Actor Richard Harris turned down the lead role of Jim Naboth that in the end was cast with Stacy Keach.
The Sex Pistols' Steve Jones inadvertently appeared in the film in the background of the indoor market scene. He'd been unaware of his appearance until spotted in the finished film by bandmate Paul Cook.
Final film of actor Stephen Boyd according to the British VHS cover but this is likely dependent on various global release dates for a number of Boyd's final appearances in films that launched in 1977.
This British gangland movie has often been compared by writers and the public with such other 1970s British gangster classics as La loi du milieu (1971) and Racket (1980).
Publicity for this picture in Movie 77 No 4 magazine (Australia) reported that Bob Ramsey, who plays the role of Vic's Heavy in the film, was "a real-life ex-gangster, ring pug and body guard" who "served as the contact man for the filmmakers, making arrangements to cut down on harassment and keep everybody unharmed and happy. An unusual job for an unusual motion picture".
