"The Last of Us" is not only a fantastic adaptation of a video game, but it's also a terrific TV show in its own right. It puts a unique spin on the zombie genre by making its world-ending virus a fungal infection rather than reanimated corpses. This, in turn, makes its Infected all the more terrifying since they're part of a single fungal life cycle.
Indeed, even though there are many similarities between the tones and worlds of "The Last of Us" and, say, "The Walking Dead" or "28 Days Later," the former stands out because of the Cordyceps fungal apocalypse. It informs the world of the show, as the Infected do actually die on their own after a long enough time. Still, as any zombie fan knows, what makes the genre interesting are the living people that fight the undead — and each other.

The Oscars may be in the rearview mirror, but seven of this year's Academy Award acting nominees could find themselves competing once again ... at the 2025 Emmys.
Mikey Madison and Zoe Saldaña, the respective Oscar winners for Anora (Best Actress) and Emilia Pérez (Best Supporting Actress), will be seeking Emmy nominations this year for vastly different TV projects. Madison will submit for the 50-year-old sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live and the limited series Lady in the Lake, while Saldaña will be eligible for Season 2 of the spy thriller Lioness.
Speaking of SNL, Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande are two other recent Oscar nominees who also hosted the program this season. Chalamet earned an Oscar nod for his portrayal of music superstar Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Grande made magic happen in Wicked as Glinda the Good Witch.
See Which categories could ‘Snow White’ seriously compete in at the Oscars?...

The next Creepypasta tale to make the leap to the screen is The Third Parent, with Deadline reporting today that Crispin Glover will be starring alongside Rob Lowe in the film.
Crispin Glover will play villain Tommy Taffy, with Roselyn Sanchez also on board to star in The Third Parent.
Bleecker Street has acquired North American distribution rights, with a nationwide theatrical release planned. The Third Parent takes place amidst a Fourth of July celebration when a disturbing figure named Tommy Taffy emerges, disguising himself as a human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood and impose authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family.
The original Creepypasta is the work of writer Elias Witherow.

Half a century on from the sublimely ridiculous Tommy, the passionate abandon that distinguished Russell’s films – from composer biopics to the infamous The Devils, among other bonkers oddities – is needed now more than ever
This month marks the 50th anniversary of the release of one of the most important and groundbreaking pop movies of all time: Ken Russell’s psychedelic screen adaptation of the Who’s rock opera Tommy (1975). Marketed with the eye-catching tag lines “Your senses will never be the same” and “He will tear your soul apart”, the film starred Roger Daltrey as the traumatised kid who becomes a Pinball Wizard and (more importantly) a cult messiah.
Blending themes to which Russell would return throughout his career (the transformative power of music; the alchemical madness of genius; the dark power of false religion), Tommy was a typically wild ride that swung between the sublime and the ridiculous.

With 100% Score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Who’s Examination of ‘60s British Teen Angst is a Must-Watch
It is hard to overstate the significant popular culture influence that The Who had during the height of their popularity, as the British rock band introduced new electronic techniques and subversive song structures that changed the genre forever. The Who were always linked heavily with the world of filmmaking, and not just because their performances felt inherently cinematic; in addition to appearing in the legendary documentary The Kids Are Alright, the band also contributed the soundtrack for the cult rock musical Tommy.

David Edward Byrd, who created psychedelic posters for Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Grateful Dead shows and for such Broadway productions as Follies, Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar and Little Shop of Horrors, has died. He was 83.
Byrd died Monday at a hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, rep Jerry Digney announced. Jolino Beserra, his partner of 40 years, said on Facebook that he died of pneumonia.
One of the foremost graphic artists of 20th century pop culture, Byrd did lots of work for rock promoter Bill Graham’s Fillmore East, which opened in the East Village in Manhattan in 1968, and designed a poster for the original Woodstock festival (it turned out it wasn’t used when the event was moved).

Contemporary costume design is always a tricky prospect; we all have opinions about clothes we see regularly. But Emma Potter’s work on “Landman” came with an even higher degree of difficulty: She has to recreate the look of a Texan who spends his days in oil fields.
There’s a fine line between accuracy and caricature, but Potter’s clothes err on the right side. Sometimes to the possible chagrin of the actors, because co-creator Taylor Sheridan was adamant that the costumes be true to what the men on the patch wear. Even if that meant no respite from the West Texas sun.
”It was actually a conversation point with Taylor that everybody needs to feel what it would feel like to be there,” Potter told IndieWire. “So we were doing essentially what guys out in the field would be doing. Like, they were wearing a straw hat and a thin,...

I guess the brief scene in Landman season 1’s ending just confirmed that [Spoiler Alert] Monty Miller is finally dead. At the beginning of the episode, the doctors had put him on life support after open-heart surgery. The first 24 hours were extremely critical, and it seemed like Monty didn’t make it. The Ecg machine showed him flatlining, which means the Coyote is now dead. Tommy, as the new president of M-Tex Oil and the Miller family estate, has some pretty big shoes to fill in. He needs to facilitate the sale of Monty’s company and split the proceeds between a foundation run by Cami and a family trust where Tommy will serve as executor. And that’s two colossal tasks at hand that Tommy will have to accomplish in the next season. With that said, let’s take a look at everything that went down in the Landman season 1 finale...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Landman season 1, episode 9!Following last week's explosive ending, Landman episode 9 touches on every member of the Norris family, laying the groundwork for endings and beginnings in the upcoming season finale. Each storyline delivered important information that set the stage for the final episode, with the cast of Landman putting on some of their most memorable performances to date. However, the penultimate episode's foundations shook as it lacked the focus of the last few. While this dampened some elements, it also built anticipation for next week's curtain call.

What started with the Texas-based Dutton family in Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western drama Yellowstone has evolved into a sprawling franchise, including spin-offs like 1883, 1923, and more on the horizon. And while the masses have embraced the shows for their captivating storylines and characters, one of the series’ stars initially questioned whether she was the right fit for her role.

Taylor Sheridan is no stranger to stirring the pot, but his Landman episode 7 might just be his most controversial yet. In this one, a female character shows up, and fans aren’t holding back their opinions. They’ve blasted her as a walking disaster, writing her like she’s straight out of a time before Wi-Fi or common sense.

Taylor Sheridan has been objectively creating some of the most dubious female on-screen characters since his television debut with Yellowstone. The latest representation of debauchery, duplicity, and decadence can be found in Landman – a series about the oil industry, powerful tycoons, skilled fixers, and other morally unhinged characters all around.

Amid the questionable series of events that make up Landman, Ali Larter’s arc as Angela, the ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris, stands out the most. For the audience, her character rests on completely opposite ends of the spectrum – either loved or hated completely depending on who you ask.
But at the end of the day, Ali Larter’s Angela stands out as a genius character.

Someone was watching Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) at the patch party in Landman episode 7, but the show didn't explicitly show who it was or what it meant for the future of the series. There are several different storylines that tie the cast of Landman to one another, and the various parts of the oil industry and Tommy's personal life often overlap. Landman episode 7 has started yet another crossover between Tommy's professional and personal lives through the man who was watching him at the patch party, and it could easily be the most deadly yet.
Towards the end of Landman episode 7, Tommy had to find Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) at the patch party she went to. When he arrived, he had to pull her new love interest, Ryder (Mitchell Slaggert), off her, and he gave the quarterback a beating and a stern talking to. As he left, however, Landman revealed that...

Tommy spared Manuel's life in Landman episode 6, and there are important reasons why. Landman episode 5 saw Manuel, Antonio, and their other pals jump Cooper in his trailer, leaving the episode on a cliffhanger. Cooper, who'd been helping Ariana with tasks around the house following the death of her husband, refused to stay away from her after warnings. Luckily, the subsequent episode revealed Cooper to be alive, and Landman's episode 6 ending saw Tommy going after Manuel as revenge.
Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris in Landman's cast, and if the show's first six episodes have demonstrated anything, it's that he's not going to back down to anyone. No matter how tough Manuel seemed, Tommy is tougher, and he brought his friends along with Sheriff Joeberg to give his son's assailants a beating before arresting them. Tommy makes his threats loud and clear, though it may have come as...

Colin Chilvers, a pioneering, Oscar-winning Hollywood visual effects artist who created movie magic for Superman, apocalyptic scenarios and even The Who’s Tommy, died November 19 in Fort Erie, Ontario, where he lived. He was 79.
His death was first reported Wednesday by the news station 101.1 FM in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Among Chilvers’ more memorable feats were the effects that gave Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder the illusion of flying in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic Superman, work that had him share in a team Oscar for Visual Effects.
In 1986, Chilvers created the dazzling trickery that allowed Michael Jackson to defy gravity by leaning forward 45 degrees with no visible means of support in the music video for “Smooth Criminal.” Chilvers directed the video, along with various other Jackson video collections.
Chilvers’ post-Superman credits from the ’80s through the 2000s also included Superman 2 and Superman 3, Bride of Chucky, X-Men and K-19: The Widowmaker.

Hollywood visual effects pioneer Colin Chilvers, who earned a Special Achievement Academy Award in 1979 for making Christopher Reeves as Superman fly, has died. He was 79.
Chilvers died Tuesday in Fort Erie, Ontario, according to his nephew, Chris Corbould, whose own VFX credits include Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and James Bond franchise movies like No Time to Die and Spectre.

Landman is the latest Western series from creator Taylor Sheridan, and it's already received numerous comparisons to Yellowstone. Since the original Kevin Costner-led Paramount Network Western premiered in 2018, Taylor Sheridan has become one of television's most coveted and famous writers/producers. He's developed spinoffs for Yellowstone that follow earlier periods of the Dutton family, crime shows like Tulsa King, and an action series called Lioness, all for Paramount+, but with Yellowstone set to end after season 5, part 2, the search for a replacement is crucial.
Any of the planned Yellowstone spinoffs could be excellent. The Madison will star Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox, and more, which sounds like the makings of a terrifically exciting follow-up. However, with Kevin Costner gone from Yellowstone's final stretch of episodes, the franchise's future is currently being tested on whether it can prosper in the same manner without him. Meanwhile, Sheridan's latest series, Landman,...

Every season of Power Rangers is largely composed of explosive fight scenes. This has been the case since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which features some of the most iconic fights in the series. Naturally, many of these battles feature Tommy Oliver as either the Green or White Ranger, but he doesn't hog all the action.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers became a '90s classic thanks to its unforgettable fights. Blending together original footage with footage from three different seasons of Super Sentai, Mighty Morphin features an equal balance of Morphed fights, unmorphed fights, and Megazord fights. Some of them possess especially impressive choreography and direction, while others are special because of the drama surrounding them.
Trini vs. Mantis Was One of the Only Fights to Highlight the Original Yellow Ranger

9-1-1 Tommy actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. has given his thoughts on Buck and Tommy's breakup. Ferrigno Jr. joined the cast in season 2, before leaving the show for several years and returning for seasons 7 and 8. Tommy had a strong evolution on the show, returning as a proud and happy gay man, after finally learning to accept who he is, and not try to live a lie, before entering into a much-loved relationship with Buck. In season 8, episode 6, however, the couple unexpectedly split after Buck discovers that Tommy used to be engaged to Abby for two years.
In an interview with Fangirlish, Ferrigno Jr. explained the breakup and reflected on his character. He pictured that Tommy was a damaged person and didn't believe the relationship would last since it wasn't mature enough. He also acknowledged Tommy's flaws and that he probably already blames himself, especially given the Abby reveal. Check out...

Well, it’s been a while since the writers have given us quite so much in one episode, but Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 6 proved that they’ve still got it.
For a while, it’s felt as if the show wanted to play it safe, opting for easily resolved storylines with happy endings.
All that went down the drain with this latest installment, and as happy as I am about the drama of it all, it means we need to prepare for some heartbreak.

Tonight marked an exciting cast change as Sophia Bush made her first appearance as Dr. Cass Beckman, a trauma surgeon who works at Seattle Presbyterian.
The episode opens with an awkward date night between Teddy and Owen, who recently decided to make more of an effort to repair their marriage.

Confessions have a way of bubbling out of you when you least expect it sometimes, something 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 6 highlighted throughout an overly busy hour.
We may be a third of the way into the season, but we’re just getting started in many ways because this was the first hour that really explored the personal lives of Maddie, Chimney, Buck, and Eddie.
To say the results will be the source of A Lot of debate would be putting it very, very mildly.
(Disney/Mike Taing)
The decision over the past two seasons to start with a three-part opening emergency has meant that the action has been at the forefront, alongside some good character work for Bobby and Athena, who are the captains of this ship.
And while subsequent hours dove into Hen and Karen’s family, there wasn’t any movement on Eddie’s residual storyline from last season.

While the popular crime series may be over, there are a number of memorable Peaky Blinders quotes that will stay with fans forever. For six seasons, Peaky Blinders offered a gritty and thrilling period saga looking at the Shelby crime family and its infamous gang. While the show was filled with violence and brutality, it was often the dialogue that stole the show. Steven Knight's scripts never shy away from quick, sassy banter and cinematic lines among its characters, whether it be Thomas Shelby's brooding musings, Alfie's wild outbursts, or Aunt Polly's fiery comebacks.
Peaky Blinders came to an end in 2022, and while there is some hope for the story's continuation, the show left plenty of great moments that the fans can look back on, including the endless lines that remain quotable years later. From the epic monologues to the thoughtful observations to the rare moments of humor,...

In the mid-1970s, there was a brief trend going on in the film world: the rock opera movie musical. These were films that had a considerable edge to them, that were attempting to tap into the counter culture generation. In 1975 alone, you had both Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Who’s Tommy come out. But even before that, in 1974, Brian De Palma – who was a mere two years away from the game changer that was Carrie – unleashed his rock opera epic into theaters, Phantom of the Paradise.
Phantom follows a composer named Winslow who wrote a cantata about Faust – a story in which someone sells their soul to the devil. In the case of life imitating art, his opus is stolen by a powerful mogul named Swan, leading Winslow to haunt the newly opened Paradise Theater as a Phantom. The film successfully blends the 70’s rock and roll with horror,...

Agatha All Along has continued to make changes to stories audiences thought they knew in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the most recent change concerns the responsibility for Scarlet Witch's death. While Scarlet Witch's status in the MCU has been made abundantly clear, details of the character continue to impact the universe. With Agatha All Along episode 6 explaining what happened to Scarlet Witch's sons, important context is provided for understanding Wanda's heel-turn that took place in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Following rumors that have swirled since the series began, Agatha All Along has re-introduced Billy Maximoff, leading to questions about where his brother Tommy could be. Wanda Maximoff's family from WandaVision seems to be at the center of many of the new series' events, and it appears that the program intends to provide a great deal of additional context to WandaVision. Warning! This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along episode 6.
After Agatha All Along episode 6, Im more angry than ever about the Scarlet Witchs Multiversal killing spree. The ending of WandaVision set up Wandas villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and I was personally excited to see how this would be handled. Although I like Doctor Strange 2 a fair amount and think Wanda was a compelling antagonist, I found there to be some aspects that could have been explored more thoroughly, namely how Wanda was corrupted by the Darkhold, thus explaining how she was suddenly okay with committing multiversal mass murder.
After Agatha All Along episode 6s ending, however, I have found myself looking back more negatively on Scarlet Witchs turn. While the reason for this is versed in solid storytelling based on Joe Lockes Marvel character of Billy Maximoff, I cannot help but be disappointed...

Being in the movie industry comes with a risk of being overthrown by other actors who star in bigger projects, and there is a slight fear that Chris Evans might be wasting his potential on films that barely help him showcase what he’s capable of. Evans, who turned 43 earlier this year hasn’t had too many of his recent movies get much recognition, specifically, the ones done outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Broadway will honor the late actor Adrian Bailey, who died September 22 at the age of 67 following an at-home fall, by dimming the marquee lights of one theater from every theater owner on October 17.
“Over the years, Mr. Bailey has served as an inspiration not only due to his talented performances on Broadway and Touring Broadway stages, but also through his perseverance, positive attitude, and indomitable spirit,” said Jason Laks, Interim President of The Broadway League. “The outpouring of love from our community is a testament to that spirit. In losing Adrian Bailey, we have truly lost a bright light both on and off Broadway, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who loved him best.”

Korins, who has worked on the Academy Awards, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Here Lies Love,” “The Who’s Tommy” and more, was invited by the museum’s executive director William Russo to showcase his work.
“I said, I wanted to drill down deeper and look at five projects,” Korins tells Variety. “In looking at five projects, people will be able to see how they all look very different, and the outcome is very different, but they’ll be able to see similarities in the collaborative spirit and how people come together to make pieces.

Lauryn Hill was announced Wednesday as one of the lead singers on Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s new concept album of The Warriors.
As for whether the concept album, which also features Busta Rhymes, Rza, Ghostface Killah, Colman Domingo and more alongside an all-female gang, will become the Hamilton creator’s next full-length stage show, Miranda said it will depend on the reception.
“The plan is just to release it and see how people respond,” Miranda said at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in Manhattan Wednesday. He added that the project did not have a director or producers yet attached.
The album, due to be released Oct. 18, musicalizes the 1979 film that follows a street gang making their way from the Bronx to their home in Coney Island and encountering other gangs en route.
Miranda was initially presented with the idea in 2009, after writing In the Heights, but did not...
