John Sykes — guitarist for Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, among other bands — has died at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer. The sad news was reported on the veteran musician’s official Facebook page.
The statement read as follows: “It is with great sorrow we share that John Sykes has passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. He will be remembered by many as a man with exceptional musical talent but for those who didn’t know him personally, he was a thoughtful, kind, and charismatic man whose presence lit up the room.”
It continued, “He certainly marched to the beat of his own drum and always pulled for the underdog. In his final days, he spoke of his sincere love and gratitude for his fans who stuck by him through all these years. While the impact of his loss is profound and the mood somber, we...

We got up close and personal with the Nightwing supersuit from DC's Titans!
Dick Grayson might have been the first young ward of Bruce Wayne to take on the mantle of Robin, but that's not his only superhero alter ego. After leaving his role as Batman's famous sidekick, Dick created a new persona all of his own: Nightwing. Ever since Brenton Thwaites took off the domino mask and burnt his iconic red and green suit in the first season of Titans, Dick Grayson fans have been wondering when he'll put on the butt-hugging blue and black that has become synonymous with Nightwing.
Now that we've seen the suit in all its glory during the Titans season 2 finale, we've got all the behind the scenes info on how the striking new super suit was made. At an exclusive event at Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood we got a...

When The CW originally announced its fall schedule, I couldn’t have been the only one who noticed Black Lightning‘s assigned return date was really bringing up the rear when it came to DC-based programming. If you’re unable to recall, Monday, October 21st was set to kickoff season 3.
Well, if you’ve been keeping up with news pertaining to this series and the Arrowverse in general, then you’ve heard about how Black Lightning himself and other select characters yet to be identified (Thunder and Lightning are probably our best bets) will show up during the monumental “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
Perhaps because of this development coming to light, the network has opted to move up the third season premiere by two whole weeks. In other words, expect for new episodes of Black Lightning to begin airing on Monday, October 7th. With Jefferson Pierce now being part of the bigger picture,...

LenDale White says he's sick and tired of Reggie Bush being banned from USC -- and he's calling for the school and the Ncaa to reverse the punishment and allow the Rb back on campus!!! LenDale and Reggie were arguably the greatest running back tandem in USC history -- absolutely dominating as "Thunder and Lightning" during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. But back in 2010, the Ncaa ordered USC to completely disassociate with Bush over Reggie's improper benefits scandal.

On Friday night, the Zombies will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and deservedly so. Few keepsakes of the British Invasion sound as non-musty as “She’s Not There,” their first hit, or “Time of the Season,” their last. Colin Blunstone’s singing, which seems to float above the arrangements, is one reason for their enduring allure, but so is the keyboard playing of Rod Argent. His electric-piano runs on “She’s Not There” and smoky organ on “Time of the Season” have been inspiring air keyboardists for decades.

If Black Lightning is to share anything in common with its DC TV brethren, it’s that the series started out with several built-in superheroes orbiting the titular character. Similar to how the future Speedy in Thea Queen was present in Arrow‘s pilot episode, and how the would be Vibe and Killer Frost did likewise on The Flash, Jefferson Pierce’s two daughters were fated to one day dispense justice on the streets of Freeland.
Now, the beauty of all this is that while we had Black Lightning himself kicking ass right out of the gate, Thunder and Lightning would be given the slow burn when it came to their own development, with Anissa emerging as the former in season 1. Sporting a cool costume of her own, she fully embraced her powers and her destiny as a superhero. Jennifer, however, is just realizing her potential and being somewhat unwilling,...

The CW’s latest DC superhero TV show, Black Lightning isn’t even out yet, but its producers are already airing their hopes that more characters from the DC pantheon will find their way onto the series in the future.
Speaking at the Atx TV Festival in Austin, Texas, co-showrunner Salim Akil talked about his love for the character Static Shock and how much he would like to have him on the show.
“I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in in that way. So I’m holding out hope because I love that character.”
Originally created for Milestone Comics, Static Shock – also known as plain old Static – was later incorporated into the mainline DC universe. The character’s alter ego is Virgil Hawkins, a regular teenager who gains electromagnetic powers in a metahuman-creating event called “The Big Bang.

The CW’s small-screen take on DC Comics superhero Black Lightning has cast British actress Christine Adams in the final lead role of the series, Lynn Stewart. She’ll be joining Cress Williams as the former titular crime-fighter, as well as Nafessa Williams and China Anne McLain as his daughters, Anissa and Jennifer – who will most likely suit up as Thunder and Lightning at some point as the show progresses.
In the comics, Lynn is Jefferson’s ex-wife, though the two maintain a good relationship. It’s not clear if that’ll carry over to the series or not, but we do know this version of the character is described as a woman “who exudes confidence and intelligence. Although she’s got a mischievous side, she’s not one to be trifled with when it comes to family.”

Movie cliches...Where would the film industry be without them? We don't know but we'd like to find out. Everyone recognizes them when they see them. The Extra-large Air Vent:
If the hero is locked in a room by the bad guys, there is a usually a huge air vent in the wall, big enough to crawl through. And better still, the front grill is not screwed into the wall. It can easily be removed with no tools.
Binoculars Views:
When we see point-of-view shot through binoculars in films, we will invariably see that double-o shape, although if you’ve ever looked through real binoculars, you won’t see that.
The Lethal Cough:
Coughing in a film indicates a terminal disease.

Ricky Dillon is no longer making videos with Our2ndLife (because O2L is no longer active), but he still a bustling YouTube career of his own. The vlogger is looking to get into music, and to that end, he has released Rpd, his debut Ep.
Rpd consists of five songs, which are available on iTunes for 99 cents each or $3.99 for all five. Over on his YouTube channel, Dillon has released music videos for two of the songs on his album. A week ago, he debuted a video for "Ignite," and he has followed that up with a video for "Thunder and Lightning."The song itself is a typical pop song with lots of auto-tune, but Dillon ups the ante by inviting a number of his fellow YouTubers--including thatsojack, Alexis Zall, and Joey Gatto--to join him in the video.
Beyond Dillon, two other former O2L members, Kian Lawley and Jc Caylen,...

This is it, y’all. We made it to the mid-season finale! After tonight it will be farewell until after the first of the year. So let’s squeeze ever last insane drop out of “The Akeda,” like a giant shake’n’bake of mythology and history. Abbie and Ichabod have the sword of Methuselah, and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse have Moloch. Who will triumph? ************ Thunder and lightning greet the audience to let us know things are about to Get Real™. Ichabod and Abbie are headed straight to Fredrick’s Manor with the sword, because time is of the essence. Henry has blown the horn to signal the rise of Moloch. I kind of wonder what the range on that thing is? All across the tri-state area, the top news story tonight is about the strange trumpeting sound being reported by hundreds of people. More at 11. Ichabod is giving directions the old-fashioned way,...

Thunder and lightning and a sudden rainstorm couldn’t dampen the spirits of moviegoers as the Toronto Film Festival provided a change of pace Friday night with the world premiere of The Weinstein Company’s October release, St. Vincent. Starring Bill Murray in the best performance of his career and 11-year-old newcomer Jaeden Lieberher in the best kid role of the year, this pure family film (although rated PG-13) is about a young child of divorce who finds a companion in the off-kilter Vietnam vet who lives next door. It’s the rare movie comedy that proves the spirit of Frank Capra lives on. In an era when the entire world seems in chaos, this is a movie that makes you feel good about yourself when you leave the theater. When was the last time that happened?
If ever a movie deserved the phrase, St. Vincent is a film that...

When Thq premiered Metro: Last Light at E3 last year, they raised as many problems with fans of the first as they seemingly solved. Veterans of Metro 2033 applauded the new AI – which no longer schizophrenically alternated between blindly walking past you and telepathically homing in on your position – but also gasped as returning character Artyom went all Arnie and annihilated an entire Reich haus full of fascists with a Gatling gun. Had the atmospheric survival-horror been jettisoned for sub-cod fare?
“What we were keen to show at E3 was that we’d addressed some of the valid criticisms of the first game,” says Huw Beynon, Thq’s Head of Global Communications. “We’re offering more tactile feedback, more effects, and our AI has been completely overhauled, but we want to reassure people that we’ve preserved that player vulnerability – that sense of being outnumbered and outgunned."

After his first, and very popular, top ten for Blogomatic3000 on virus outbreaks in the movies, author and critic Kim Newman is back once again with and all-new Top 10 inspired by the eminent release of the awesome comedy horror Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, which hits stores next week…
The clever joke at the heart of the witty horror comedy Tucker and Dale vs Evil is that college kids who go camping in the backwoods have seen so many movies about degenerate, inbred killer hillbillies they’re terrified even of basically sweet-natured, if ill-groomed folks like the eponymous duo played by Tyler Lebine and Alan Tudyk. In truth, the American cinema hasn’t been especially enlightened in its depiction of the rural poor of the Appalachians and other mountainous backwoods regions, but it hasn’t presented quite as overwhelmingly negative a vision as you might think.

Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham has hinted that the Irish rock band may head back into the recording studio this year for the first time in 28 years. The band's original frontman Phil Lynott died in 1986, three years after the release of their last album Thunder And Lightning, since which the band has continued under various lineups but failed to release any new material. "That's the number one question we're getting from people, are you going to record some new material?" Gorham told Billboard, regarding the band's current lineup. "The fans seem to trust this lineup, and I don't blame them." Gorham admitted that although nothing is set in stone, the band are the closest that they have (more)...

Since the earliest days of American cinema there has been a shadowy counterpart to the commercial mainstream: exploitation movies — pictures whose appeal lies in their sensational treatment and leering promotion of often lurid and prurient material. Pre-1960, when mainstream Hollywood worked within severe restrictions on content, exploitation movies offered audiences titillating glimpses of the deliciously taboo, usually under the guise of being some sort of instructional cautionary against the very subject matter being exploited i.e. sex in “hygiene” movies like The Road to Ruin (1934), drugs in anti-drug movies like Tell Your Children (1936, re-released in the 1960s/70s as camp classic Reefer Madness), and gambling in the anti-vice Gambling with Souls (1936).
By the 1950s, as the studios entered their long post-war decline, downscale producers launched a new vein of exploitation moviemaking, churning out low-budget thrillers (mostly sci fi and horror) aimed squarely at the burgeoning youth audience. Again, the movies were cheap,...

Entertainment Weekly has published an exclusive photo of Chris Hemsworth as the Mighty Thor from this summer's much-anticipated film of the Marvel hero's adventures. As the photo shows, the hammer-wielding Norse god of Thunder and Lightning isn't happy.
The release of the photo seems to be timed in response to photos from both the Spider-Man and Captain America sets being released, and it seems to be keeping interest in the film high. While it doesn't give us much more insight into the film than what we have seen in the trailer and other photos, it does give hope that Kenneth Branagh will be able to bring Thor to life and make him believable in Marvel superhero continuity.
Thor opens in theaters May 6, 2011.
