"Star Wars" is full of jaw-dropping CGI moments. The franchise has had a reputation for cutting-edge visual effects since the very beginning, when George Lucas committed to an impossible task to create the impressive imagery of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope." Back then, things were so complicated and expensive that Lucas literally couldn't afford to make any mistakes with the film's special effects -- and when he eventually got a chance to fully embrace computer-generated visuals, he did so with such enthusiasm that even the death sticks in "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones" wound up being CGI
Against this background, it's only natural to assume that "Star Wars" is invariably eager to create its most elaborate alien designs with CGI, especially if they also happen to be prominent characters. However, "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" shows that the franchise still knows how to embrace practical effects.

Drake's feud with Kendrick Lamar has taken an unexpected turn into the courtroom. Much of 2024 has been dominated by headlines revolving around the two artists, with both men sending each other verbal jabs through multiple songs. It was K. Dot's "Not Like Us" that those following the beef considered a win for Kendrick. Except, now, the song has created something bigger than rap.
Billboard first broke the story that Drake has now initiated legal action against Universal Music Group, alleging that the music label conspired to artificially inflate the streaming numbers of Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us." In addition, he's initiated a second legal action of defamation against Umg, under the pretense that Umg distributed the song despite knowing Kendrick's song featured allegations of criminality against Drake.
It's a rather complex case that Drake is involved in, and one that Kendrick Lamar isn't as involved in as some may think.

Here’s why Jennifer Aniston had a hard time filming Friends (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jennifer Aniston’s ride to stardom? It’s not a smooth highway. She’s finally lifting the curtain on one of the most challenging periods of her life—one that hit right while filming the Friends reunion in 2021. Spoiler: It wasn’t the laugh-track nostalgia fest we all expected.
“I think we were just so naive walking into it,” she said, reminiscing on the reunion. “How fun is this going to be? The sets are back; the vibe is set.” Then—boom—reality crashed in. “Oh right, I hadn’t thought about what was going on the last time I was here.” Cue emotional reset.
What exactly hit her so hard? She didn’t spill all the tea, but it wasn’t career drama. “It was more personal stuff that I had expectations about that sort of shape-shifted,...

While the Grammys are often dunked on for being too predictable, the reality is that they usually come with their fair share of surprise nominations. After all, unlike the Oscars, the Grammys don’t really have direct precursors, especially for the general field categories, so figuring out how the industry feels about certain songs and artists involves some guesswork. And predictions end up concentrating around the biggest stars of the year, leaving out some equally impressive genre players who inevitably get in. So if you want to be above most pundits, you should probably consider the following potential dark horses.
SEEMariah Carey on those fickle Grammys: ‘They toy with me’
Black Pumas
This soul-rock duo aren’t strangers to the Grammys, and in particular Grammy surprises. At the 2020 awards, they received a surprising but well deserved nomination for Best New Artist, ahead of a lot of commercial favorites. Then the...

When he first appeared in the "Star Trek" episode "Space Seed", Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán) was merely a villain-of-the-week. Khan was a remnant of the long-ago Eugenics Wars, a conflict that broke out on Earth in the late 1990s, and which contributed to the near-destruction of the planet several decades later. Khan, genetically enhanced, managed to escape Earth in cryogenic stasis, only to be found and revived by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise nearly 200 years later. As one might predict, Khan, still thirsty for power, attempted to take over the Enterprise.
It wouldn't be until the release of Nicholas Meyer's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" in 1982 that the character would become mythic. Montalbán returned to play a Khan that was miffed after having been abandoned, and who goes on a mad quest to find and kill Admiral Kirk (William Shatner). In "Space Seed,...

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio was one of the best movies of 2022, and while I was hoping that the film's successes would lead to a resurgence in stop-motion movies, I am still worried about the medium after Netflix's Oscar winner. I have always been a fan of stop-motion, and while there are still all kinds of stop-motion movie classics that I can go back and watch, new stop-motion movies are incredibly rare. Movies of the quality of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio barely come out, and I'm not sure if things are going to get better.
For a long time, I was worried that Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio wasn't going to get made. The acclaimed director had been pitching the idea around for over a decade before the film was actually released, with most studios not wanting to fund it. Every time del Toro moved on to a different project,...

Most Trekkies know that Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) kept a pet lionfish in a globe-shaped aquarium in his ready room. Only deep-cut Trekkies know, however, that the fish was named Livingston. Some have assumed it was named after Harold Livingston, the screenwriter of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," but the fish could also have been named after the Scottish football team, for all we know. No information has been given about Livingston the lionfish.
Indeed, no one knows if the fish was Picard's personal pet, or if lionfish were merely standard-issue in-office animals in Starfleet. It seems likely it was the former, as the latter seems too exploitative for the life-respecting Federation; no 24th-century bureaucracy would wrangle thousands of fish merely to install them as background critters in captains' ready-rooms.

Ben Folds has unveiled What Matters Most, his first studio album in eight years. The project is out today, June 2nd via New West Records. To support the release, Folds has mapped out an extensive tour.
Folds has been making music since the ’80s, and in a statement, he said What Matters Most is the culmination of all those years of writing, recording, touring, and otherwise putting in his 10,000 hours. “There’s a lifetime of craft and experience all focused into this one record,” he explained. “Sonically, lyrically, emotionally, I don’t think it’s an album I could have made at any other point in my career.”
“I come from the vinyl era, and this perhaps more than any record I’ve made is a true album,” Folds continued. “There’s a very specific sequence and arc to each side, all building up to this almost surreal positive finale,...

“Succession”-mania has reached the Major Leagues, with the MLB on Saturday acknowledging a viral fan theory about the HBO show’s finale that ties into a historic World Series play. As MLB.com writer Brian Murphy put it, “We’ll see if the conclusion does indeed tie back to a piece of baseball history from 103 years ago.”
Careful for “Succession” spoilers below.
The MLB shared Nameberry’s viral TikTok video connecting the “Succession” character Tom Wambsgans’ surname to an obscure MLB player whose sole memorable moment in the Majors came in Game 5 of the 1920 World Series. Bill Wambsganss, an infielder for Cleveland, is the only player in league history to turn an unassisted triple play in the postseason.

For its penultimate episode, “Succession” assembled pretty much every major cast member – past and present – for the funeral of Logan Roy, and that posed a unique challenge for director Mark Mylod when it came to covering all the actors in a limited window of availability. His solution? Shoot it like a multi-cam comedy with lots of cameras and a long, extended take.
“With those hyper-emotional scenes, there’s just a trust that’s involved,” Mylod said in the behind-the-scenes video for the episode. “The challenge was getting the right combination in the church of the epic and the intimate, and a very real logistical challenge of just getting it all shot. We had a huge page count in the church and a very, very limited availability. But it meant that we had to shoot, even by our standards – and we can shoot quite fast sometimes – but with our normal two-camera way of shooting,...

The Twilight Saga is full of moments of foreshadowing, and there are two in the first book of the series that teased two crucial moments in New Moon. Stephenie Meyer shared her version of vampires and werewolves in the Twilight book series, which took readers to a world where these creatures co-exist with humans. The main focus of the Twilight series is the toxic relationship between vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and mortal Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who had to defend their relationship from both vampires and werewolves, but mostly from a powerful and dangerous group of vampires known as the Volturi.
Edward and Bella went through many ups and downs throughout the Twilight Saga, and one of their most dramatic moments happened in the second movie, New Moon. Concerned about Bella’s safety but refusing to turn her into a vampire, Edward broke up with her, sending her into...

In an upcoming series from Prime Video, a world-renowned band has a tumultuous time recording their most-famous record and is slowly torn apart by drama, trauma, jealousy, and drug use. Surprisingly, this isn't the premise for a "Fleetwood Mac" biopic — it's an adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling novel, "Daisy Jones and the Six." Like the book, the series will tell the tale of a '70s band whose breakup makes them legends.
But it isn't all dashed dreams and broken hearts. Before the fall, there was a meteoric rise to fame. Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin) and Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) are two superstars in the making. Long before they've met, the separate artists are oozing talent. But sometimes it takes a little more than that to claim success and it isn't until they cross paths that stardom truly awaits.
