Emma Appleton is all set to bewitch the audience once more in her new project. The actress is known for her spellbinding performance in The Witcher. The upcoming indie film has caught the attention of horror enthusiasts. The untitled feature will mark the debut of the promising filmmaker Dean Puckett as reported by Collider.

The film narrates a haunting portrayal of a terrified town, and it features Appleton at the heart of what seems to be a nightmarish scenario. Appleton's look hints at something sinister unfolding​​, while dressed in old English attire and smeared with blood.

Not many details are known about the film. We do know that the film has already wrapped up production in the southwest coast of England. Aside from that, the narrative revolves around a brutal witch hunt that wreaks havoc in a small religious community. The story takes a dark turn following the enigmatic death of a town member.

Sony Pictures Television has pre-sold Twisted Metal, The Winter King and Ten Pound Poms to international buyers as the LA Screenings gets underway.

Twisted Metal, based on the classic PlayStation game and starring Anthony Mackie (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier) and Stephanie Beatriz has gone to SonyLIV in India, Tvnz in New Zealand (Tvnz), Stan in Australia, BeIN (the Middle East); Warner Bros Discovery (Central and Eastern Europe) and Mnet’s Showmax (sub-Saharan Africa). It launches on Peacock on June 27.

Arthurian drama series The Winter King, from Spt’s Bad Wolf, starring the likes of Ellie James and Eddie Marsan, has gone to SonyLIV, BeIN and Stan. Last week, it emerged MGM+ had joined the UK’s Itvx as a co-commissioner on the series. It’s based on Bernard Cornwell’s novel series The Warlord Chronicles

Rounding out the sales, SonyLIV, Tvnz and France’s Ocs have acquired Ten Pound Poms.

Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films have revealed two more projects in development and made a senior creative hire.

“The Man In The Back Seat” (working title) a series development from novelist David Peace (“Red Riding”) and actor-writer, Ted Reilly, is the company’s first foray into the original true-crime genre. Based on events documented in the book “The Long Silence” by Paul Stickler, who serves as a consultant, the series will follow the 1962 criminal case, where after the longest trial in British legal history, James Hanratty was executed for the murder of Michael Gregsten, and the rape and attempted murder of Valerie Storie.

Additionally, Eleventh Hour have optioned author and journalist Celia Walden’s thriller “Payday” for development into a series. “Payday” is a female-driven thriller set in Bwl, a property brokerage firm that sells properties to developers for millions where the protagonists decide to destroy the sexist golden boy of the firm.

“The Killing Kind,” the latest novel from best-selling author Jane Casey, has been optioned by Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films.

The thriller, which is published Thursday by HarperCollins, will be adapted into a limited series by screenwriters Zara Hayes (“Showtrial”) and Jonathan Stewart (“Meet You in Hell”). Hayes will also direct while Casey has signed on as executive producer alongside Eleventh Hour Films’ Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez and Paula Cuddy.

“The Killing Kind” is Casey’s 11th crime novel for adults, and centres around Ingrid Lewis, a London-based criminal barrister whose life is ostensibly destroyed by John Webster, a client she defended against a stalking charge. When one of her colleagues is mown down in an apparent hit and run, Lewis suspects she was the intended victim until Webster turns up at her door claiming only he can protect her from the real killer.

Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films has optioned Jane Casey’s novel The Killing Kind and will adapt it into a limited series.

Screenwriters Zara Hayes (Showtrial) and Jonathan Stewart (Meet You In Hell) have been attached to reimagine the book, with the former set to direct.

Published today by HarperCollins, the story centers on a barrister, named Ingrid Lewis, who defends John Webster against stalking charges, only for Webster to turn on her. When a colleague is run down on a busy London road, Lewis is sure she was the intended victim, and Webster claims he is the only one who can protect her from the killer.

David Dastmalchian and Rhys Wakefield are set as series regulars opposite Abigail Spencer and Mena Massoud in Hulu drama pilot Reprisal, from Warren Littlefield and A+E Studios.

Written by Josh Corbin (StartUp) and to be directed by BAFTA-nominated Jonathan Van Tulleken (Off Season), Reprisal hails from A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company. It’s a hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale (Spencer) who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.

Dastmalchian will play Johnson. As the longest standing member of The 3 River Phoenixes, Johnson has chosen to take a backseat to his placement in their hierarchy. Reliable, dedicated, and quieter than most, no one expects much out of the typically stoic young man. But it’s his progressing unpredictability that just may make him the Phoenixes’ greatest threat.

Another forgotten gem from the mid-1970s receiving a new Blu-ray treatment is 1975’s Report to the Commissioner, a textured police procedural examining changing social mores and the generalized internal corruptions we’re used to in these scenarios, resulting in tragic circumstances thanks to the sincere ignorance of its protagonist. Yaphet Kotto, a regular supporting player in a number of Blaxploitation features from the decade, is a standout as a weary, sympathetic detective numbed by the machinations of law enforcement. It’s a greatly overlooked title of the era, featuring a variety of recognizable names in early roles as street hoods, and based on a novel by James Mills (The Panic in Needle Park, 1971), adapted for the screen by Abby Mann (Judgment at Nuremberg, 1961) and Ernest Tidyman (Shaft; The French Connection, both 1971). Though its narrative is, at times, a bit rough around the edges, this deliberately paced thriller features rich characterizations and excellent chase sequences.

It’s too easy to view influential films as if they were made in a vacuum, but when we talk about The Exorcist as possibly the best horror movie ever made, it got me thinking – was it part of a great year for the horror genre? What else was out there in 1973? Were all the horror movies of that year along similar themes, or were they all still dealing in physical rather than psychological horror?...

Curtis Harrington was born in Los Angeles in 1926. He made short films as a teenager, graduated from USC, and began his Hollywood career in the 1950’s. By the end of the decade, he was directing: independent films, studio pictures, made-for-tv movies, and episodic TV. He completed his last short film in 2002, and died in 2007 at the age of 80.

I knew Curtis well in his final years, as did writer-producer Dennis Bartok, the former head programmer of L.A.’s famed American Cinematheque.
