Breaking Baz: Ben Whishaw Reunites With Director Ira Sachs To Portray 1980s Photo Artist Peter Hujar; Star Talks Oscar-Chasing Short ‘Good Boy’ & Netflix Thriller ‘Black Doves’
Image
Exclusive: Ben Whishaw will reunite with director Ira Sachs to shoot an “intimate” movie about photo artist Peter Hujar.

Until his death from AIDS in 1987, Hujar was a leading figure in the group of artists, musicians, writers, and performers at the forefront of Manhattan’s downtown cultural scene.

The untitled film follows Passages, the acclaimed picture Sachs shot in Paris with Whishaw and Franz Rogowski.

Passages has been enjoying awards season attention with Rogowski bagging the best actor prize from the New York Film Critics Circle — in fact I just saw him the other night at an event for the picture out here in Los Angeles.

Whishaw, Rogowski and the film are in contention for prizes at the Independent Spirit Awards. Whishaw’s also on the BAFTA Best Supporting actor longlist for Passages.

Mario Puzo Estate Signs With APA (Exclusive)
Image
Click here to read the full article.

It was an offer they couldn’t refuse.

APA has signed the estate of The Godfather author Mario Puzo for representation.

The agency will represent the media rights to the author’s novels with the goal of sales for motion picture and streaming minseries adaptations.

Puzo is best known for Godfather, his 1969 novel that was on the New York Times best-seller list for 67 weeks and reportedly sold 9 million copies in two years. The author gained further fame when Francis Ford Coppola adapted the book into the classic film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Paramount may own those rights, but APA is betting that in this age of insatiable hunger for stories, there will be plenty of interest in the author’s many other works.

The agency has already begun discussion with producers regarding Puzo’s as-yet-unadapted novels including: Fools Die, his first novel post-Godfather,...

‘The Command’ Review: An Examination of Negligence, Told Plainly and Mercilessly
In the summer of 2000, the Russian submarine named Kursk took on a naval exercise in the Barents Sea, the first of its kind since the fall of the Soviet Union a decade earlier. The Command (released under the title Kursk elsewhere), written by Robert Rodat and directed by Thomas Vinterberg, tells of the sub’s crew, the crew’s families and the government that failed them. Without fully spoiling this real-life event, things do not go well from those onboard the vessel.

As sub commander Mikhail (Matthias Schoenaerts) and his shipmates celebrate at their fellow soldier Pavel’s (Matthias Schweighöfer) wedding reception, the writing’s on the wall. Post-ussr Russia is floundering, wages are shrinking, and the military is energized only by principle. Speeches about duty and sacrifice underline what’s about to happen. Despite the relative modernity of this story (adapted from Robert Moore’s book A Time to Die...

The "Kursk" Submarine Disaster
Take a look at the feature "Kursk", directed by Thomas Vinterberg, based on author Robert Moore's "A Time to Die", about the true story of the 2000 'Kursk Submarine' disaster, starring Matthias Schoenaerts, Colin Firth, Léa Seydoux, Peter Simonischek, Max von Sydow, Matthias Schweighöfer and Michael Nyqvist:

"...based on the 2000 'K-141' 'Kursk' submarine disaster, with 118 sailors dying, Kursk sank during a naval exercise in the Barents Sea.

"Twenty-three sailors survived, trapped in the sub, desperately waiting for help to arrive, while their oxygen ran out minute-by-minute.

"But the government refused help for five days before agreeing to aid from the Brits and Norwegians..."

Cast also includes Martin Brambach, Guido De Craene, Geoffrey Newland, Danny Van Meenen, Kristof Coenen, Matthias Schweighöfer and Lars Brygmann.
