The first episode of Hulu’s Paradise, about a secret service agent assigned to a former U.S. president, ends with a twist of Sugar-esque proportions. It’s a surprise reveal that alters the entire reality of the series, sideswiping it into a whole new genre. The shift isn’t completely successful, though, and Paradise, created by Dan Fogelman, often feels like two or three different shows fighting for control of its eight-episode run.
Agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) lives in the titular suburban neighborhood alongside the man he’s paid to protect, former President Cal Bradford (James Marsden). It’s the sort of place where each day seems just like the one that came before, right up until the fateful morning when Collins arrives at work to discover that Bradford has been brutally murdered.

Just as the Oscar Best Picture race remains wide open as 2024 comes to an end, there’s a similar sense of excitement mounting about the breadth and range of films competing for Best International Feature Film. The submissions process found 85 of the 89 films presented eligible, but the real work starts now, in terms of whittling those down first to a shortlist of 15 and then to the final five.
Perhaps more so than in recent years, the diversity is eye-popping, ranging from action thrillers and personal dramas to intimate documentaries. The cross-section is well represented at Deadline’s Contenders Film: International showcase, which kicks off today beginning at 9 a.m. Pt.

With Resident Alien returning after a switch from Syfy to the USA Network, the upcoming fourth season has the chance to massively improve upon the previous run, all thanks to two key episodes. Although it looked for a while like Resident Alien season 4 might not happen, the Alan Tudyk-led sci-fi dramedy is set to continue. When the Resident Alien cast returns to add to the story, they have a great chance of bringing an excellent arc to life. Resident Alien season 3's ending set up a brilliant plot, and it will hopefully be built upon when the show returns.
Since the show began in 2021, Resident Alien has cultivated a dedicated following. When the first two seasons hit Netflix earlier this year, the fan base grew even more as Syfy prepared to air Resident Alien season 3. The show's third run of episodes greatly differed from the previous two and for more reasons than one.

Production on the third and final season of Good Omens has been underway in Scotland, but Deadline reports that it’s been put on pause. Uh oh. The reason for the pause isn’t clear, but Deadline has heard that there are “discussions about possible production changes.” It’s speculated that this pause is related to the sexual assault allegations made against Good Omens co-creator Neil Gaiman by several women earlier this summer.
The allegations were made in a podcast series released by Tortoise Media titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. Some of the allegations go back decades, with the woman accusing Gaiman of “rough, degrading” sex that was not always consensual. Gaiman has denied the allegations, saying he was “disturbed” by them. Disney also paused a feature film adaptation of Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book earlier this week.

Sometimes the most enjoyable games are some of the simplest – those with light rules and attractive components, and often a fast playtime. Where Doomlings is concerned, most of these things apply – this is a fast-paced, attractive game that kids love (thanks to its cute artwork) and that almost anyone can play. It’s not an overly serious game or one that requires deep thought – but there are strategies to ponder on as you begin to learn the cards and customise your game using the various expansions (five of which are included in the Deluxe Bundle.)
In short, Doomlings is a game about the end of the world. The titular Doomlings are a race of highly adaptable circular creatures who are struggling to survive – but they can’t. The game begins with a card named “The Birth of Life” and ends after three catastrophes are drawn from an era deck that...

Quick Links What Is Trackdown? What Is President Trump's Border Policy? How Does Trackdown Predict Trump's Border Wall Policy?
The phrase "life imitates art" has never rung truer than in an eerily prophetic 1958 episode of the TV western Trackdown. In the show's 30th episode, "The End of the World," a con man named Walter Trump (Lawrence Dobkin) fools naive Texas villagers into believing that the end days are near. To seize power and control the village, Trump warns the locals that a looming existential threat requires the construction of a protective border wall, calling to mind President Donald Trump's infamous Mexican border policy that his 2016 campaign was built on.
In addition to predicting President Trump's border policy, the prescient Trackdown episode is loaded with one shocking premonition after another. As the legally embattled former Potus runs for re-election in 2024, the U.S./Mexican border issue will inevitably be raised,...

Ariana Grande’s seventh album begins with a question she spends the rest of the album trying to answer: “How can I tell if I’m in the right relationship?” Five years ago, on her landmark album on Thank U, Next, it seemed certain that she would have that question figured out by now; in the bridge of that album’s title track, she sang about hoping that when she would eventually walk down the aisle it would be her first and last time.

Amazon has renewed the popular fantasy comedy series Good Omens for a third and final season.
Michael Sheen and David Tennant star in the adaptation of the best-selling novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Sheen plays Aziraphale, a fussy angel. Tennant is Crowley a fast-living demon. After millennia of working on opposite sides in the war between good and evil, the pair become close friends and allies.
Gaiman said the final season will “finish the story” he and the late Pratchett first plotted out back in 1989 and 2006. “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end,” says Gaiman. “Season one was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less...

The end of the world is really coming this time: “Good Omens” has been renewed for a third and final season at Amazon.
Created by Neil Gaiman and based on the novel co-written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, “Good Omens” follows the friendship between the fussy angel and rare-book dealer Aziraphale and fast-living demon Crowley, a pair of apocalypse-fighting, millennia-long best friends played by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, respectively.
The first season of the series debuted on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2019. At the time, it was intended as a limited series. But the show was renewed for a second season in 2021, which is when Gaiman revealed he had hatched the idea for a sequel with Pratchett before his death in 2015.
The second season debuted in July — amid the now-ended writers and actors strikes — and ended on a massive cliffhanger that suggested Gaiman had more planned before this heavenly tale was done.

The album is dedicated to frontman John Lydon’s late wife, Nora Forster, who passed away on April 5th at the age of 80. Among its 13 tracks is “Hawaii,” which Lydon wrote as a “love letter” to Forster and later performed it in a bid to represent Ireland in Eurovision.
To coincide with today’s announcement, PiL have released another teaser track, “Penge,” which Lydon describes as “something of a mediaeval Viking epic.”
PiL have also announced an extensive UK/European tour that’s set to kick off in September. Tickets are available here.

First let me say to the esteemed jury of the 69th Cannes Film Festival, picking Ken Loach’s moving and vital I, Daniel Blake, about a carpenter fighting to retain his benefits after losing his livelihood because of a debilitating health crisis, was an inspired choice — especially for a film that came so early in the festival and could have been forgotten or had its impact lessened by the tsunami of other contenders that followed. The emotional impact of the movie, which left many in tears, could not be denied, and it wasn’t.
Loach, who turns 80 on June 17, is now deservedly a two-time Palme d’Or winner, coming back after saying his last film at Cannes, 2014’s Jimmy’s Hall, would indeed be his last, and then making something as powerful and timely as this movie. And congratulations to IFC and Jonathan Sehring who now have U.S. distribution rights for the film,...

“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson has joined Seth Rogen (“50/50,” “Knocked Up”) and Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut “End of the World,” an apocalyptic comedy. The kicker? She’ll be playing herself. The “End of the World” centers on Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, all playing themselves, stuck in Franco’s Los Angeles apartment during the apocalypse. The movie is based on a short film also starring Rogen and Baruchel dealing with the world’s demise.Watson joins a slew of other actors, not just those in this film, who appear in projects as themselves. Celebrities and Hollywood stars playing themselves often provide a tongue-in-cheek portrayal that pokes fun at their “real life” character. We love that we’re far enough from the white-hot popularity of Uggs and Juicy Couture sweat suits for the combination of the two to signify a very, very particular kind of person. We love it so much. We also love the spoiled bad girl steez Emma Watson will apparently be rocking as a bougie thief in Sophia Coppola‘s upcoming The Bling Ring. “Twitterers meet Nicki, Nicki meet twitterers : ),” the Perks of Being A Wallflower actress tweeted today, along with a snapshot of her fictional alter ego. We’re pretty sure…no…we’re positive we went to high school with Nicki…during which she nicknamed us “Dumptruck” and subjected us to a strict regimen of swirlies. Yeah, we’re pretty sure everyone went to high school with Nicki.

Emma Watson, Jason Segel and David Krumholtz to play themselves in End of the World. THR reports the actors are in talks to join the directorial debut of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. You may recall that the film is based on the short called Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse that featured Rogen and Jay Baruchel trying to survive the apocalypse in their apartment during the end of the world.
The feature story has now added James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, as themselves stuck in Franco’s Los Angeles apartment during the apocalypse. The script reportedly "has fun with the actors, who might or might not make it out alive." I loved the trailer for the short, and am loving the cast so far. Who do you think will survive the apocalypse?

Emma Watson, Jason Segel and David Krumholtz have joined the fast-growing cast of "The End of the World," Seth Rogen's apocalypse comedy that already features James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson and maybe even Rihanna. Per THR, like those actors, Watson, Segel and Krumholtz will play variations of themselves in the new film. (According to Variety, Michael Cera might join up as well.)
Based on the short "Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse," "End of the World" is about what happens to some of your favorite Hollywood celebrities when the apocalypse strikes. The action will reportedly take place during a party at James Franco's apartment, which could account for why stars like Watson and Rihanna would be hanging out with Team Apatow during end times. Cheekily, THR claims that not all the famous faces will "make it out alive," which jibes with what co-star...

• One of the most unusual projects in Hollywood just got even more interesting: Harry Potter star Emma Watson is in talks to play herself in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s meta disaster comedy End of the World (formerly The Apocalypse), and Jason Segel and David Krumholtz have formally joined the film. The premise: James Franco throws a party at his house for a laundry list of upstart movie stars — Rogen, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel — when the apocalypse hits. Rogen and Goldberg will make their feature directorial debut on the project. [THR]

We’ve known for a few months now that Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg plan to turn comedy trailer Jay & Seth Vs. The Apocalypse into a full-fledged disaster / horror / comedy. With the film now titled End Of The World, the trio is adding yet more names to an already bulging cast, with Emma Watson, Jason Segel and David Krumholtz all agreeing to cameo as themselves. As you might suspect from the title, the film’s basic concept has Rogen and Baruchel playing themselves, holed up in a damaged apartment as the world crumbles around them. The cast also boasts pals James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, all playing themselves and all stuck at Franco’s place, which we figure will become uncomfortable quickly. Word is that not everyone will survive to the end…Segel and Rogen are, of course, old pals and regular Judd Apatow...

The Divide (Xavier Gens, 2011)
To start off with, I need to say that whoever cut the trailer for Xavier Gens’s The Divide should get some kind of award. That damned trailer had me counting the minutes for this flick to hit the shelves. I can’t remember the last time that a trailer affected me like that.
Normally I see a trailer for a movie that I already know a little bit about, but in this case, I’d never even heard of The Divide and clicked on the trailer when it popped up online just because I’m a long time Michael Biehn fan. That damned trailer just filled me with dread and promised me a film that would disturb, upset, and destroy me.
Jump ahead a few months and I find myself eagerly hitting ‘play’ on the DVD. Yup, the first few minutes are disturbing,...

One week till the End of the World!
Hold on, amigo. Before you donate the contents of your bank account to Bart Simpson’s favorite charity, tell your boss where he can stick that twelve-dollar raise he gave you, and go sky-diving off Mount Rushmore–get a grip on yourself!
It’s not really the end of the world. Not the end of the real world, I mean. It’s only the end of the world in Aztlan: The Last Sun, the first in my brand-new series of 21st-century Aztec murder mysteries– available now as an e-book from Amazon.
Imagine if Cortes never conquered Monteczuma. Imagine if the Aztecs expanded their empire from Tierra Del Fuego to Baffin Bay. Imagine if 2012 rolled around and that empire was plagued by a series of grisly murders that recalled the human sacrifices of ancient days?
No need to keep on imagining. It’s...

Editor’s Note: Because reviewing a game that encourages continuous play, and which will only ever really be “complete” on each gamer’s own terms, we’re taking a slightly different tract with our review. You will have read quite a few, if you go in for that sort of thing, and most will have said it’s One Of The Best Games Ever!!!!!! But hyperbole is a cruel mistress that can creep on unsuspecting journalists and gamers who don’t give themselves enough time to feel the full effects of their subject. “So, this is the beginning of the End of the World?”
Ninja Gaiden 3 is almost here, the latest in the Ryu Hayabusa saga since the series’ relaunch in 2004. This game takes a slightly different direction than its predecessors. Now the infamous Dragon Sword has become one with Ryu. As Ryu takes down his opponents, he also suffers the fury of the sword.
In this trailer, you’ll get to see just what that means. Watch his right arm. It looks as though it’s heavily burned, but the “scarred” skin is really the pain inflicted by the Dragon Sword. It’s as though the Dragon Sword is infecting his arm with its own demon.
Ninja Gaiden 3 hits Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 20, 2012.

Last week, we got a good look at the characters of Ice Age: Continental Drift. Today, we have a trailer for the fourth Ice Age movie, which has the characters set off on an adventure at sea, which includes battling pirates (the furry kind). Based on the trailer, the shifting of the continents may actually be the result of yet another acorn-related mishap involving Scrat, the saber-tooth squirrel. Go figure! Either that, or Sid.s indigestion is to blame. The trailer below, courtesy of iTunes, shows the aftermath of Scrat.s acorn incident, and how it sets Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) on an all new adventure.
