Featured review
I watched "Pojdziesz ponad sadem" (You will go over the orchard) on Polish TV and was touched by it because it distantly echoed my and my parent's experience of moving from a small village to the city. This migration of people from the countryside to the city was one of the most important social changes in post-war Poland. The plot is about 17-year-old Franek (Krzysztof Stroinski), who, after his father's death, leaves the countryside for the city to study, gain a profession, and fulfill his father's ambitions. After difficulties with adapting to the new environment, after overcoming the resistance of his older brother who remained on the father's land and after not very successful first attempts at love, Franek passes his high school leaving exam and the entrance exam to university. I think that some of the outstanding features of " You will go over the orchard" are the striking debut of Krzysztof Stroinski, the director's realistic portrayal of the working-class environment and countryside environment, and the film's optimistic message. The film is a bit similar to the later, popular series with Krzysztof Stroinski "Daleko od szosy" (Far from the highway), and should appeal to anyone who remembers and likes that series.
