A gentle touching comedy that begins with a wedding in which Carlos (Jorge Rivero), an office worker, rises in rank by marrying the daughter called Fanny (Dyanik Zurakowska) of the company owner. At the time of the wedding celebration, a child called Carlitos (Carlos Sellés) appears claiming to be the son of the groom who is getting married. The parents, Doña Clotilde(Florinda Chico), Don Luciano (Luis Barbero) of the bride are shocked and cancel the wedding. The abandoned groom carries out an investigation to discover who the child's parents are. Through a series of incidents with a taxi driver (Ángel de Andrés) , a traffic agent (Laly Soldevila), some car crashes and an ambulance (driven by Álvaro de Luna), our protagonist is arrested and taken to the police station. The rude commissioner, Comisario (Antonio Garisa) father of a large family, interrogates him and tries to resolve the mess that has taken place. A bit later on, our starring and the kid , meet his mummy, Elena (Teresa Gimpera), who turns out to be a single mother who was abandoned by the real father
The typical comedy with brief doses of drama dealing with a lost child who's looking for his father, which failed completely at the box office, resulting in a film that was totally unknown. Here they tried to follow the successes of the then-famous prodige children as Ana Belén, Rocio Durcal, Lolo Garcia, and previously Marisol ó Joselito, but it failed miserably, this is because the child protagonist has no charisma whatsoever, and comes across as very annoying and repellent. The peculiarity is that he is a child singer, and because of this he sings some boring songs throughout the film, among which are the following: Negrito, al salir el sol, Walt Disney, y Me gusta el verano.
Stars Jorge Rivero, a very handsome and muscular Mexican leading man, on-screen from the mid-1960s. Ironically, in his debut film he played a masked wrestler and his face was never shown. Rivero soon became a sex symbol and a major box-office star, and was called by Hollywood to star with John Wayne in Howard Hawks's Rio Lobo (1970) ans subsequently playing various coproductions as Manaos, Day of the Assassin, Bordello, Evil Eye, Profesor Eróticus, Angel Negro, Beatriz. Since the 1980s he has worked only occasionally in Mexican films and soap operas -- he has lived in Southern California for more than a decade -- but shows up in international productions, sometimes billed as "George Rivero". Next to him the then young and now recently deceased Tersa Gimpera playing the beloved mother. She became one of the muses of the so-called Barcelona School , a cinematographic movement that emerged as a response to the more commercial Spanish cinema, with directors such as Gonzalo Suárez , Vicente Aranda and Jorge Grau . She was an actress, known both national and internationally for Lucky, el intrépido (1967), Ace of Hearts (1975), Ten Little Indians (1974), and The Spirit of the Beehive (1973). And she was married to American actor Craig Hill. The main amusement of ¨El mejor regalo (1975)¨ is to guess which famous and familiar supporting actor appears in the next frame, among which it is worth mentioning: Florinda Chico, Antonio Garisa, Dyanik Zurakowska, José Bódalo, Laly Soldevila, Xan das Bolas, Álvaro de Luna, Ángel de Andrés, Luis Barboo, Manuel Guitián, Ricardo Tundidor, Jorge Rigaud, among others.
Averagely but professionally directed by Javier Aguirre, this is a generally light, mindless, and entertaining movie, but nothing special. Javier Aguirre's direction adeptly keeps the entertainment and comedy afloat and it comes thick and fast, while the script has plenty of fun and engaging moments. Being amusingly made by this prolific filmmaker Javier Aguirre (his big hits were El Astronauta , El Jorobado De La Morgue , Monja Alférez) . Javier was a craftsman , expert on comedies such as : ¨El Astronauta¨, ¨Los Que Tocan El Piano¨ , ¨Locuras De Parchis¨ , ¨Los Chicos Con Las Chicas¨, ¨Soltero Y Padre En la Vida¨, ¨Soltera Y Madre En La Vida¨, ¨Rocky Carambola¨, ¨Martes Y Trece¨. Aguirre also made quite a few terror , frightening movies , such as : ¨Gran Amor Conde Drácula¨, ¨Jorobado De La Morgue¨, ¨Vida Perra¨, ¨Asesino Está En Sus Trece¨. In addition , he directed various ¨Avant Garde¨ films . Here Aguirre carries out a below average, but professional direction , though including some flaws and gaps. Rating : 4.5/10.
