When it comes to influential modern horror filmmakers, Ti West is usually towards the top of genre fans’ favorite directors list. That's because of his recent X trilogy that was composed of the Mia Goth-starring X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. However, West has been a creative visionary for over the last two decades. With that, one of his lesser-known cult classics is finally coming to 4K.
The Innkeepers is coming to the premium format in a stunningly haunted 4K box set from Second Sight Films. This 2011 ghost story features brand-new artwork by Nick Charge of star Sara Paxton (Return to Halloweentown) investigating a spooky hotel. However, there's a ghost ready to make her night a living hell. The blue color tones that match the film’s original marketing palette also make this cover pop with eerie delight. This edition comes with a new 4K transfer approved by West alongside a handful of new special features.

If you've ever watched an episode of Amazon Prime Video's "Reacher" and wondered what its hulking hero would look like with frosted tips and a preppy polo shirt, there's a movie out there for you. It's called "The Butcher," and the 2006 low-budget slasher marked "Reache" star Alan Ritchson's first on-screen role in a film that wasn't made for television.
"The Butcher" arrived over 15 years before the model-turned-actor became known for his lovable buff guy turn in the popular adaptation of Lee Childs' action-thriller novels, and you can tell it's a product of the aughts from a mile away. Everyone is dressed like a character from "The O.C.," and in an early scene, Ritchson's Mark cracks jokes about unauthorized sex tapes and tries to film his two female friends getting frisky on his flip phone ... while driving.
In terms of its premise, "The Butcher" seems to follow the well-trodden path...

In 1974, director Tobe Hooper unleashed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre onto an unsuspecting public, and it forever changed the horror genre. Blasted by critics at the time for being nothing more than what we now call torture porn, the film has gone on to become a revered classic that was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2024. Now, a new documentary titled Chain Reactions promises to change the way you watch one of the most infamous horror movies ever made.
Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the likes of 78/52, Memory: The Origins of Alien, and The People vs. George Lucas, Chain Reactions brings together five creatives to offer their perspectives on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and how it impacted their lives. Documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe takes a unique approach with his upcoming documentary Chain Reactions, enlisting five celebrated artists to explore the impact of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
As Alex Divincenzo explained in a recent festival review, “Each subject is given about 20 minutes to wax poetic about the film. Stephen King candidly discusses the film’s craft, the horror genre, and morality in art. Patton Oswalt discusses the movie and its relation to other works with equal passion and eloquence. Takashi Miike details how a formative viewing of the film impacted his later work. Film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas provides an analysis from the perspective of a girl in Australia. Director Karyn Kusama examines the role of beauty in art.”
The goal? In Philippe’s words, to “forever change the way you watch or think about the film.”

In the early 1990s, the hangout sitcom exploded in popularity as Americans collectively agreed that watching attractive, witty 20-somethings whine about their daily frustrations while loitering in their friends' kitchens or sharing a cup of coffee at the local spot was the best way to decompress after a long day. Shows like "Living Single," "Seinfeld," and "Friends" weren't workplace comedies, dramatic procedurals, or focused on the family; they were shows about people hanging out and proved that relatable, observational humor could be found in mundane situations like moving a couch up an apartment building stairwell or trying to find a car in a parking garage.
The style gained momentum in the 1980s, thanks to the success of "Cheers," but it was "Friends" that truly broke the mold as increasingly disillusioned Gen Xers entered adulthood, coinciding with TV networks' desperate search for "watch with dinner" programming. If sitcoms were slashers, "Cheers...

Taylor Sheridan is best known for creating a slew of original programming for Paramount. However, that doesn't mean that the Yellowstone creator isn't interested in getting his hands on some iconic IP.
According to Deadline, Sheridan is reportedly interested in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre property. However, he'll have some hefty competition for the rights to the Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel-created horror franchise, which includes film, TV, live events, and games, as around half a dozen studios and/or streamers are also vying for the property. Verve, the company holding the rights to the IP since 2017, is behind the forthcoming bidding war, which will begin Monday, June 9. At this time, Sheridan, who was raised in Texas, would only serve as a producer on a future Texas Chainsaw Massacre project.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre could be getting a full reboot, and a new report reveals that Taylor Sheridan and Jordan Peele are in the mix to take over. Released in 1974, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre hailed from director Tobe Hooper and introduced Leatherface, a villain that has now become one of the most iconic in the horror genre. The success of the low-budget movie birthed a franchise that now consists of nine installments in total, the most recent of which, 2022's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was released directly to Netflix, earning poor reviews.
A new report from Deadline reveals that a new take on Texas Chainsaw Massacre could be on the way. Bidding will open on Monday for the rights to the franchise, with between five and eight studios/ streamers competing. Verve, the company that has repped the rights to the franchise since 2017, is overseeing the bidding. According to the report,...

Dan Da Dan returns for an even more satisfying spectacle of supernatural and occult shenanigans as Jiji experiences a monstrous metamorphosis.
There’s an exciting, electric feeling whenever a series concludes a near-flawless freshman season that can quickly turn to dread when the prospect of topping that next year is considered. Dan Da Dan was far and away 2024’s pop culture juggernaut, thanks to its effortless mix of horror, science fiction, and coming of age rom-com bliss. There’s an inherent challenge to sequels — or second seasons — which is why there are so many properties that start out strong, but ultimately leak quality over time. Dan Da Dan avoids these expected pitfalls and delivers something that must be seen to be believed — just like some urban legend cryptid.

Good news, horror hounds: we're in the midst of a full-blown slasher renaissance. The subgenre dominated horror in the 1980s, buoyed by '70s classics like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," "Halloween," and "Black Christmas." By 1996, when "Scream" was released, everyone knew all the tropes, and the idea of a killer coming back to hunt down a bunch of screaming teenagers no longer seemed as novel.
Nowadays, there's Art the Clown. There's no denying that the "Terrifier" killer is the most iconic new slasher villain of this decade, but those films often amount to little more than showcases for director Damien Leone's squelchy gore effects. Despite what Leone said in 2025, horror is indeed political. There was a conservative backlash to all that gory mayhem in the 1980s, even though slashers could be thought of as quite conservative, with the villains often punishing people who had sex. There were also...

Fittingly, art imitates life as the doc mirrors the spirit of Cannibal Comedian — the story of a psychopathic cannibal who is fed up with his lack of ambition and takes a stab at stand-up comedy in an attempt...

If you've enjoyed running from Leatherface (or playing as him) in the tense multiplayer survival horror game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre developed by Sumo Nottingham and later Black Tower Studios, you might be saddened to learn that after the next update, there won't be any new content coming to the game.
On May 13, game publisher Gun Interactive shared a post confirming that the game will not receive any further support or content, specifically there will not be anymore "Dlc, balance updates, or bug fixes, after our upcoming May patch."
Why this decision? According to the post, the publishers feel that the game has reached its final stages and is now "fully realized."
But if you still enjoy playing the game and aren't ready to say goodbye yet, don't worry. It will still be playable for the foreeable future. Gun Interactive says it is not being delisted and will still be playable.

Olsen is now attached to the vampire project written by Se7en's Andrew Kevin Walker and Cosmatos. Per Deadline's report, the film's logline goes as follows: "Isaac and Stewart will portray Raoul and Alex, a married couple in glittering '80s L.A. who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm. Released last year onto Steam, Salient Games’ psychological horror title Gore Doctor is finally making its way to consoles, courtesy of publisher Ultimate Games. Slashing onto the Xbox Series today, the game will be heading to the PlayStation Store on May 27 for the PlayStation 5.
As you might expect, Gore Doctor draws inspiration from iconic films such as Saw, Hostel, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, with Rockstar’s Manhunt thrown in for good measure. You finds yourself abducted and imprisoned in the confines of Dr. Gorberg’s institute. Once a respected psychiatrist, Dr. Gorberg’s descent into madness followed the tragic loss of his wife, Scarlett, to an incurable illness. Unable to cope with his grief, he transformed his institute into a hellish realm of despair and death, populated by grotesque mutants resulting from his twisted experiments.
As the protagonist, players must navigate through the institute in search of an escape.

After what happened with Evil Dead: The Game and Friday The 13th: The Game, you had an inkling that something similar was going to eventually happen with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. That has unfortunately come to pass, as Gun Interactive announced this morning that after this month’s patch, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been “fully realized,” and will not be receiving any further future content or support. This means that there will be no more Dlc, balance updates, or bug fixes.

Iconic and terrifying Five Nights at Freddy's animatronic Springtrap is coming to Dead by Daylight, the long-running asymmetrical multiplayer horror game. The indie gaming scene has delivered consistent highs so far in 2025, and Midnight Mayhem is shaping up to continue that trend. With a June 3 early access Steam release date on the horizon, it won't be long before the project sees the light of day. Ironically, that's the last thing the monster within would want. In Midnight Mayhem, one shadow is all it takes to disappear. That's thanks to a unique stealth and lighting mechanic that could be a genre game-changer.
Midnight Mayhem gets the horror basics right by crafting a villain worth running from. A patchwork jester with hollow eyes is creepy even before it starts crawling on the walls. With a leering, checkerboard face and bloody grin, the monster is a sinister sight. It's the creature's powers that make it remarkable, however. Midnight Mayhem harnesses lighting in a way that fellow horror games like Dead by Daylight and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre haven't.

Final Destination is one of horror history's most successful franchises, set to have another sequel coming out 25 years after the original movie's release. There's been a lot of money that's been made with the past installments of the movie series, though there could have been much more if not for one fatal flaw with the concept of an unseen "Death" as the killer.
While the types of tragedies differ, the concept of every Final Destination movie is the same: a group of would-be victims narrowly escape certain death thanks to the warning of one person who has a premonition of the event moments before it happens. However, Death doesn't like to be cheated, and an invisible force works to kill the survivors by manipulating their surrounding environments. There's no telling when and how Death might come for the characters, which adds to the suspense, though it also meant missing out on major merchandise revenue.

Back in October, I got my hands on the Special Edition of Nighthawk Interactive’s Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead RetroRealms Double Feature. I mean, I preordered that baby, desperate for all the goodies and collectibles, plus games centering around two of my favorite horror franchises, despite my innate resistance toward 2D action platformers. The games are fine, probably great if you’re a fan of that genre, though the novelty of a pixel art-styled sidecroller with 16-bit visuals where I got to play as Ash and Michael Myers was enough to leave me satisfied with my purchase.
After all, I love video games, especially horror video games, though known properties are rarely adapted as anything other than asynchronous multiplayer titles. I tried Friday the 13th: The Game, hated the matchmaking, and thus never even bothered to try my hand at Evil Dead: The Game, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,...

Cannibalism is one of the most taboo plot devices that a movie (or any work of fiction) can possibly feature. It's no surprise, then, that many films which feature cannibalism in some capacity fall into the horror genre, such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Cannibal Holocaust (1980), and The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Nevertheless, many filmmakers have used cannibalism for more than just shock value, with recent films like Raw (2016), Bones and All (2022), and Society of the Snow (2023) even humanizing people who engage in cannibalism.
And then there's Peter Greenaway'sThe Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989). While the film doesn't feature any cannibalism until its disturbing ending, it is unique in that it features cannibalism in a rather heroic manner. This ending, combined with the film's expressionistic visual style and gruesome violence, has led to a multitude of interpretations regarding the film's themes, including as a political allegory and as a coming-of-age story.

Leatherface may soon be revving the chainsaw back up. Word is that different parties are pursuing a potential reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and one possibility would see Glen Powell in a lead role.
Per Deadline, a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie is in the planning stages at Verve, the company holding the rights to the IP since 2017. There are different pitches reportedly in consideration, including one package that could bring together Powell with filmmaker Jt Mollner and producer Roy Lee. Mollner and Lee recently worked on the horror hit Strange Darling, which holds a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes after its release last year. According to the report, Powell is interested in reading the script if Mollner can get one written, potentially putting him into position as the film's star.
Nothing is set in stone just yet, so there are no guarantees Powell will next be facing off with Leatherface.

There’s no denying how influential John Carpenter’s Halloween is. It spawned a litter of sequels and guided every single slasher movie for the next several decades, including modern fare like Freaky and Netflix's Fear Street trilogy. While the 1978 landmark film polished the slasher for mainstream audiences, countless slasher prototypes greatly impacted how Carpenter made his film. Peeping Tom, Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Black Christmas are frequently credited with jump-starting the genre.

Sometimes, when it comes to adapting Stephen King's novels for film or television, unmade is better.
There have been plenty of triumphs and many wipeouts, but the ones that sting the most tend to be the adaptations that bring a paucity of vision to his most expansive works. There have been two miniseries made out of King's post-apocalyptic masterpiece "The Stand," but they fell well short due to either budget constraints and/or simple timidity. If you're going to take on a book that's so celebrated and massive, why start from a place where you know you'll be cutting corners? It's encouraging to know that a major filmmaker like James Wan, who can secure a substantial budget due to his blockbuster success with franchises like "The Conjuring" and "The Fast and the Furious," wants to take a crack at "The Stand," but the material is so tainted at this...

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface, played by Gunnar Hansen, continues to terrify audiences. Interestingly, even the biggest names in horror weren't immune to his presence when the actor made his debut as the chainsaw-wielding character.

Zombie Date Night 2:
Roses are red…
Blood is too.
And the undead are even hungrier
In Zombie Date Night 2!
Ready For The Second Date?
"From the clearly rotted mind of Steve Urena comes the sequel to the critically acclaimed zombie romance comedy, Zombie Date Night!
Still recovering from the awkwardness of their first Zombie Date Night, main characters Jack and Ginger have reached the scariest place to be…the friend zone.
When their survival group realizes they’re running out of food, the enthusiastic and outgoing Ginger leads the charge with a very reluctant Jack to find sustenance before the zombaes (zombies who can only survive with a mate) eat them first. Will the second date be better than the first or will this situationship be food for the undead?
Returning for the sequel is the original team behind the first Zombie Date Night. Incredible art drawn by Sergi Domènech.
