the brim with easter eggs, Deadpool & Wolverine's cameos that never came to pass still feel pertinent as fans lament the absence of such prominent X-Men movie legends as Storm and Cyclops. Yet, while he made multiple cameos, Wolverine's coolest variant was omitted nonetheless.
Thankfully, while Deadpool & Wolverine didn't feature a Weapon X cameo, @dorksidefitness provided a perfect look at what it might have looked like via Reddit four years ago.

Cutting one Wolverine variant from Deadpool & Wolverine meant that Henry Cavill's shocking MCU debut avoided being undermined by a more interesting version of the clawed X-Men member. Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine was jam-packed with multiversal variants, as well as focusing on developing the story of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. This meant there wasn't time to include all the exciting and hilarious variants that were originally planned for the movie, but one Wolverine who did appear might be grateful for that.
Wade Wilson's own variants had a fairly large role in Deadpool & Wolverine, as the Deadpool Corps battled the titular mutant heroes in service of Emma Corrin's sinister Cassandra Nova. Wolverine's MCU variants also delivered the entertainment factor, harking back to some of Logan's most iconic Marvel Comics stories. Perhaps his most crucial comic storyline was ignored, however, but Wolverine's history with the Weapon X program,...

When Deadpool & Wolverine brought back Tyler Manes Sabretooth, it finally gave fans a rematch that was decades in the making. Everyone who watched 2000s X-Men knew that a mere fall off the Statue of Liberty (even after a blast from Cyclops) wouldnt be enough to put Sabretooth down for good, yet he still didnt make another appearance until Deadpool & Wolverine. Well, actually thats not true, as Tyler Manes Sabretooth did return in a previous storyline, and Deadpool & Wolverine did him dirty by ignoring it.

Wolverine is one of the most iconic heroes around and I mean both visually and characteristically. He has endured for 50 years in the comics and is now a big-screen powerhouse. He has an instantly recognisable aesthetic whether he is in costume or his street clothes. He even has the ability to change his fatigues on a regular basis and still hold that visual appeal. Sometime last year I did a round-up of his most famous costumes and highlighted some of the best artists to work on each. This is an extension of that, but looking more in-depth at what artists have contributed what visuals to Wolverine body part by body part (which sounds way dirtier than I meant it). By the end of it, I will present to you my top 5 Wolverine artists of all time. I want to preface all of what is about to follow by saying that...

New concept art from Deadpool & Wolverine has revealed a new variant, which I'm annoyed wasn't used in the MCU movie, as this could have improved on the best scene from 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's debut in the MCU explored the multiverse more than most previous movies, bridging the gap between Earth-616 and Earth-10005, and introducing many new variants to live-action. Having said that, I think Deadpool & Wolverine could have showcased even more of the multiverse's potential, and new concept art has proven me right.
One of my favorite moments in Deadpool & Wolverine saw Ryan Reynolds' titular Merc with a Mouth journey to several different realities on the hunt for a replacement Wolverine. He meets a Wolverine of comic-accurate height, Patch, Old Man Logan, Fever Dream Logan, a Hulk-fighting Wolverine, the Cavillrine and the Wolverine from Marvel Comics' Age of Apocalypse, but...

The gargantuan box office success of "Deadpool & Wolverine" is both a blessing and a curse. If you're a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, your beloved franchise has been saved by the Merc with the Mouth following a rocky few years that had many questioning whether the MCU was petering out. But if you're an MCU fan that fondly recalls the early years of the franchise, when the movies had a tad more in the way of story and character development, the success of "Deadpool & Wolverine" might be slightly concerning. That is to say that if "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Ryan Reynolds' latest box office juggernaut are anything to go by, future Marvel Studios films — and, god forbid, blockbusters in general — might well devolve into simple montages of various cameos in an attempt to keep the money rolling in.

For many comic book fans, one of the most enjoyable and talked-about sequences in Deadpool and Wolverine saw Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) jump to various different timelines/universes in search of a Logan (Hugh Jackman) variant to replace his world's anchor being after escaping from the Tva.

Wolverine may be one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe, a valiant member of the X-Men who has time and again put his own life on the line to protect others, but hes also a vicious killer who wont think twice about (quite literally) eviscerating his enemies. Indeed, Wolverine is the best there is at what he does for a reason, as the thing he does best is kill people - not very nice at all.
Logan doesnt enjoy the act of killing like some other Weapon X antiheroes/villains (such as Deadpool or Sabretooth), but that doesnt detract from the fact that hes very good at it, and that skill came from years of practice. Wolverine has quite the mix of superpowers: enhanced senses that are more animal than human, rapid healing that makes him basically immortal, and a skeleton/claws coated in unbreakable metal adamantium.
Adamantium is now synonymous with Wolverine, but its origins go back further to an earlier publication: 1969's "Avengers" #66, published five years before Wolverine's debut in "Incredible Hulk" #180-181. Written by Roy Thomas and drawn by artist Barry Windsor-Smith, the issue kicks off a three-part story where adamantium is the weapon of a villain. Which one? Ultron, the Avengers' android archnemesis, who was played many years later by James Spader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
"Avengers" #66 was Ultron's third major appearance, and since then he's generally been depicted as having a (near) indestructible form made of adamantium. If he's going to fight Earth's Mightiest Heroes, after all, mere steel won't be enough. So, how did...

Wolverine's age has been a long-standing mystery, but it was officially revealed in the comics and later on the big screen. In the comic books, Wolverine was born around 1882, while in the X-Men movies, he was born in 1832. The various adaptations of Wolverine in the Marvel Universe provide different ages for the character, giving room for interpretation.
Of all Marvel's X-Men characters, the most popular is, without a doubt, Wolverine. With an accelerated healing factor, Logan has lived far beyond a typical human lifespan, a trait and history that has been touched upon in numerous adaptations, including the Fox films that starred Hugh Jackman in the role. For a long time, the character's age remained a mystery, and fans could only guess at how many decades or centuries lay behind him.
