Simple and nice compared to overrated HDDCS

in 1983 marked the debut of one of the finest actors off today Anil Kapoor who earlier did small roles in SHAKTI(1982)

Here he got a full fledged role and he did the best of it

The film also has Naseeruddin Shah who was known as a Art film actor mostly and Padmini Kolhapure

The film is a simple story well told

The first half has plenty of amusing moments and the ones between Anil and Chotu and also Anil and Padmini are brilliant the turn of events are well handled and the film moves to the climax minus any glitch The last scene is one of the best scene

In 1999 Sanjay Leela Bhansali made HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM which had the same story but there it was made on a larger scale with large mansions.etc But WOH SAATH DIN is much better HDDCS especially in first half lacked the conviction of this film and the love angle between Salman- Aish wasn't as nice as Anil-Padmini while even the climatic emotional scene between Salman and Aish was too melodramatic while here the last scene is not melodramatic and stands out

Direction by Bapu is brilliant Music is good

Amongst actors Anil proves he was here to stay, The actor is so natural and honest in his act that you fall in love with him Padmini is good too in her part Naseer excels in his mature role The rest are good too

        Anil Kapoor's big bang entry

        Woh 7 Din review :

Anil Kapoor's maiden success which most presume to be his debut but it's not. Anil's first Hindi film as a hero was Rachna (1983) which had Beena as his heroine. That film came and went so fast that no one took notice. A couple of months later came Woh 7 Din which was brother Boney's first production as well.

Boney and Anil went to Chennai to procure the rights of the Tamil original but when they ran out of funds, veteran actor Sanjeev Kumar and Shabana Azmi helped them. Bapu was onboarded as the director and the reluctant Padmini Kolhapure and Naseeruddin Shah were signed after much insistence by the Kapoor brothers. The movie was filmed in record time and released to an encouraging response. Anil Kapoor got his first big hit.

Padmini Kolhapure was already an established star and she was major reason for the film clicking with the audience. Her performance was not only first rate but she hasnt look more charming and beautiful ..

The plot revolved around a poor musician (Anil) who falls in love with his landord's daughter (Padmini) but she is hurriedly married off to a wealthy widower (Naseer) who gets to know about the romance from her and then tries to re-unite the two lovers.

Woh 7 Din was high on emotions with some melodious score (Laxmikant Pyarelal) thrown in. "Pyaar kiya nahi jaata ho jaata hai" was on everyone's lips that year. The film was a perfect recipe to tug the audience's hearts and later inspired Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make a glossy and bloated version of the same story called Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Even that movie turned out to be a box office hit!!

        Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

classic & mature love story of 80's bollywood

Bhanshali's much appreciated & popular blockbuster super hit 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' was totally inspired from this under rated film of 83. So I hope I need not say plot or theme of it. Film was neither gr8 nor poor but a well balanced film with refined performances of all three lead players. From the beginning of his career Anil Kapoor has shown his acting talent & here he is in one of the most memorable & lovable credulous character as Prempartap Patialawale(a struggling streetsinger Music Director). The film's first half represents his funny romantic affair with Padmini & I have never seen such a funny kissing scene in any bollywood film as funnily fixed between them on terrace. The character has verisimilitude with Sunil Dutt's golden comedy 'Padosan'. He is nicely co-operated with really praiseworthy child act of Master Raju as his assistant. Padmini Kolhapure has done most of the B genre bollywood potboilers in 80's but here she has seriously kept herself in a bubbly girl next door role & win sympathy for her act. Naseer is simply genius & he is the only mature lead character of the film & has done full justice to his role. The film projected a mature & situational love story without being too melodramatic; very rare in 80's revenge oriented films time. Director Bapu has aptly kept the first half of the film full of funny romantic situations & second half with sensitive & serious situational climax.

Really, a well made love story, worth watching once.

        Bitter Ending

        Review By Kamal K

A Bitter end... An start of bitterness... Whatever Dr Anand would try after here would prove nonsense ... Because a girl or a person's first love never died...! If it had been me in place of Prem might reached to same conclusions but then also the End proven beginning of bitter...

Entertaining enjoyable perfect sunday afternoon viewing

This Has to be one of Anil Kapoor's finer moments in bollywood. Being one of his earlier movies it is rarther quite good.. today's bollywood could learn a thing or two. The story centres around a love drama in which two lovers are torn apart and sacrifice their love for their circumstances.. Padmin Kolaphure plays the young and fiesty girl who has a thing for the new tennant living in the flat uptairs. thus follow a series of funny events as the girl attempt to attract Anil Kapoor.. A struggling Musician who hopes to make it big in bollywood. This film features some hillarious scenes and some very emotional moments. Naseer uddin shah plays the rich doctor who want to fullfill his dying mothers wish to see him married again after the loss of his wife. Thus begins the story where by Nasseer uddin shah vows to find his wife's lost love and unite them together. All in all which leads to a rarther questionable climax.. The view expressed in this film may be a bit too orthodox but the acting is brilliant and the soudtrack is excellent. A must for all to watch!
