I'm guessing everyone has a favorite version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The story has been around for so long, and has been adapted so many times, that I imagine it's one of the best known stories in the country at this point, if not the world. I grew up watching Mickey's Christmas Carol, so that's my personal favorite, but I'd love to hear what your go-to version is in the comments.
In the meantime, though, a madman named Heath Waterman spent a year and a half editing over 400 versions of the story into one linear video, telling the story line by line with different versions for each line. And because the story is so popular, it all works — even when jumping from animation to slash fiction (yup) and cheesy TV episodes. It's really quite something, and an interesting way to lead into Christmas.

The film and TV world lost another one of its beloved greats today, in a year where the deaths of iconic stars seem more commonplace than ever. Alan Young, who played Wilbur Post on Mr. Ed and voiced the iconic Scrooge McDuck for three decades, passed away this morning at the age of 96. The actor had been living at the Motion Picture and Television Fund facility in Woodland Hills, California at the time of his passing.
Alan Young was born in North Shields, Northumberland, England in 1919, before relocating to Edinburgh and later to Vancouver, British Columbia as a small child. He suffered from asthma as a young boy, which caused him to be bedridden for much of his childhood, when he took up a strong interest in radio. He had already become an accomplished radio performer by the age of 13, and at 17 years of age, he started writing and performing...

Ice Cube will be coming *straight outta* Dickensian London when the actor/rapper/producer will star as Ebeneezer Scrooge in an upcoming remake of "A Christmas Carol." According to Deadline, Cube will be playing the lead in Universal Pictures' new adaptation of the Dickensian classic, which will see the self-centered money maker as a real estate mogul. This latest version will be directed by Tim Story. A Christmas Carol has been brought to the big screen several times over the years, with Alastair Sim's turn in Scrooge regarded as one of the best. More unique versions include "Mickey's Christmas Carol" and "The Muppet Christmas Carol," while Bill...

Ice Cube is set to play Scrooge in a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' immortal tale A Christmas Carol, only instead of being a money lender, he's a real-estate mogul. Prepare yourself for... Humbug.
Deadline reports that the project was fought over by four different studios before Universal won out, resulting in a big paycheque for the writers, Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones, and a lot of pressure on its director, Tim Story.
Universal recently made a lot of money with Ice Cube thanks to Straight Outta Compton and Ride Along, so they're not doubt hoping for a similar box office windfall this time around.
Fingers crossed for some appearances from other Nwa alumni - Dr Dre would make an excellent Ghost Of Christmas Past, while Arabian Prince could do a decent Jacob Marley.

Disney was built on their animated cartoons and films. They've entertained audiences for years, and have inspired us and sparked our imaginations. Like many of you, I've enjoyed watching these movies and shows since I was a little kid, but holy crap! There are some extremely dark and terrifying moments that could really screw a kid up! Disney did some jacked up stuff. I've come up with a list of ten scenes from these kids movies that are the things of nightmares. I should let you know that I wanted to keep this list strictly Disney, so I did not include any Pixar films. I also didn't include such traumatic scenes such as Bambi's mom and Simba's dad dying. Look over the list and let us know of any other scenes that Disney screwed you up with.

Christmas is today, and now that the heavy lifting is done -- cards mailed, presents bought and wrapped, menus arranged, even cooking done -- it's time to figure out what you will wear.
Sure, there are some among us who bought that perfect Christmas dress in June on a 90 percent discount and dieted off the 10 pounds to wear it. Then there are the rest of us, who this week are looking at sweaters and wondering if a moth hole can be disguised and whether those pants will fit if we stop eating now, or mustering courage to face the mall again.
Zap2it looks to TV and movie characters and take some fashion tips for Christmas. What, say you, you don't want sartorial advice from a rodent or skeleton? Animated characters never have to suck in their guts, true, but many of them embody the perfect clothes for the perfect night.

Moviefone's DVD of the Week:
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"
What's It About? The first installment of Peter Jackson's three-part adaptation of the beloved J.R.R. Tolken novel, "The Hobbit," follows an epic quest to retain a treasure. Martin Freeman stars as the titular Bilbo Baggins hobbit (the younger version of Ian Holm's Bilbo), who travels with a pack of dwarves to reclaim their stolen treasure from the vicious dragon Smaug.
Why We're In: While Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey" is in no way as grand or as incredible as his "Lord of the Rings" films, it is still a fun and worthy visualization of the book.
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week:
"James Dean: The Ultimate Collector's Edition"
What's It About? This collection features the three films that spanned the iconic actor's short career. In Elia Kazan's 1955 "East of Eden," Dean plays Cal,...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Extended Edition) A lot of Hobbit related content lately what with the three-minute trailer and eight new posters for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and now the extended edition of the first film which features 13 additional minutes, bringing the grand total to 182 minutes. Personally, I'm not interested, but if you are, Slashfilm has done a write up on the additional footage.

Although Walt Disney voiced the legendary Mickey Mouse in the beginning of his screen career, the iconic rodent's high-pitched timbre is also owed to other voice actors. As the studio became a smashing success — and Walt's smoking habit put a strain on his vocal chords — he said goodbye to his voice acting days (for the most part, anyway). In 1947, British voice actor and head of Disney's sound effects department Jimmy MacDonald took over the mic until 1977. Then his sound effects co-worker Wayne Allwine took over. Allwine's first film "appearance" for the studio was Mickey's Christmas Carol. The squeaky protégé was given some important advice by MacDonald: "The main piece of...

The more I think about horror and explore the genre more thoroughly, the more I really realize I've always been a big horror fan whether I knew it way back when or not. I'm one of probably a jillion people who make it a point to reread A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens every year at holiday time (and watch several different versions of the film production). However, this year might be the first I gave it much thought as a potential horror film. I know a lot of people would argue with me there, but really. This story (along with many others from the Victorian and pre-Victorian eras) has several strong elements of horror about it. I'm a bit surprised that I never considered the matter in more depth before, especially since the cast of characters is riddled with ghosts.
However, I'm thinking my missing it for so long...

Isn't it strange that Mickey Mouse has never really had his own animated feature? We don't call it the Mouse House for nothing. Mickey's the king of the Disney cartoon characters, yet he's still only been the star of shorts. Goofy and Uncle Scrooge have had their own long-form theatrical endeavors, so why not the little guy we most associate with the studio? Well, there's a chance of him finally being honored with a feature-length movie, if Disney bites.
Longtime Disney animator Burny Mattinson, who received an Oscar nomination for directing 1984's 'Mickey's Christmas Carol' (which I always thought of as a full movie when I was a kid -- but it's only 24 minutes), told Bleeding Cool that he wants his follow-up to working on the upcoming 'Winnie the Pooh' to be a feature film starring Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy. Top Ten Christmas Films
I've been running this website for almost eight years now and have never done a Top Ten Christmas Films list so I figured I may as well finally remedy the situation. This means today I offer up my ten favorite Christmas films and while I'm sure this list will have many of the usual suspects from any number of similar lists found on the Internet, I hope there is one or two that spice it up and make it worth reading.
After you get done with my list I'd love to hear your thoughts as well as your top ten, or simply those films you and your family gather around the television to watch over the holidays. Let's get to it...

Beloved author Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale, A Christmas Carol, is perhaps the greatest Christmas story ever to be crafted. It has been adapted countless times in a myriad of different fashions and styles, and one would find it very difficult to find any single soul who's not familiar with at least one of them.
Favorite adaptations include the 1951 film of the same name starring Alastair Sim, Scrooged starring Bill Murray, and my own personal favorite, Mickey's Christmas Carol! Just recently, director Robert Zemeckis kept things going with a performance capture animated take on the tale starring Jim Carrey in the lead role of Ebenezer Scrooge.
But adaptations of Dickens' work aren't restricted to just movies and specials. No, no -- it goes far beyond that. Plenty of TV shows and theater productions have formed their own takes as well, and one that is catching much attention and many...

#Gift It seems almost pointless reviewing Disney's classic reissues on Blu-ray because the films themselves are familiar and the Hi-Def restoration work is guaranteed to impress. The personnel behind the HD remastering of releases of classic animated films from the Disney vault have established a standard of excellence that they are sure to meet with every new release. It is intriguing to think that movies such as Fantasia and the previously released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs probably look better now than they ever have before. Today's audiences have the privilege of seeing them looking more pristine and sounding clearer than audiences contemporary with their original release could have imagined possible.
Given the superlatives above, it goes without saying that both Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 look fabulous. This can be expected from the latter because it was made relatively recently. The restoration work on Fantasia is all the more...

When I was growing up, animated Christmas specials were an essential family tradition. Over several years, my brother and I had filled a Betamax tape with our favorites (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Mickey's Christmas Carol, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, etc.), and as soon as the Thanksgiving turkey was finished, we simply wore it out. (To be completely honest, I couldn't swear that the tape didn't get some play on a few rainy days in July, too.) As an adult, my affection for Christmas comfort-tv is as strong as ever, and in recent years,...

Now available on DVD, Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse has managed to become a favorite since it first hit the scene almost ten years ago. I'm actually a tough sell when it comes to animated holiday efforts (my plate is full), but this one is a great combination of stories, and it's put together in a way that's great fun for the kids. Mine, for example, are huge fans of all the moments that come between the main courses. Tis the season at the House of Mouse, and a huge crew of Disney characters find themselves snowed in. To take everyone's mind off their predicament, Mickey and Minnie play some "home movies." The featured treats are: Donald on Ice, Pluto and the Christmas Tree, The Nutcracker, and Mickey's Christmas Carol. All of them solid efforts, but the last two are the real stars.

Monsters vs. Aliens
Monsters, aliens, superheroes -- it's the sort of fare that's perfect for animation. For the most part, critics and fans seem to agree, although our Scott Weinberg says the film "is Not one of those transcendent animated features, the sort that bridges the gap between kid stuff and grown-up art with no discernible effort whatsoever. No, Monsters vs. Aliens is a loud, rushed, choppy, silly, colorful Nintendo game of a movie.
