After the film's success, producer Ng See Yuen had a huge dispute with the Taiwanese producers regarding with hiring Conan Lee to their pictures which led to misleading where producers thought Ng refused to let them hire Lee. This ended up led the Taiwanese producers to hire a Taiwanese triad members to severely injure and black mailing Ng. Ng See Yuen decided to let Conan Lee off from the contract.
The stilt-walking actors at the festival portray the Ba Xian, the mythological Eight Immortals: Li T'ieh-kuai ('iron-crutch Li'); Chungli Ch'uan (the war man with the fan); feminine Lan Ts'ai-ho (patron of florists); old man Chang Kuo-lao; Ho Hsien-ku (the only true woman; also depicted with flowers or peaches); Lu Tung-pin the sword-wielding scholar; Han Hsiang-tzu the flute player; and Ts'ao Kuo-ch'iu, patron of actors.
Although Hiroyuki Sanada was a personal fan of Hwang Jang Lee, on the actual set he was too scared to approach due to Hwang's long known strong imagery and presence as a villain role for most of his films.
When Chee nearly falls off the temple pagoda on his falling line, a melody is brought in which was used in 'Raiders of The Lost Ark'.
The 'torpedo-digging' trick Jen Moo uses in the final fight is a standard trick of all Hong Kong ninja movies made in the 80's.
