Roger Cook, known to viewers of PBS’ long-running series This Old House as the landscaper with a solution to every problem and an answer to every question, died August 21 following a lengthy illness. He was 70.
His death was announced on This Old House‘s official website.

Cook’s involvement with the popular home-renovation series spanned nearly 40 years. According to his Legacy.com obituary, Cook passed away following an extended illness on Wednesday, August 21. The obit described him as “the loving husband of the late Kathleen E. (Gulde) Cook, with whom he had shared many wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing on December 1, 2010.” Born in 1954 in Biddeford, Maine, Cook received a Bachelor of Science in wildlife management and conservation law from the University of Maine in 1977 and went on to work as a certified landscape contractor in Massachusetts. Russell Morash, who created long-running Wgbh series This Old House and was a frequent Julia Child collaborator, has died.
Morash died June 20 at 88.
He was originally hired as a camera operator at public broadcaster GBH in 1958 before becoming a producer and director.
In addition to creating This Old House, which initially ran on Wgbh between 1979 and 2001, he began working with Julia Child as director of The French Chef in 1963 and worked with the celebrity chef for more than 30 years.
In Max’s recent drama series Julia, he was played by Fran Kranz.
