Absurd coincidences and unexpected surprises are what life makes worth living! Even the smallest and seemingly insignificant ones. For example, more than 15 years ago, I purchased the Norman J. Warren collection DVD-boxset, which includes four sleazy & trashy but incredibly fun B-horror movies: "Satan's Slave", "Prey", "Terror", and "Inseminoid". Since I loved all of them, I continued searching for more titles from the same director, like "Spaced Out". However, I never found a decent version and just gradually forgot about it altogether. Now, I found and watched "Spaced Out" where I least suspected it would be... on Netflix!
As you can probably guess, there isn't too much to write about "Spaced Out" (or "Outer Touch" which is apparently the original title), except that it's a harmless and silly - but occasionally also very entertaining - sex comedy from the typically British late-70s era. It's suggestive and eventually becomes a tad bit naughty, but nothing memorable.
Three female aliens make an emergency landing on earth. They look ravishing and luscious, but they have never encountered males before and haven't got a clue what the "appendages" on the front sides of their flat-chested bodies are for. Four earthly locals board the ship, and they all happen to be sexually frustrated in various ways. There's a couple of which the wife refuses to have sex before marriage, a horny sex magazine-addicted student, and a macho that hasn't got any sex in a long time. Gee, I wonder what happens when they all come together...
To illustrate just how goofball "Spaced out" is, the spaceship's board computer sounds like a stereotypical gay man, and there's also a jukebox that gives relationship therapy and counselling sessions. Lovely! All the actresses are naturally beautiful women, with curvaceous (and insatiable) Ava Cadell as my personal favorite one.

The best thing about this was the typical dry delivery Brit humor is famous for.
A UFO full of sexy female aliens comes to earth to check out male sexuality. They take a medical approach that gradually turns into full fledged desire. The males are your basic cross section. The wannabe Lothario, the geeky student, etc.
The student had most of the best lines. He saw it all as scientific as well, for a while at least.
The technical aspects aren't that great though. The print I saw seemed dark and it was obvious they didn't have a lot of area to work with. It looked like they used 2 or 3 rooms in a local studio. Keep dressing it up different and no one will notice right? It was funny. Had some good bits. Call it another late night flick with beer and the gang.

One of the unexpected sci-fi sex comedies that came out after the success of STAR WARS, SPACED OUT is from British horror director Norman J. Warren and one of his less well known movies, crammed in between his bloodier fare. This one's a low budget odyssey in which a trio of female aliens kidnap four people and subject them to various experiments aboard their spaceship. It's very low fi and only moderately amusing, although the Robin Askwith wannabe is funny enough. Inevitably the emphasis is on attractive starlets stripping off, although as with a lot of these British sex comedies, it's quite tame really.
Haven't seen this movie in 20 years...but I have fond remembrances of the sex, adolescent humor, and boobies.
Basically, some humans get picked up by a female dominated spaceship (with a gay computer) and the sexual hijinx begin as a "lady's man" and teenage chronic masturbator find themselves in the middle.
Don't expect a "serious" comedy like Galaxy Quest...this is strictly for the Simpson's generation.
The comedy is juvenile, the jokes forgettable, the acting funny as hell because it's so bad.
I'd love to find the movie again. Help anyone???

Okay, this movie is pretty cheesy, but it is funny in places, the stereotypical gay computer and "America's Funniest Home Videos" Bob Saget as a drugged out stoner juke box do some very amusing voice over work with lots of funny one liners. But the real treat in this sci fi sex romp is the fresh faced Glory Annen, who's whole part is basically an excuse for her to rollerskate around half nekkid! Ya gotta luv that! There's a particularly bizarre scene where Ms. Annen does a weird little dance number to some 70's style rock music and her clothes vanish suddenly for no reason. This movie doesn't make much sense but its in the same wacky vein as "Plan 9 From Outer Space", its not supposed to make sense I guess. Too bad Glory Annen quit show business a few years after this, she was one hot mama, in my somewhat less than humble opinion.

- TriviaNorman J. Warren said he turned the film down originally, because the script wasn't terribly good. It was also going back to the old sexploitation days he'd left behind with his earlier films, which he didn't want to do anymore. However, the producer was very determined and said Warren could change the script if he wanted. So he sat down with the writer and said, rather than try and make a sex film, why don't they make it more of a comedy? So that's what they did. Though it did still feature nudity and sex.
