Tony Curtis grew up idolizing the suave and funny Cary Grant, emulated his romantic moves as an actor and then performed a brilliant impersonation of Grant for Billy Wilder. The next step had to be co-starring with the great man himself. Blake Edwards’ amiable, relaxed submarine movie allows Grant to play with ladies’ under-things, while Curtis wrestles with a pig.

"Lockup" is a filler episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but it's fun, and there's plenty of Ghost Rider...
Okay, I’m sold on this Ghost Rider thing. Like many of you when I first heard there would be a major focus on the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider on Agents Of Shield season 4, I thought, “Man, I hope Marvel doesn’t sacrifice too much story time on Ghost Rider’s origins.” I was excited to see the character realised on TV in the mighty Marvel manner, but I didn’t want to see story time taken away from Daisy, Fitz, Simmons, May, and Mack.

On October 17th, you’re going to get a chance to watch something that’s actually pretty brilliant, undeniably fascinating, when Red Bull TV brings you The Horn.
Providing an up close and personal look at those involved in one of the most unbelievable jobs on the planet, The Horn brings you the team of Air Zermatt, the air rescue team in charge of The Matterhorn and the surrounding area. The trailer will give you a glimpse of what’s coming, and you’ll get to hear one of the crew members tell you that they manage some 70+ rescues per year.
But, this isn’t just a standard documentary effort that takes you along for the ride during actual rescues (though I don’t know what “standard” might mean there anyway), because The Horn also gives you a look at the team, and lets you see these heroes “behind the scenes.

No DC Comics reviews for me this week as it seems Rebirth is taking a break (unless you need to go pick up those 2nd printings!-and you should!) So I will focus a little more on Marvel. Rumbles in the rumor community are suggesting Another reboot coming Marvel’s way real soon which promises to change the landscape of the Marvel Universe again! I’m guessing it will be the fallout from this terrible Civil War going on. Remember if there’s a book you want to have checked out, let me know and I will review it!

Following the release in March of ‘A Man Called Gannon’ (1968), Simply Media in the UK continue to release more Universal-International westerns, this time of 1940s and ‘50s vintage. The new releases, out on 18 April, are ‘Calamity Jane & Sam Bass’ (1949), ‘Cattle Drive’ (1951) and ‘Black Horse Canyon’ (1954). This trio of films are literally ‘Horse Operas’, with the accent on thoroughbred steeds and their importance and role in the working west. Be they cattle drovers, stock breeders or outlaws, where would any of them be without the horse? The answer, of course, is walking.
I’ll review the DVDs in the order I watched them. First up is ‘Cattle Drive’, a 1951 western directed by Kurt Neumann. Chester Graham Jnr (Dean Stockwell), the spoilt, arrogant son of railroad magnet Chester Graham Snr (Leon Ames), is accidentally left behind when the train he is travelling on makes a water stop.

We all have predisposed notions about the infamous “romantic comedy.” As with other genres, there’s a large subsection of offerings, giving it a bad name. But, for every tired, cliché-driven comedy, there is another impressive offering that redefines the genre, garners plenty of laughs, and tells an honest story about love and relationships, however warped they may be. In the coming weeks, we’ll take a look at the fifty romantic comedy films that should be seen. These may not all be classic films, but they certainly put a stamp on the industry and the genre we affectionately call “rom-coms.”
#50. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
Most of Wes Anderson’s films could be described as romantic comedies, but his 2012 effort stands out, as its central story focuses on young love and the need to find acceptance. In Anderson’s world, while quirks abound, true connections between characters are commonplace. With Moonrise Kingdom,...

Born in St. Louis on May 27, 1911, iconic actor Vincent Price retained a special fondness for his place of origin, and that love was reciprocated with Vincentennial, a celebration of his 100th birthday in his hometown back in May of 2011 (for summary of all the Vincentennial activities go Here). One of the guests of honor at Vincentennial was Vincent Price’s daughter Victoria Price. Because of their close relationship and her access to his unpublished memoirs and letters, Victoria Price was able to provide a remarkably vivid account of her father’s public and private life in her essential book, Vincent Price, a Daughter’s Biography, originally published in 1999. .In 2011, her biography of her father was out of print. but now it’s been re-issued and Victoria will be in St. Louis this weekend (October 9th – 10th) for three special events. Being the first is not always a good thing. Many ground breaking artists who introduce something new into the cultural mix do not always fare well after they have changed the rules and the game. Take, just as one example, Orson Welles who changed forever how movies were made as well as radio drama and stage productions. Although Welles made out better than Maila Nurmi, also known as Vampira, the subject of the incredible and unforgettable documentary Vampira and Me.
H Greene first got to know Maila Nurmi when he interviewed her for a documentary called Schlock! The Secret History of Hollywood, (a good documentary in its own right.) Nurmi had grown distrustful of just about everyone, and with good reason. Yet for reasons Greene doesn’t even speculate on she trusted Greene and gave him almost two hours of interview time and discussed every last moment of her bizarre,...

20. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Directed by: Terry Gilliam
So…drugs, right? Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s 1971 novel of the same title, Fear and Loathing stars Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, respectively. The pair is heading to Sin City, speeding through the Nevada desert, under the influence of mescaline. From there, the film is series a bizarre hallucinations seen through the eyes of Duke. Throughout the course of the film, Duke and/or Gonzo ingest the following drugs: mescaline, sunshine acid, diethyl ether, LSD, cocaine, and adenochrome (probably more). Duke – who is a Thompson stand-in – is supposed to be writing an article before heading back to Los Angeles, but tends to get sidetracked quite a bit. In...

We're continuing this periodic summer project where we revisit classic sitcom episode. This week we're going waaaay back to the 1950s for one of the most famous television half hours of them all: "Job Switching," from "I Love Lucy" season 2, coming up just as soon as I show you the creases on these silk stockings... "Job Switching," which first aired in 1952, is by far going to be the oldest episode we do in this series (unless "The Honeymooners" magically starts streaming before the summer is out), and I'm going to be very curious for your reactions to it. Ken Levine occasionally will do posts where he asks his readers what they think of vintage sitcom episodes, and the reaction tends to be mixed, and leaning more towards negative among people who didn't grow up in one of the previous peak periods for multi-cam comedy. In terms of sitcoms that have...

Sam Callahan thinks Robbie Williams would make a ''better'' 'X Factor' judge than Gary Barlow. The former contestant - who received weekly criticism from Gary over his mediocre performances in last year's competition - would have preferred his Take That bandmate be part of the show instead. Sam explained to Bang Showbiz: ''Robbie Williams would be pretty cool, he'd be pretty good. I mean he's the opposite to Gary. He's a real showman and entertainer. ''Robbie's been an idol of mine since I was little, he's an absolute entertainer. It's not like watching anyone else. As a judge I think he...

When Sundance announced the films in competition for the 2014 festival yesterday, its organizers noted that they were impressed by the caliber of cinematic artistry — mostly due to technology — that freed up filmmakers to experiment with different genres. No category of the festival is more rooted in genre than Park City at Midnight, the late-night section that specializes in horror and the supernatural, and this year’s slate has several potential breakouts. “The Midnight lineup came together in a way that is about the strongest group we’ve ever had, top to bottom,” says Trevor Groth, Sundance’s director of programming.

Sundance Institute executives announced on December 5 that the festival will feature new work from artist Doug Aitken as well as Klip Collective’s external projections on the Egyptian Theatre.
An expanded New Frontier will showcase installations, performance, transmedia and panel discussion section. Most of the installations will be housed at a new, 5,000-square-foot location at the Gateway in Park City adjacent to Main Street.
Doug Aitken’s The Source (Evolving) will occur at a nearby location along Main Street.
“As human and machine, biological and media experiences blur and hybridise, the distinctions between them are also becoming irrelevant,” said curator of the exhibition and Sundance Film Festival senior programmer Shari Frilot.
“The digital and the organic integrally constitute a new primordial pool. What does creativity and storytelling look like if we revel in this new way of being?”

The 2014 People’s Choice Awards nominations were announced Nov. 5, and with fan-favorites like Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Lucy Hale & Lea Michele all racking up nominations, our heads are spinning!
The People’s Choice Awards has always been one of the stand-out fun awards show offerings, but this year’s ceremony is looking to be a bloodbath. Jared Padalecki vs. Jensen Ackles vs. Stephen Amell vs. Ian Somerhalder vs. Andrew Lincoln? Pretty Little Liars vs. The Walking Dead? (How does one even vote on that?) At least no matter who wins, it’s somebody we like, right? (Wrong. So wrong. This is huge!)
Vampires, Liars, Doctors, and Walkers: The TV Noms
With plenty of viable candidates, the TV nominations are as brutally difficult as ever this year. Some of our favorite categories include “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show,” which has Beauty and the Beast, Once Upon A Time, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries,...

Tonight at 9/8c, the drama picks up right where it left off, with Deeks being brutally tortured for intel on Quinn and Sam’s wife dangling from a window ledge. Director: Alex Chandon. Writers: Alex Chandon and Paul Shrimpton. Cast: Jo Hartley, Seamus O'Neill, James Doherty, James Burrows, Neil Leiper, Chris Waller, Nadine Rose Mulkerrin, Terry Haywood, Damien Lloyd-Davies, Derek Melling, Mark Rathbone and Dominic Brunt. Tagline: "They came in peace...they left in pieces." Inbred is a little indie horror production from the United Kingdom and director Alex Chandon (Cradle of Fear). Chandon brings his years of experience in digital special effects to this title in bloody fashion. Very gory, Inbred is a tale of several youths sent up to the north of England to find reform with two social workers. They find a group of blood-thirsty town folk who need more bodies for their terror filled carnival. Thus, outsiders and locals collide in this horror production, which is filled with hilarious moments of dark comedy. Tim (James Burrows), Zeb (Terry Haywood), Sam (Nadine Mulkerrin) and Dwight (Chris Waller) are the dysfunctional kids.

How good to be back after a long summer gathering nuggets. Venice was interesting – Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master is a mighty piece and Susanne Bier's romcom Love Is All You Need a surprise charmer that, handled right, could be a big hit. But the lack of a British film presence was lamentable - all the Brits have gone to Toronto hoping for distribution deals and Oscar buzz. I'd have thought Joe Wright's Anna Karenina would have been well received there, just as Atonement was in 2007.
Between you and me, I hear the British industry has decreed Venice too expensive now, although I think Shame and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy did pretty well out of it last year. It was left to the...

It would have been impossible for Mark Harmon to have been born anything less than gorgeous. His father was University of Michigan football All-American and Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon. His mother, Elyse Knox, was an actress and artist. With this combination of looks, beauty and brains, he couldn't miss. Thomas Mark Harmon was born September 2, 1951 in Burbank, California. He has two older sisters, actress and painter Kristin Nelson, formerly married to singer Ricky Nelson, and Kelly Harmon, actress-model who was once married to auto magnate John DeLorean. Mark attended Los Angeles Pierce College, then transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles where he became the starting quarterback for the UCLA Bruins football team in 1972 and 1973. He received the National Football Foundation Award for All-Round Excellence in 1973. In his two years as quarterback in coach Pepper Rodger's wishbone offense, UCLA won 17 games and lost only 5. He graduated from UCLA with a B.

One of the most commonly accepted clichés of American television is the family sitcom with the schlubby husband and gorgeous wife. It’s so pervasive that a quick Google search brings up this entry on the topic from TvTropes.org, which features 3,700+ words devoted to live action TV examples alone. Most TV fans look down on this conceit and series that use it, and yes, this sitcom stereotype has a basis in truth, but when did the trend start, and just how common is it? More interestingly, is there a connection between this aspect of a show and its quality or cultural significance? Here are 12 of the best and most influential American network sitcoms, along with a look at how each series plays into, subverts, or ignores the regular Joe/hot wife cliché.

I was determined not to leave my sense of humour at home when I went to see Inbred, a horror comedy that takes aim at my home county of Yorkshire. With an open mind and an open heart I suffered its poor story, amateur acting, unfunny jokes and general cheapness, eventually managing to raise a chuckle and see a glimmer of originality amongst all the pointlessness. It took a lot of effort though.

Witchfinder General will play at the Vincentennial Vincent Price Film Festival in a 35mm print at 7:00pm tonight, Thursday, May 26th at Brown Hall on the campus of Washington University. Admission is free.
It’s likely that Vincent Price never delivered a better performance than the one he gave in Witchfinder General (1968), the fact-based story of infamous witchhunter Matthew Hopkins and the barbaric acts he practiced in mid-17th century England. Price completely jettisoned his usual campy theatrics in favor of an appropriately low-key, sinister, and menacing depiction of a purely evil man who hides behind a mask of religious allegiance. Price plays Hopkins as an unmerciful fiend with a genteel manner and an appetite for torture, especially burning. The movie is cruel in its violence but also intelligent and effective and Price is relatively restrained in a complex role as a man who whose mission is to achieve...
