Brian Deacon (Jesus) grew his hair out and grew a beard but producer John Heyman decided to have Deacon wear a chestnut wig over his own hair. Heyman also had Deacon wear a prosthetic nose to make him look more Middle Eastern and what Jesus probably looked like. In a few scenes that were shown in the New Media Bible book of Luke, Deacon's prosthetic nose looks crooked. Those scenes were not kept in the Jesus film.
