5 Actresses Who Should Play Wonder Woman In James Gunn's DC Universe
Image
Wonder Woman fans can rest easy, because DC Studios' head James Gunn has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that a new "Wonder Woman" movie is being written right now. But fans shouldn't expect to see Gal Gadot back as Diana, because while this is the third live-action "Wonder Woman" film, it is almost certainly going to be a reboot, not a sequel to "Wonder Woman 1984."

The previous silver screen Wonder Woman movies were part of the now-dead DC Extended Universe. We're about a month out from seeing if Gunn's DC Universe Take Two can soar with "Superman." So far, of the DC Trinity, we only have David Corenswet cast as Superman. But Gunn does have plans for the other two.

Batman is set to star in "The Brave and the Bold." Directed by Andy Muschietti, this film will see Bruce Wayne partnered with his son, Damian Wayne/Robin. How...

With fandom anticipation for Star Trek 4 at an all-time high, according to Trekmovie.com, J.J. Abrams and “Deadpool & Wolverine” producer Simon Kinberg are attached as co-producers with a possible start of production in 2025.

With the Grahame-Smith Star Trek 4 script completed with a possible 2026 release date. Although, there are some uncertainties.

DC Fans Accusing Wonder Woman 1984 Of Promoting Sexual Assault And Racism
While early reactions to Wonder Woman 1984 were generally positive, the film is now facing a lot of controversy and backlash online, with many fans hailing Patty Jenkins’ sequel as the worst pic in the Dceu, which, given its unwieldy track record, is a bold statement to make.

Disregarding the lacklustre action sequences, and its numerous plot holes that haunt the coherency of the narrative, folks are also struggling with a certain element involving the return of Steve Trevor. And we’ll warn you now that spoilers lie ahead.

For those who’ve watched WW84, you’ll know that the circumstances involving the apparent resurrection of Trevor were confusing, to say the least. The character suddenly sprang up 30 minutes into the film, where he explained that his soul took possession of a random guy’s body. What makes this even more unsettling is the fact that Diana and Steve proceed to...

Wonder Woman 1984 Ropes in a Stunning Blast from DC's Past
Image
After countless delays and dramas, the long, overstretched waiting is now over- Wonder Woman 1984 is finally here. Even before the film released, it was already known that the story would see Gal Gadot back as the badass Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman, Kristen Wiig becoming the "apex predator," and Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord at the heart of a massive calamity. But rest assured, WW1984 does pack its fair share of surprises and that includes a nostalgic cameo aptly added to the story. And if our deductions (as well as the desperate hopes) are right, it's slated to be so much more than just fan service.

(The following article contains major spoilers from Wonder Woman 1984. Turn away now if you haven't seen it yet)

AMC Entertainment Is Selling More Stock To Raise Cash, Survive Covid-19
Image
AMC Entertainment on Thursday filed with the SEC to sell up to 200 million shares as the embattled exhibitor seeks to keep its business afloat with the global pandemic dragging on.

It could raise $844 million at an estimated offering price of $4.22 per share, based on trading Nov. 30, the filing said. But the stock has been volatile, falling nearly 7% to just over $4 at the market open.

The nation’s largest movie chain noted several months ago that it was fast depleting funds and risked running out of cash by late this year or early next if it couldn’t raise more. It has indicated that additional stock sales – it’s done a several already — might be a stopgap as it awaits a hoped for uptick in business and eventual vaccine.

Its SEC prospectus for potential shareholders includes a long list of investment risk factors, including “our ability to obtain additional liquidity, which...

The well-reviewed “Charlie’s Angels” reboot is the latest studio box office bomb of the fall movie season, following in the footsteps of such disasters as “The Goldfinch,” “Gemini Man,” “Motherless Brooklyn,” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” The Elizabeth Banks-directed action comedy failed to crack $9 million at the box office over its opening weekend. Box office tracking had “Charlie’s Angels” opening at an already-disappointing $10 million, but the final total came in well below that low mark. IndieWire’s box office expert Tom Brueggemann says the film “will be a significant loss” for Sony this season.

Prior to the movie’s disastrous opening weekend, Banks gave an interview to the Herald Sun that is now proving to be somewhat controversial. The filmmaker, who also wrote and produced “Charlie’s Angels” and stars in the movie as Bosley, called out a potential box office bomb as being sexist. “Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie,...

Scad Savannah Fest Gives Female Filmmakers an Awards Push
Reed Morano
Films by and centering around women will be showcased among the 159 films — 35 narratives, 15 documentaries and 109 shorts — at the 22nd Scad Savannah Film Festival. Following an Oscar year in which they were shut out, more than 50 selections — many in awards-foreshadowing categories — are directed by women.

“I remember being at the Savannah Film Festival with Reed Morano,” says Olivia Wilde, Scad’s 2015 Spotlight Award recipient and producer-star of Morano’s “Meadowland.” “That was her directorial debut, and I was so profoundly proud to see her stepping into this role and getting to connect with her audience in that way.”

At this year’s festival, for which organizers expect 63,000 attendees from Oct. 26-Nov. 2, Wilde will receive Scad’s Rising Star Director Award for her directorial debut, “Booksmart.”

“It feels like female filmmakers are taking up more space,” she says. “We’re still only 15% of the Directors Guild, which has to change, but festivals...

Godzilla Vs. Kong Gets New Earlier Release Date

Production kicked off on the highly-anticipated blockbuster in November and it will serve as the fourth entry in the MonsterVerse, which kicked off in 2014 with director Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. Previously, they had the movie set within the early summer blockbuster season on May 22, 2020. However, Universal also recently did some reshuffling and they decided to put Fast and Furious 9 on that very same May 22 date. So, to avoid...

Patty Jenkins hints at ‘Wonder Women 3’ time period
We’re yet to see how ‘Wonder Women’ director, Patty Jenkins has followed up the phenomenal success of her 2017 DC outing, but Jenkins has hinted at a more contemporary setting for a possible third offering for the Amazonian superhero.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Jenkins was quick to mention that, as yet, she is not committed to a third film but if she was to return she wasn’t keen to do another period piece. The setting would definitely be set in the present day.

“I’m not set, but I’m not dying to do another period piece. I’m not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.

First Look at Alexander Skarsgard in Godzilla Vs. Kong
Gareth Edwards
The first set photos from Godzilla Vs Kong have arrived. The epic monster showdown kicked off filming toward the end of last week and, while these first photos obviously won't feature either of the two monsters people are going to shell out money to see, we do get a glimpse at some of the human cast members joining in on the action, as both Alexander Skarsgard and Eiza Gonzalez were spotted on set.

As is quite often the case with unofficial set photos, this first batch of images isn't terribly revealing. We see both stars in gold and black jumpsuits with harnesses on a treacherous, mountainous terrain. Could it be that they're off somewhere on Skull Island looking for King Kong? That's purely speculative at this point. What we do see is Alexander Skarsg&#229rd looking rather angry in one particular shot. What's he angry about? Again, at this point,...

Why So Many Contenders Flock to the Savannah Film Festival
Jason Reitman
In recent years, the Scad Savannah Film Festival has become a favorite Oscar season stop for stars and filmmakers. Unlike the Toronto Intl. Film Festival or Sundance, it’s not a frenzied hotbed of deals and world premieres, but it has its own quaint charms that reflect the historic 285-year-old city where it unspools.

“It’s one of those deep indie-film-loving communities that are as passionate about watching movies as it is about making them,” says director Jason Reitman, who shot “The Front Runner” in the city, and will be at the fest for a gala screening, along with star Hugh Jackman. It’s a return trip for Reitman, who screened “Tully” at the fest last year.

The festival’s passion for film is driven by the students and the faculty of the Savannah College of Art and Design (Scad), who run the event.

“Scad is the festival,” says president and founder Paula Wallace.

Female Director Scorecard: Warner Bros Lining Up Its Superheroes
Exclusive: It was a female director who gave the industry and Warner Bros the highest overall summer film last year with $412.5 million at the domestic box office and provided the studio the wind to sail past Disney as the first to win the $2 billion domestic box office race. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman made the industry sit up and take notice when the Superhero origin film opened to $103.2M domestically and $228M internationally. It was one of only three films last year the studio released from female directors. The others were Denise Di Novi’s Unforgettable and Stella Meghie’s Everything, Everything (an MGM co-production). New Line had zero, but these numbers are changing, and for the better.

We’ve come a long way since Jeffrey Katzenberg entrusted a female director who had only previously worked in TV — Mimi Leder — to helm DreamWorks’ first live-action title, The Peacemaker. That sent tongues...

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 1 - Fascination (2008)
Comic-Con: Why Is Hall H Still Lacking in Female Panelists?
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 1 - Fascination (2008)
hen the first “Twilight” movie premiered at Comic-Con in 2009, it spawned protests. Multiple fans wandered the San Diego Convention Center holding signs with captions such as “Twilight has ruined Comic-Con!” One attendee, when asked by L.A. Weekly if his characterization of “Twilight” fans as “screeching girls” was sexist, countered that “girls have been making fun of fanboys for years, calling them nerdy and smelly.”

The inclusion of the “Twilight” films was a “watershed” for the convention, according to science-fiction writer Charlie Jane Anders.

“All of a sudden there were all these female fans who showed up for ‘Twilight’ who would actually get in line for Hall H,” says Anders, co-founder of the website io9. “But the amazing thing was that even after there were no more ‘Twilight’ movies, it felt like the attendees never went back to the way they had been. It felt like a lot of women...

Outfest 2018 To Feature Record Number of Female, Trans and Directors of Color
The 2018 Outfest Film Festival, the largest Lgbtq film festival in Los Angeles, will feature its most inclusive lineup of filmmakers with narrative and documentary features that reflect a growing sense of activism in the Trump era.

Organizers of Outfest, which which kicks off Thursday night, are celebrating a record number of entries this year by filmmakers of color, women and transgender directors. Two-thirds of films screening at the festival are from these underrepresented groups, a new milestone, said Outfest director of programming Lucy Mukerjee. Last year, 50% of the films at the festival were directed by women.

Mukerjee explained that it has become imperative for Outfest to be more inclusive and intersectional, reflecting not just one narrow view of the Lgbtq community.

“Putting the creative visions of women and people of color and transgender directors on the same plane as cisgender, white directors felt like the only logical and ethical thing to do,...

Academy Invites Record 928 New Members
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited a record number of new members, extending invites to 928 people.

The Academy topped last year’s record of 774 new members. It invited 683 members in 2016 and 322 in 2015, which were also record numbers.

The expansion of Academy membership to more than 9,200 stems from an ongoing effort to diversify its ranks following uproar over the lack of African-American nominees in 2015 and 2016, which culminated in 2016’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Two weeks after the widely criticized nominations were announced, AMPAS announced a goal to double the number of women and diverse members of the Academy by 2020.

If all the 2018 invitees accept, the overall membership would be 9,226.

Monday’s invitations, if accepted, will result in 38% of the Oscars’ governing body’s new class being comprised of people of color, increasing their representation from 13% in 2017 to 16%.

Meanwhile, the new class is 49% female, boosting the total representation of women...

Will Smith, Jared Leto, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, and Karen Fukuhara in Suicide Squad (2016)
The DC Extended Universe (Dceu) has seen its fair share of critical misfires, from “Batman v. Superman” to “Suicide Squad” and “Justice League,” but all hope isn’t lost. During an appearance on Kevin Smith’s podcast “Fat Man on Batman,” Marvel Cinematic Universe screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus offered their advice on how the Dceu can be saved, and it turns out less is more when it comes to building a gigantic movie universe.

“I would look at what Marvel did, out of necessity, in that they didn’t have their A-list characters [at the beginning],” Markus said. “They didn’t have Spider-Man, they didn’t have the X-Men, and they went down the line and found [other characters].”

Markus pointed to Iron Man kicking off the McU a decade ago. While the character has since become one of the most popular superheroes in the world, Iron Man wasn’t a guarantee for...
