Dr. Wu is continuing to reveal several upcoming third-party Transformers figures, with most of these based on Generation 1 characters. The latest figures to be shown off are the color prototypes for two rather forgotten G1 Decepticons.
On the Weibo account for Dr. Wu, new images for Dw-E61 Brutality & Dw-E62 Slaughter were recently showcased. These are third-party figures based on the classic Cassetticons Overkill and Slugfest, who are perhaps the most overlooked minions of the Decepticon communications officer, Soundwave. Meant to be compatible with official toys based on their master, these action figures can be pre-ordered and are expected to be released in a matter of months.

Dr. Wu has become one of the premiere third-party companies for unofficial Transformers action figures, with the company producing several animation-accurate toys. The lineup is about to be bolstered with four new toys, two of which homage the brand's most esoteric Generation 1 releases.
Dw-E37 Leap, Dw-E38 Pulse Gun & Dw E-39 Wheel Hub are Dr. Wu's take on G1 Cliffjumper, Shockwave and Hubcap, the latter of whom has a strange connection to both Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. Meant to be in scale with modern Micromaster toys, these figures recreate the characters' Generation 1 animation models with loads of unexpected articulation. Likewise, Shockwave/Pulse Gun will also receive another, far more obscure color scheme, while fans can even get something extra for the two Autobots if they pre-order the toys. This is along with reissues of previous releases that tie into Hasbro and Takara's official Transformers toys.

Henry Cavill Helped Christopher McQuarrie Solve the Green Lantern Puzzle for Canceled Man of Steel 2
“You got the touch… You got the power… Yeah!” Stan Bush’s 1986 cult classic from The Transformers blared in our head when we first heard about what could have been: Christopher McQuarrie, Henry Cavill, Superman, and yes, Green Lantern. We mean, come on. That’s like Zeus offering you a thunderbolt and then deciding, “Nah, maybe not.”
So, we’re talking about a sequel that had spine, soul, and a soaring sense of direction until the studio pulled the brakes like a bat out of bureaucratic hell. Imagine McQuarrie teaming up again with Cavill. They didn’t just want to make a Man of Steel 2, they wanted to make a whole damn event. But now? It’s all whispers and what-ifs.

If you were a kid of the 1980s your childhood was filled with some of the most amazing cartoon adventures in history. I’m talking about The Transformers, ThunderCats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and G.I. Joe. But there is one we did not list there, which was He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.
Now we have seen reboots and live-action films. But that was quite a few years ago. For many, many years, we had heard rumours of movies and new series, but all those came to nothing. That is, until Netflix and Kevin Smith joined forces to bring us a ‘sequel’ to the original classic with Masters of the Universe Revelation + Revolution, featuring two epic story arcs.

Several third-party companies have released their own Transformers figures based on Generation 1 Optimus Prime. Dr. Wu is no different in this regard, with a previous toy now being re-released in a new color scheme that's 'clearly' very different.
The company's Dw-E04T Prime Commander is a variant of Dr. Wu's previous Prime Commander figure, which is a Micromaster-scale recreation of G1 Prime. This time, however, the toy is cast in a translucent color scheme, giving it something resembling a candy coating. With everything from the trailer to the energon ax having a see-through sheen, this take on Prime shines brighter than ever before.

Ever since the days of Generation 1, the most iconic Combiner team in the Transformers franchise has been the Constructions. Now, this team is represented in its various vehicle modes through the latest wave of cross-promotional products.
Part of the Transformers "Galaxy Defender" series from Blokees, the new Blokees Constructicon figures showcase the Decepticon team in vehicle mode. Recreating their G1 designs, the toys are complete with a slightly animated aesthetic. On top of this, the construction vehicles can even combine, preparing the Autobots for extermination in the process.
Blokees' New Wave of Transformers Figures Unites Devastating Power of the Constructicons
The Constructicons are part of a new wave of the Transformers Galaxy Defender toys from Blokees, with these being officially licensed takes on the robots in disguise. Unlike most of the Blokees toys, which are based on the characters' robot modes, these instead portray the vehicle modes of the Constructicons.

Sega’s racing arcade classic OutRun could be getting a film adaptation at Universal courtesy of director Michael Bay. Let’s hope the news is more than a passing breeze.
As moving as it was, director Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun still left us faintly disappointed that it didn’t involve a young couple racing across 1980s USA in a red Ferrari. Thankfully, Michael Bay could be about to make our retro arcade dreams a reality.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Universal plans to adapt Sega’s 1986 racing coin-op, OutRun, with Michael Bay directing and Sydney Sweeney set to produce. According to Deadline’s exclusive, the OutRun movie will be made through Platinum Dunes, the studio he co-founded with producer Brad Fuller, while the script will be written by Jayson Rothwell.

The first and most influential part of the Transformers franchise is still the Generation 1 era, especially the classic cartoon The Transformers. Now, new preliminary character models and development notes reveal a closer look at some of the later characters from that cartoon, particularly a prehistoric Decepticon.
Showcased via archives for Sunbow and Marvel productions, these Transformers character sheets look closer at prominent and obscure parts of G1. Some of the details revealed in these files show elements that were either unused or completely changed in the finished product. This particularly affects two Decepticons -- namely, the evil faction's new leader and one of its most dangerous living weapons.
G1 Transformers Concept Art Reveals a Different Side of Two Decepticons
The newly-revealed G1 concept art for The Transformers mainly focuses on characters seen in the third season of the 1980s cartoon. Some of these weren't particularly prominent in the cartoon, such as the Autobot Triple-Changer Broadside.

Spock from "Star Trek" is easily one of the most influential science-fiction characters ever, flat-out. Even actor Leonard Nimoy never escaped the Vulcan's shadow — despite having a long, fulfilling career outside of it. Indeed, before his passing in 2015, Nimoy voiced villains in two separate "Transformers" films.
In the 1986 animated "Transformers" film, Nimoy played Galvatron, the reborn form of Decepticon leader Megatron, galvanized by the power of the dark god Unicron. Later, in Michael Bay's 2011 live-action film, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Nimoy voiced Sentinel Prime, mentor of Autobot leader Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen). Starting a "Transformers" tradition, Sentinel turned out to be a villain, allying himself with the Decepticons to conquer Earth and restore the Transformers' war-ruined world of Cybertron.
Aside from his two voiceover roles, Nimoy impacted "Transformers" in another important way via Spock. Marvel Comics writer Bob Budiansky, who wrote the original "Transformers" character bios and much of the proceeding comic,...

By the early 1990s, the legendary Transformers franchise had already fallen out of favor in the West as a cartoon and toyline. Having ended its first incarnation beforehand, Hasbro prepped the brand to be rebooted into the ultimately failed Transformers: Generation 2. It hadn't ended yet in Japan, however, which is where the property had gotten its start. Before Japan put the series on ice, however, there were a few more chapters left in the Generation 1 story.
Transformers: The Battlestars was the media representation for the Transformers: Return of Convoy toyline, and it was the first Japanese incarnation of the G1 subseries to not receive a corresponding anime. Fairly esoteric in the West, it represented the waning days of the brand in Japan. Now, it's being revived via the latest toyline for the series, with its incarnation of Optimus Prime being its most notable legacy.

Michael Bay's first Transformers movie is now trending on Netflix. Prior to directing Transformers, many of Michael Bay's best movies were already within the action genre, with some of them also being part of larger franchises. He directed Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, the first installments of the successful franchise that most recently released a fourth movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die earlier in 2024. It performed well at the box office and has led to the possibility of the series continuing with Bad Boys 5.

"Transformers" does not have a singular creator — that's what happens when a story begins for commercial reasons, not artistic ones. During the 1980s, toy giant Hasbro imported several Japanese action figures of transforming robots. The Reagan administration had also loosened regulations on advertising in children's entertainment, so now Hasbro just needed a story to sell these "Transformers."
That call was answered by Marvel Comics, who Hasbro had already partnered with Marvel to develop their "G.I. Joe" series. In 1981, writer Larry Hama was pitching a new Nick Fury series. Then in came Hasbro, who wanted creative input for their planned action figure line "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero." Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter first suggested the idea of G.I. Joe as a anti-terrorism team, and proposed that Hama fold his ideas for Nick Fury into "G.I. Joe." Cue an ongoing "Joe" comic written by Hama, published by Marvel hitting stands in 1982.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Lofting died "unexpectedly" on Wednesday at her home in Burbank, California. No additional details were shared about her passing, though Lofting's death was confired by her agents, Nery Lemus and Christopher Arsaga of CelebWorx. Lofting was born on Feb. 2, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her career as a voiceover artist began in 1979 when she started voicing the role of Princess Invidia for the TV series Star Blazers. Quick Links Shockwave Was Barely Used In Past Transformers Movies Transformers One Reduces a Fan-Favorite Decepticon to a Joke A Transformers Movie With Shockwave May Not Happen for a While
When it comes to villains in the Transformers franchise, the property is still mostly defined by Generation 1. This has seen Megatron, Starscream, and to some extent, Soundwave appearing in various projects, namely movies. Sadly, this cinematic presence hasn't been felt for one deadly Decepticon, and the trend sadly continued with the franchise's latest entry.
Shockwave has been around since the days of Transformers G1, but he's almost never been big in the Transformers movies. That's especially the case in Transformers One, where he's sadly there just as part of a disappointing joke. Given the status of the franchise's future at the box office following this movie, it's highly questionable as to when the character might finally be the central villain in another film.

When someone hears the words "ninja" and "turtles," what usually springs to mind is the silly, comical team of reptilian brothers known worldwide as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These brothers -- Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo -- came to the minds of creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1983. Drawing inspiration from ninja characters they had seen in Frank Miller comics such as Daredevil and Ronin, Laird and Eastman sketched various images of ninja turtles. Soon after the Tmnt comics came out, they became a huge success.
With the success of the comic came the original animated Saturday morning cartoon in 1987, which gave voices to the characters. Likewise, the success of this TV series led to the first live-action movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in 1990, a box office smash hit. To achieve the status of a true icon in Hollywood, actors must work consistently to prove their skills across years and decades, although this can also mean that some legacies end better than others. Although many performers are immediately associated with success and prestige, when looking at the final entries in some stars' filmographies, certain movies tarnish their incredible legacies. This may be due to an actor's declining popularity in their later years or just strange creative decisions that led to the release of lackluster final movies.
Some of the greatest actors of all time have an unfortunate final film that failed to live up to their best work. While many of these final movies had their merit, they just did not have the same level of gravitas or impact as the films that made them famous and that they will be primarily remembered for. During the tail end of the 1980s, Hasbro and Takaras beloved toy line came to life when The Transformers overtook the world in an animated series version. Since then, the love and following behind the shape-shifting hunks of metal has only continued to grow, inspiring games, books, and comics. As film technology continued to grow, director Michael Bay buckled into the drivers seat and decided it was, at long last, time for audiences to see these machines of greatness in live-action form. And thus, the blockbuster helmer brought the world 2007s Transformers. Whether he realized it or not, the debut film, which starred Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox, would soon take on a life of its own, transforming into a full-blown franchise. Soon, Netflix subscribers can see where it all began when the high-octane, engine-rumbling movie arrives on the streamer on December 1.

"The Transformers" made its U.S. television debut in 1984, produced by Sunbow Entertainment and conceived to market Hasbro's line of car-robot action figures. In 1984, a franchise was born that has not only spanned every decade since its first episode launched, but continues to thrive, evolve, and entertain generations to this day. The cartoon that started the franchise, titled The Transformers, also affectionately known as "Generation 1" to fans of the series, aired from 1984 to 1987, with the theatrical release, Transformers: The Movie hitting cinemas in 1986, and was set between the events in Season 2 and 3.

Transformers One features Sentinel Prime as its main villain, raising questions about why he betrayed the former leaders of Cybertron, the Primes. The newest film in the franchise takes a somewhat different route for the origin story of Optimus Prime. In Transformers One, Optimus is known as Orion Pax, a low-class Cybertronian who works his life away as a miner of Energon. This links to the story of Transformers One's Sentinel Prime, who claims there is an important reason as to why the miners must work as hard as they do.
However, by the time of Transformers One's climactic ending, Sentinel Prime is discovered as a traitor. It is revealed that Sentinel betrayed the old Primes, leading Orion Pax and his friend D-16 on a journey that sees them become the iconic figures of Optimus Prime and Megatron from Transformers lore. A potential sequel to Transformers One would...

If there's a name synonymous with the Transformers franchise, it's Optimus Prime. The face of the brand is also the leader of the heroic Autobots and an iconic figure from 1980s popular culture. Throughout the many transformations that the property has had throughout its now 40-year history, Optimus Prime has remained an integral part of what makes Transformers continue to be such a recognizable and beloved series.
This stems from his abject heroism and courageous demeanor, with many regarding Optimus Prime as a robotic father figure. That's not to mention his many cool powers, gadgets and abilities, many of which are tied to the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Whether he turns into a semi-truck, a fire truck, or anything in between, Optimus Prime is always there to lend a helping hand and command the Autobots to transform and roll out.

'That Would Just Be Too Tragic': Godzilla Minus One Director Reveals How Original Ending Was Changed
While Godzilla Minus One ended on a hopeful note, that final cathartic reveal almost didn't happen.

Quick Links The Original Macross Began Multiple Franchises Robotech Was Like Macross - Until It Wasnt Are There Any Other Robotech Anime?
The Macross franchise began with the original 1982 anime series, which spawned several sequels and spinoffs. Of course, there were also numerous other brands and properties spawned by this initial series. One of these was Robotech, which continues to have a somewhat controversial nature among fans of the original.
Despite its reception among some, Robotech was still a monumental series in terms of making anime more mainstream among international viewers. It also ended up developing in a wildly different direction due to the nature of the show. Since then, both Robotech and Macross have come to something of a standstill, though one of these is much healthier as a brand than the other.

The Transformers brand is no stranger to nostalgic offerings based on Generation 1, with numerous toys and collectibles based on the original iteration of the franchise still being made today. The Super 7 brand has continued this trend with multiple action figures, with the latest of these being based on the original version of the Decepticon leader.
Recreating his design from 1984's The Transformers, Super7's Megatron figure is an excellent representation of the robot known for ripping out his enemies' optics. Along with the figure itself, the old-school packaging even homages a specific episode of the cartoon. One of multiple releases from Super 7 based on the franchise, the toy is the way to cap off 40 years of Transformers.

At this point, the return of Michael Bay to the director's chair might be the only way to save the Transformers franchise. Transformers One was recently released in theaters, revealing the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron when they were brothers known as Orion Pax and D-16. However, the new animated prequel has joined the collection of post-Bay Transformers projects that have not seen much success at the box office.
Having directed and produced the first Transformers live-action movie in 2007, Bay would go on to direct four more sequels with his final movie beingTransformers: The Last Knight in 2017. Since then, the Transformers franchise has released 2018's Bumblebee directed by Travis Knight, 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts from director Steven Caple Jr, and most recently the animated Transformers One by Josh Cooley. Each of these movies has seen lower box office numbers compared to the Bay films of the past,...

Quick Links Transformers Is Stuck Repeating G1 Beast Wars Was One Example of How to Recreate the Transformers Franchise Two Transformers Anime Showcase What the Franchise Needs the Most
The Transformers franchise has had numerous iterations in its 40 years of existence, but the most iconic of these is still the original 1980s iterations. Originally released in toys, cartoons and comics as "The Transformers," the incarnation now known as Generation 1 has defined the brand since 1984. While many fans are still nostalgic for this first version of the robots in disguise, sticking too closely to it may be doing the franchise long-term damage.
For the past decade, Transformers has largely operated as a sort of evergreen take on G1. This has meant that the same characters and concepts are constantly recycled, and it seems to have stagnated the appeal of the brand.
