Chromeo have announced their new album Adult Contemporary, out on February 16th, 2024. Along with the news, they’ve shared another single called “Personal Effects.”
Now nearly 20 years into their time as a band, Adult Contemporary sees Chromeo’s Dave 1 (Dave Macklovitch) and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) “exploring what it means to be funky in your 30s and 40s.” The album’s 14 tracks — which also include singles “Replacements” and “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl” — attempt to navigate mid-life relationships, riding all the ebbs and flows into a new chapter.
“Personal Effects” is funky indeed, built on a disco-inspired bass line and embellished with sleek synths. On it, Chromeo meditate on the immediate lingering aftermath of a breakup: “She knew just what she was doing/ Leaving her personal effects behind/ I know I’ll find them one night and she’ll probably be on my mind,” Dave 1 sings, perhaps alluding...

Love Actually's fat-shaming jokes towards Natalie have not aged well, overshadowing Martine McCutcheon's charming performance. Martine McCutcheon gained critical acclaim for her role as Tiffany Mitchell in the soap opera EastEnders, but her character was killed off. McCutcheon found success as a popstar with a number one single, but also continued acting, including a memorable but silly death in Midsomer Murders.
One of the most prominent storylines in the 2003 Christmas classic, Natalie's (Martine McCutcheon) romance with Prime Minister David (Hugh Grant) in Love Actually is still talked about today. Written and directed by Richard Curtis, Love Actually tells 10 separate love stories during the London holiday season, and as the plot progresses many of these stories become intertwined. The film boasts a cast of predominantly British A-list stars such as Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, and Keira Knightley.

An intimate yet slight portrait of New York cartoonist, poet, children’s book author, New York Times op-ed contributor, and father to nine child, Stevenson: Lost and Found captures quintessential oddball and Yale-educated life-long freelancer James Stevenson. The film is a loving tribute to Stevenson who passed away in 2017 at the age of 87 as director Sally Jean Williams combines the recollections of colleagues from the New Yorker and the New York Times, his spouse Josephine Merck, and many of his children who recall a father preoccupied with work to the point he thought Skittles were an acceptable lunch.
The author of the Times’s Lost and Found Vanishing New York, his work takes a poignant turn (as does the film) as his health declines, although he continues to produce work like City Footprints in the Snow which bring a kind of joy as they celebrate the spirit of a city...

Rob Garrison has passed away. He was 59-years old. Garrison is arguably best known for playing Tommy in 1984's The Karate Kid, a role which he reprised this year for YouTube's successful Cobra Kai series. The actor died Friday morning in a hospital in West Virginia. According to his sister-in-law, Garrison was suffering liver and kidney problems and was in the hospital for over a month. He died as a result of his organs shutting down. His family is currently setting up funeral arrangements.
"Rob was a great person and ambassador to The Karate Kid legacy," said his talent manager Rick Henriques in a statement. Henriques went on to say, "His performance in season 2 of Cobra Kai, being his last, was simply amazing and he stole the episode." Garrison's Tommy character was the one in Karate Kid who excitedly cheered on William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence during his final match with Ralph Macchio.

Comedy Central provided three episodes of “Broad City’s” final season for review, and all three are excellent. “Stories,” the Season 5 premiere, should get critics and fans talking about the gifts and pilfers of social media — how, in an episode shot as if on an iPhone and told as if it’s an Instagram story, the dedication to telling stories for others can rob the storyteller of their own experience. “Artsy Fartsy” and “Lost and Found,” which will air almost a month later, dig into personal growth moments for Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) and Ilana (Ilana Glazer) — moments told in classic “Broad City” structure, but pushing each leading lady to decisions they’ve been avoiding.
“Stories” ranks among the best episodes of the series, and the other two prove Jacobson and Glazer — the creators, writers, directors, producers, and stars — remain at the top of their games. “Broad City” still delivers all...

The CW's Dorian Gray TV series will be a "comedic" adaptation of the classic Oscar Wilde story.
You gotta hand it to The CW: the network is committed to its reimaginings of popular properties, from the comic book world to the literary one. It's been a few years since Beauty and the Beast was on the CW's schedule, which means it may be time for a different show based on classic literary material to make it onto the rotation...
According to Variety, The CW is currently developing a TV series based on the Oscar Wilde novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, which is about an ever-youthful and ever-beautiful young man named Dorian Gray whose portrait becomes increasingly hideous as he himself becomes mean, cruel, and bitter. The portrait becomes a record of the sins, as Dorian Gray's youthful, beautiful facade obscures the terrible human underneath.

The CW is developing a series based on Oscar Wilde novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” Variety has learned.
Titled “Dorian,” the series is described as a comedic spin on the classic story. It follows a woman who made a deal with the devil 50 years ago to remain young and has spent the subsequent decades living selfishly and without consequences. As the downsides of eternal youth finally land on her, Dorian is ready to grow up and age gracefully, but, to do so, she’ll have to make amends for half a century of bad behavior.
The series hails from writer and executive producer Marisa Coughlan, with Len Goldstein also executive producing. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
Coughlan is primarily known for her acting work, having appeared in films like “Super Troopers” and its sequel as well as “Space Station 76.” She has sold multiple projects to the broadcast networks in the past few years,...

Filmmakers enjoyed their heydays in the 1970s.
The world of cinema has lost two luminaries in Rocky director John G. Avildsen and A Clockwork Orange editor Bill Butler.
Avildsen died on June 16 from pancreatic cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 81.
After starting out as a cinematographer he ventured into directing, eventually guiding Jack Lemmon to an Academy Award-winning performance in Save The Tiger in 1974.
Three years later he won the directing Oscar for Rocky – a film he later professed to having had no initial interest in until he became enchanted by the first pages of Sylvester Stallone’s Oscar-nominated script.
Avildsen’s other credits included the first three films in The Karate Kid franchise in the 1980s and Rocky V in 1990.
Briton Bill Butler, who earned an editing Oscar nomination for Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 avante-garde A Clockwork Orange, died in hospital in Sherman Oaks, California, on June 4. He was 83.
