Picked by Entertainment Weekly magazine as one of the "50 Greatest Independent Films" in a special supplement devoted to independent films that was only distributed to subscribers in October 1997.
The film's original title obviously refers to citizens band (CB) radio, which is the subject of the movie. However, towards the end of the film when Floyd goes missing, Blaine rallies all of the people in town, including the antagonists, in order to find him so essentially the "citizens band" together to locate Floyd.
Paul Le Mat and Candy Clark previously appeared together in American Graffiti.
In the scene where Paul Le Mat's character, Spider, destroys the Hustler's CB radio he is wearing a white t-shirt that says "B&M Racing Transmission" on it. His character wore the same t-shirt in Aloha, Bobby and Rose (1975).
