Grammy Nominations: Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo Score; Jon Batiste Leads All With 11
Image
Nominees for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards were announced Tuesday and they include Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo. Top honors went out to Jon Baptiste who earned a total of 11 nominations.

The reveal by the Recording Academy came as the organization expanded the lists of nominees to 10 in marquee categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

Among the nominees, Eilish returns with seven nominees — the same number she swept wins for in 2020. Batiste, who is known for his role on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, scored the most noms today after coming off an Oscar Score win earlier this year for Soul alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

The Grammys return to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena (fka Staples Center) on January 31, 2022, and will broadcast live on CBS and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ at 8-11:30 p.

Drake dominates Billboard 200 with ‘Certified Lover Boy,’ knocking Kanye West down to number-two
Image
After months of delay, Drake‘s sixth studio album “Certified Lover Boy” was released on September 3, and unsurprisingly it has debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200 with the most successful week for any album since Taylor Swift‘s “Folklore” last summer. That pushes last week’s top album, Kanye West‘s “Donda,” down to second place.

SEE2021 VMA winners list: MTV Video Music Awards winners in all categories

“Certified Lover Boy” launched with a remarkable 613,000 equivalent album units, which are calculated by combining album sales, individual track sales, and online streams through platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Hip-hop artists in general — and Drake in particular — tend to accumulate their units primarily through streaming, and “Lover Boy” is no exception. In fact, the collection’s 562,000 streaming units (based on more than 743 million streams) would have been more than enough on their own to make this the biggest album of the...

Drake Smashes 2021 Records With ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Debut
Image
A week after Kanye West set a new high-water mark for the biggest album debut of 2021 on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart with Donda, Drake obliterated that record with Certified Lover Boy. West launched with 313,000 album-equivalent units. Drake earned close to double that total, more than 595,000 album-equivalent units, even though Certified Lover Boy had fewer songs than Donda.

The bulk of Drake’s first-week total came from streaming services: The 21 tracks on Certified Lover Boy collectively picked up more than 680 million plays. In addition, Drake’s set sold more...

Meet Phum Viphurit, Thailand’s First Indie-Pop Star
Mac DeMarco
Last summer, when Mac DeMarco played a show in Bangkok, Thai singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit got to meet one of his musical heroes. “I kind of knew the promoters of the concert and got to sneak backstage,” Viphurit tells Rolling Stone. “I got to give him a really decent hug and a big handshake and said, ‘Hey, man, you inspire me to be myself and not be so afraid of expressing the way I feel.’”

The interaction with DeMarco wasn’t the first time Viphurit, a 23-year-old self-proclaimed “big music geek,...
