Giuliano Gemma as flamboyant gangster didn't work out plenty!!

The Italian filmmakers tried too hard introducing his Spaghetti star Giuliano Gemma on the profitable American market by any means, some endeavors had enough successes quite sure often directed by the expert Enzo Barbone, nonetheless wasn't the case of Charleston whatsoever, a mixing of Hill-Spencer alike, on those endless fights were nobody hurts properly, also on utmost comical farse, reaching near of slapstick comedy in homage the twenties where the story unfolds, also the soundtrack as well.

A Chicago's dreamer guy Sonny (Giuliano Gemma) stumbles at four New Yorkers wanted mobsters on a train where the leader Tiger Malone (Faietta) suggests to him takes care of their territory for a while until the things calm down, plenty accepted by the smart Sonny envisages become a top notch gangster, arriving there he lodges at famous Hotel Waldorf Story (what a smart mocking), aided by a man called Barabbas (another joke on heretic way), soon he implies an extorsion on neighborhood businessmen as securing for those who may intents make a robber and didn't pay the orderings, it must be payed weekly.

Turns out that Mulberry Street in question already has an owner called Rocky, whom no one ever knew the face, also there has a bulky Irish Father O'Flanagan (Ricky Bruch) that make a communal labor at behalf of homeless children, among a two women wresting against a happy guy, also trying extort the Father O'Flanagan that payback with a boxing test, the flamboyant Sonny going on easily, until he meets a gorgeous silly angel Virginia (Laura Becherelli) aftermaths the fearsome mobster Tiger is back requiring his former territory again, thus the chaos takes place.

Silly, but a nice comedy

This film has the typical air of Italian action/gangster comedies from that period. I guess one needs to be a true fan of this style but then it is a perfectly charming and funny sort of comedy. The acting is not too important anyway but still it is reasonable and enjoyable. The cliches of black and white are wonderfully maintained in this movie as the good guys are clever and witty and the bad ones are bad and pretty dumb. I considered the "Shakespearian" dream of the "good" Mafioso a bit stupid but then a film like that seems in need of a few blunders. The costumes are great. All in all enjoyable.
