    unwatchable

A spinoff that sank faster than the towers of Babel.

Just a poor attempt to try to milk off Sanford and Son with the obnoxious "aunt" Ester. She was useless without Sanford. Its like land without air. Trees without soil or bees without honey.

What can be learned? Spin-offs have a low success rate.

    Verdict: FAIL!

    A Wasted Effort

Sanford Arms had nothing to do with Sanford and Son, other than some new characters were now living in the Sanford house and running the apartment building next door. Teddy Wilson, who had roles on That's My Mama and Good Times, was the new owner of the house, and he stayed there with his daughter. Aunt Esther, Grady and Bubba were still around, but they were the only connection to the old show.

Spin-off hell, T.V. shows begat from successful shows.

Sanford Arms (1977) was a spin-off from the highly successful Sanford and Son. Instead of kow-towing to the demands of the star Redd Foxx and not offering the salary that Demond Wilson deserved for carrying the show, the producers in their infinite wisdom decided to change the format of the show. A single father and his children become the new owner and residents of the Sanford Arms Hotel, a boarding house that was owned by Fred Sanford and managed by Aunt Esther. Despite the appearances of the latter series guest stars, the show never was a ratings winner and it died after the first four episodes. Next time the producers should open up their check books instead of pulling the purse strings.

Lame attempt to keep a successful series on the air.

    Not recommended.

    a truly miserable mess.

I totally agree with john daniels, this has got be to be one of the most predicable boring idiotic spinoffs i have ever seen, what in the hell was lawanda page (she is totally wasted here)and the rest of the cast thinking off replacing the late redd foxx an demond wilson, this version is truly idiotic and godawful, the jokes are not there, the teleplay is stupid and the characters are just plain boring, this is just an idiotic tired old vehicle.

One of the worst tv shows ever made.

    Verdict: a big failure.
