With his oaky baritone, Givēon often sounds like he teleported to us from the 1970s. In the rapid-fire internet age, his love songs — frequently lost-love songs — are unhurried. At his best, he’s like a barrel-aged cognac — warm, earthy, and mature. Still, when he rose to prominence at around the age of 25 about five years ago, in a landscape where more modern, edgy alternative R&b dominated, he allowed his steady, soulful production to ride on top of subtle rap drums; across his debut EP, Take Time, and album,...

Early in our Zoom interview, which Givēon takes from a moving vehicle, I ask him point-blank: “Who hurt you?” He’s on his way to California’s Lucerne Valley desert to perform songs from his excellent sophomore album, Beloved. Set on a reflective stage in the sand for a Spotify exclusive, he’ll sing over a string section with violin and cello, three horns, two background singers, drums, guitar, bass, and keyboard — similar to how the album itself was made. With this rich backdrop, Beloved is full of next-generation, old-school heartbreak,...

Did the new Black Mirror episode mortify fans?(Photo Credit –Netflix)
Black Mirror’s latest season has landed like a punch to the gut, leaving longtime fans rattled and in some cases, walking away from Netflix altogether. With the arrival of the seventh season’s opening episode, ‘Common People,’ the internet lit up but not with the usual hype and analysis. Instead, it sparked outrage, discomfort, and a wave of subscription cancellations.

The Writers Guild Of America has advised members not to work on an upcoming drama about a deadly 1982 California avalanche that Martin Scorsese will produce because of the involvement of fellow producer Randall Emmett.

Exclusive: Following Neon’s acquisition of his SXSW title Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Matt Johnson is in pole position to direct the first film out of the live-action Magic: The Gathering universe being assembled by Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment, sources tell Deadline.
The studios declined to comment. We hear they’ve not yet made a formal offer to Johnson, as it’s very early days here, but he is the choice to direct. No word yet on the take on the material, nor who will be scripting. Legendary and Hasbro announced their intention to launch a Magic film and TV universe, kicking off with a feature project, in February.
Marking Hasbro’s first $1 billion brand, Magic: The Gathering is recognized as the world’s first trading card game, having connected with more than 50 million fans of all ages worldwide since 1993. In the game, players take on the role of planeswalkers,...

Exclusive: An Icelandic-Romanian comedy-drama series is set to launch internationally, as European countries continue to combine to get production rolling.
Hot Stuff comes from Reykjavik-based Glassriver and Romania’s Idea Film and is for Icelandic broadcaster SÝN’s Channel 2 (Stöð 2). Paris-based Oble has taken international distribution rights and will begin shopping the show.
The co-production has that distinctly European co-production flavor that underpinned Series Mania a few weeks back. With U.S. money seemingly gone from Euro production, countries are assemblies in intriguing ways to get productions lensing, making an Icelandic-Romania co-pro much more likely. Last month, we revealed details on Series Mania series Torna a Surriento, an Finnish-Italian drama series that Glassriver is working on with Finland’s Whatevergroup Italy’s Viola Films and Norway’s Rein Film.

Exclusive: The Valhalla Murders duo Thordur Palsson and Óttar Nordfjord are creating an Icelandic-Finnish climate disaster miniseries titled Avalanche.
Forged for Iceland’s Síminn and rolling cameras next week, Avalanche stars Elín Hall (Let Me Fall) as Freyja, a meteorologist who returns to her hometown to warn the villagers of an imminent catastrophe. Casting striking similarities between fictional tragic events and today’s climate crisis, the series is aiming to highlight the urgency of heeding scientific warnings.
The series is another example of Scandi outfits coming together to create TV, with Iceland’s Glassriver co-producing with Finland’s Whatevergroup, while Ginny & Georgia outfit Dynamic Television is selling worldwide. Palsson is directing and Nordfjord is writing. The pair were behind The Valhalla Murders, the RÚV police procedural that was picked up by Netflix several years back. Margrét Örnólfsdóttir is co-writer of Avalanche.
Palsson said: “Bringing Avalanche to life is both a creative challenge and a responsibility.

Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai have announced the G3 Reunion Live album, arriving January 31st. The virtuoso guitarists’ extended jam on Cream‘s “Crossroads” can be streamed now.
The live album was captured during the trio’s performance at the The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year as part of the 2024 G3 reunion tour.
Arriving on 4-lp and 2-cd, the live album recreates the actual format of the G3 concerts: each guitarist performing a distinct set before the three virtuosos take the stage together for an all-out jam session.
The first LP features a full set from Vai; the second LP belongs to Eric Johnson; the third LP is Satriani; and the fourth LP (on splatter vinyl) houses the jam session — a medley of “Crossroads,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic,” and a closing rendition of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.”

As the King of the Monsters, Godzilla has proven himself to be extremely powerful, but there have been times when the kaiju has been defeated by humans in the Godzilla movies. Godzilla originally debuted in the 1954 Japanese movie, Godzilla, and has since become a steadfast figure in pop culture, with countless references in international media. The kaiju has appeared in an impressive 38 movies, with each Godzilla movie presenting a different version of the monster throughout its many eras, and the monster has battled multiple foes over the years.
From Ghidorah to Mechagodzilla, Godzilla has won many fights in his movies and has an impressive 42 wins against other kaiju throughout his movies. However, Godzilla has also fought with humans in a number of films, often attacking Japans cities and leaving them devastated. While most would expect the giant monster to prevail every time against such a small enemy, surprisingly, humans have...

Hogwarts Legacy may have subtly set itself up for a trilogy with one strange plot detail. Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest video games of the generation, and a sequel has already been confirmed as a priority for Warner Brothers.
There's no word on when exactly it will be released or what it will even look like, but it will probably be a few years before anything official materializes. At the very least, it seems as though the first Hogwarts Legacy may have some subtle clues to the direction of a sequel.
Hogwarts Fan Has A Theory On Year Five Perhaps A Trilogy Was Planned
Over on Reddit, user potter101833 noted that there's something peculiar about where Hogwarts Legacy begins its story. Unlike Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy chooses to start its protagonist at the wizarding school in year five, over halfway through a student's total tenure at Hogwarts. While...

A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy may be in active development, as suggested by a recent job listing by Avalanche Software. The best-selling game of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy, is rumored to have a sequel in the works despite mixed critical reviews. Despite controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling, the success of Hogwarts Legacy suggests a sequel is likely in the next few years.
If a recent job listing is to be believed, a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in active development seemingly confirming rumors that have swirled for months. 2023 proved to be a massive year for video games with titans like Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom raking in awards for their innovative systems and immersive designs. Having said that, the year's best-selling game didn't even earn a nomination for Game of the Year but that's not stopping plans for a sequel.

The upbeat soundtrack of Sweet Tooth season 3 sets an optimistic tone despite darker themes. The show softens darker elements of the original story to remain accessible to wider audiences. Bright visuals and heartwarming storytelling maintain the show's uplifting spirit even in dark times.
While walking through Gus and Big Man's final adventure to the Great North, Sweet Tooth season 3 features a range of songs that add more intensity to the show's drama and action. Based on Jeff Lemire's comic book series of the same name, Netflix's Sweet Tooth presents an uplifting fantasy drama that draws on the anxieties of the real-world pandemic but balances them themes with themes of hope and resilience. Unlike its predecessors, Sweet Tooth season 3 delves deeper into slightly darker narrative territory but maintains its family-friendly tone.

Protorelic quests in FF7 Rebirth have unique challenges and rewards, but most don't add much to the story. Cosmo Canyon's quest stands out by delving into emotional backstories of Avalanche members. The Cosmo Canyon Protorelic quest should be a model for side quest storytelling in the future.
Protorelic quests might not seem like critical content to play in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but there's one in particular that's well worth completing. As unique objectives that make up a part of the World Intel checklists found throughout the game, Protorelic quests task Cloud and company with tracking down pieces of ancient armor. Although this can lead to unlocking a powerful summon and gear late in the game, anyone uninterested in committing to the long haul could easily decide to ignore all the quests in favor of focusing on the main story.
Unlike most aspects of World Intel, Protorelic quests vary wildly from region to region.

This article contains spoilers for "Invincible."
The initial premise of "Invincible" is what it would be like to be Superman's son and follow in your dad's footsteps. Mark Grayson/Invincible (Steven Yeun) is the son of Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), Earth's greatest superhero and visitor from the planet Viltrum. Unfortunately, Viltrum is a fascist empire and Nolan isn't as benevolent as he appears.
"Invincible" season 1 ended with a clash between father and son. Nolan beat Mark to a pulp but flew off in grief after realizing how human he'd become. A question lingering at the season's end was when Omni-Man would return — pretty soon, it turned out.
"Invincible" season 2, episode 3, "This Missive, This Machination!" features Mark called to the alien planet Thraxa; the cliffhanger ending is him coming face to face with the planet's ruler, Nolan. Episode 4, "It's Been A While," opens with a flashback montage (scored to a...

Guitar virtuoso Sophie Lloyd, known for her huge social media presence and as a member of Machine Gun Kelly’s touring band, will release her debut solo album, Imposter Syndrome, on November 10th. In advance of the LP, Lloyd has unveiled the music video for the title track, which is a rousing metal anthem featuring vocals and lyrics from Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.
The music video features Lloyd showing off her intense guitar chops, while Hale belts out vocals in a fiery presence.
“Working with Lzzy was honestly a dream come true for me,” Lloyd said in a statement. “I’ve been a fan of hers for years growing up, and when I decided to do a collaborative album, her name was the first one that came to mind. She did such an incredible job at taking such a personal thing and making a song that conveys all the emotion I have felt for years.

Gore Verbinski’s The Ring led the first wave of early 2000s horror remakes that partially defined the era’s landscape alongside Saw torture-porners and other reactionary post-9/11 subgenres. Granted, remakes have always been a foundational pillar that keeps horror reinventing itself decade after decade — but the 2000s were different. Production companies like Platinum Dunes and Dark Castle Entertainment fixated on updating horror favorites from iconic slashers to Vincent Price oldies, banking on nostalgia as an added profitability measure. It’s curious though, because 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and others get referenced when conversations think back to what started The Great 2000s Remake Avalanche — The Ring somewhat forgotten in these terms.
That could be because The Ring is based on Hideo Nakata’s Japanese adaptation Ringu (aka Ring), an international ghost story less popular with domestic audiences whose first introduction to Koji Suzuki’s 1991 novel was Verbinski’s Americanization.

Some gaming fans were surprised to hear curse words in Final Fantasy 16, finding it off-putting for a mainline entry in a series that was previously open to an all-ages audience, but the strong language in FF16 is about much more than simple shock value. As the first M-Rated mainline Final Fantasy, the game aimed to deal with heavy subject matter, including slavery and genocide. Characters do not react like fantasy genre archetypes, but as real people would. Times of overwhelming stress, fear, and anger compel many FF16 characters to utter expletives, and this only adds to the impact of the game’s often grim story.
[Warning: This article contains story spoilers for Final Fantasy 16.]
In an early Final Fantasy 16 boss fight that many players experienced in the brutal FF16 demo, a goblin commander calls upon a large troll-like creature called a Gigas for reinforcement, which slams through the walls of a crumbling structure. Clive’s ally Wade instinctively responds with “shit,...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, often abbreviated as FF7 Rebirth, has had its fair share of details revealed, even if the game is expected to only arrive in 2024. So far, as was shown by the promotional material, the game will pick up immediately where the critically-acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake stopped, showing the group of heroes led by Cloud leaving Midgar in search of answers to defeating Sephiroth. Although he was constantly haunting in the first game in the remake trilogy, it seems like Sephiroth’s presence in FF7 Rebirth will be expanded even further.
Unlike the Final Fantasy 7 game from 1997, however, it is expected that a few plot details in FF7 Rebirth are altered, as the remake trilogy seems to be playing with the concept of a remake and pointing toward multiple timelines of existence. It is currently uncertain if the events of the original game will play out exactly...

The advent of blockchain technology has given birth to Web3, an advanced ecosystem that is decentralized in nature. With the rise of smart contracts, Chainlink has managed to become a leader in the field. However, the emergence of newer altcoins, such as Avalanche, has given rise to competition and challenged Chainlink’s dominance.
Big Eyes Coin (Big) is also another emerging player that is introducing innovative features and tools to showcase its potential and compete with established players. As the Web3 ecosystem evolves, it will be interesting to see how these players fare and which ones emerge as top performers in the decentralised space.
Chainlink Faces Competition from Avalanche and Big Eyes Coin in the Web3 Space
Chainlink (Link) is a blockchain abstraction layer that utilises a decentralised Oracle network to connect smart contracts to off-chain data. This feature enables secure interaction with external data feeds, events, and payment methods.

When Gillian Anderson and Elisabeth Moss met virtually to talk about their respective roles as Margaret Thatcher on Netflix’s “The Crown” and June Osborne on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” they discussed the benefits of being on long-running television shows, directing and characters they’d like to play again. Anderson detailed how she’d built Thatcher from the inside out, and Moss mused about how “Handmaid’s” might feel different in the Biden era.
And they discovered that they both had come of age as young actors — and young women — between the ages of 23 and 32 on “The X-Files” (Anderson) and “Mad Men” (Moss), and were delighted by the coincidence.

Digital disruption has created a music business that’s sustained by saturation, producing a culture of abundance blurring into excess. Lengthy albums capitalize on this wholesale demand for more by bloating tracklists, which in turn jacks up streaming numbers. At first glance, Culture III, the latest 19-track offering from superstar rap group Migos, appears to be another overlong playlist disguised as a studio album, much like their underwhelming 2018 release Culture II.
Culture III is not Culture II, though. It’s shorter by 30 minutes, with six fewer songs. But what truly distinguishes the two is mindfulness.

Migos appeared on The Tonight Show to perform a new track, “Avalanche.” The song is the latest single from the Atlanta trio’s forthcoming new album Culture III and features a reference to the Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.”
For the performance, the rap group donned matching suits, sunglasses, and fedoras, and appeared with their live band. It has a slick, throwback vibe, complete with a horn section.

Alex Somers has revealed two solo debut albums — Siblings and Siblings 2 — out March 19th via Krunk.
Ahead of the release, the producer and Jónsi collaborator dropped lead singles from each LP, “Deathbed” and “Sooner.” The tracks are both instrumental, with “Deathbed” containing deep, billowing exhales and “Sooner” taking a lighter cinematic approach.
While making both LPs, Somers was particularly inspired by his score for the 2016 documentary Dawson City: Frozen in Time. “It’s such a poetic story,” he said in a statement “And it’s so in sync with how...

From upside down PlayStation 5s to the global dominance of “Genshin Impact” and the biffed launch of “Cyberpunk 2077,” the year in video games has been as topsy-turvy as the year in, well, every other regard. But for all of the industry’s unpredictability, games kept delivering the goods no matter how grim things got out there; “Hades” would’ve been great even if didn’t feel so close to home, and the “Demon’s Souls” remake would’ve sold us on the promise of the next generation even if the bleak world of Boletaria didn’t unexpectedly turn into an oasis, but even the darkest games gave players a cathartic degree of control at a time when a sense of helplessness became a pandemic unto itself.
