Carol Cole, who plays Grady's daughter in the show is the adopted daughter of Nat 'King' Cole.

The first Bud Yorkin-produced show after he ended his partnership with Norman Lear.

This was the first of three Sanford and Son (1972) spin-off/sequel series, followed by Sanford Arms (1977) and Sanford (1980). Only Sanford (1980) made it to a second season and none of them lasted longer than 30 episodes.

Demond Wilson was the only main character from Sanford and Son (1972) not to appear in the series.

The main setting of the series was Westwood, a commercial and residential neighborhood in the northern central portion of the Westside region of Los Angeles. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is located there.
