I'll admit there is a lot of cheesey stuff in this movie. But how can you not like it? I like it as much as I did when I first saw it back in the '80s. Movies are for entertianment value, being over cricitcal and not just enjoying it for what it is, is a shame. This movie offers you cool stunts, comedy, in general good fun. So what if the missiles don't hit their intended targets? Or the fact that they fit all of those buggies, motorcycles on 2 C-130s? Heck half the movies today don't get it right 90% of the time. I just hope it will come out on DVD some day.
Yes, the film is cheesy ! No, the script isn't any good ! Yes, the acting is over the top and the storytelling methodology is silly and the special effects aren't quite special ! That was the point. The actors were playing the film for fun, they did so because they were in on the joke ( ie. they knew film was a comedy to begin with ), and THAT is why this film is fun to watch - because the cast knew this film was made basically to give audiences something to laugh with ( and at ) & it succeeds brilliantly at this precisely intended goal.
This movie is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I was an 11 tomboy when it came out and lapped it up. The story's cheesy, the acting way over the top and Introvision left a lot to be desired as an effect process, but still it was fun. Barry Bostwick was a hottie in this film, which is not how I'd usually describe him. Although I had more of a crush on Michael Beck as Dallas. Even as an adult, I still enjoy the heck out of it as whey filled as it is. This is one film that I'm waiting with baited breath to come out on DVD, hopefully in widescreen so I can enjoy it on my 60" widescreen. Megaforce, in my opinion, followed by The Pirate Movie and The Ice Pirates would be the greatest 80's Cheese Ball movie festival ever.
Ok, I will admit the special effects are cheesy and the acting really isn't that great. However this movie has some good qualities I have come to love in action movies. A hero who's hair stays in place no matter what hell he's been through. An absent minded genius who makes neat toys. And how can we leave out the beautiful woman who catches our hero's eye?
This movie does have some nice things. I liked the dune buggies and motorcycles that change color to match the terrain. I liked that the hero, Ace, was best friends with the villain. I liked the crazy character played by Michael Beck, especially the goofy thing he did with the holographic mission planner. This movie has some high tech things that militaries use today. Including the dune buggies. They're used by Special Forces and Navy SEALs. The room where conversations are monitored is like today's Echelon Dictionary Project. This movie has some good things that foretell future military advancements. Not to mention that this movie is meant for kids and shouldn't be seen as an adult movie. There isn't any profanity in it and it's funny.
I must not be the only one who liked this movie back then. I remember all the lunch boxes and action figures this movie sold. People who say this movie are bad must not have seen it when they were kids.

It has bad acting, bad stunts, bad sets and I love it. This is right up there with Rocky Horror Picture Show and Plan Nine from Outer Space. I have probably watched this 20 times. The only redeeming value is the line: "Life is a wheel, what goes around comes around." Words to live by.
