When writer of the original novel S.E. Hinton met Matt Dillon (Tex) for the first time, he said in his thick New York accent, "Yo, S.E., I thought you was a man!" Hinton recalls initially being nervous about a city kid playing the character of a country cowboy. Now, Hinton states that she believes this was one of Dillon's best performances. Dillon went on to star in two more film adaptions of Hinton's novels, Outsiders (1983) and Rusty James (1983).

Goofs
When Tex and Mason run the truck into the ditch with the hitch hiker the passenger side window that should be up is down, then up, then down again. When the driver's side window is shot out by the police, you can see a second pane of glass with a bullet hole behind the shattered glass.

Charming

Matt Dillon shines in the role he was made for-a troubled teen. Though not as effective as The Outsiders, Tex has a special charm all its own. Matt Dillon's excellent acting and the moving storyline bring the tale to life. Charming.
