In A Novel Noel, Hallmark follows its usual holiday recipe with a twist: Julie Gonzalo plays Harper Stevens, a burned-out book editor from New York who moves to the cute little town of St. Ives, Maine, to find peace.
Sawyer Lambert, played by Brendan Penny, is the quiet boss of a family bookstore that is also going through some tough times. Their dynamic—annoying yet alluring—anchors a story about romance, self-discovery, and the quiet rituals of Christmas.
But this isn’t just a holiday romance; it’s also a thought-provoking look at burnout and the pain of unfulfilled dreams. Harper’s trip to St. Ives is a real attempt to find fire again through simplicity, while Sawyer struggles between his creative potential and his duty to his family.
The film asks us to think about how slowing down might help us see the roads we’ve missed, even if...

Horror was so prevalent and popular in the early ‘80s that even the action genre wanted in on the…uh, action. Chuck Norris haiyah’ed a Michael Myers wannabe in Silent Rage (1982), so next up it was granite faced Charles Bronson’s turn to take on slashers with 10 to Midnight (1983), a sleazy yet fascinating trip through the mind of a serial killer. While it’s never as deep as it thinks it is, it’s smarter than it has any right to be.
Released in March, this Cannon production, co-distributed by MGM, recouped its 4.5 million plus a few million more at the box office. Certainly not Death Wish numbers, but it’s not really a Death Wish type of film (until it is). As for the critics, Mr. Ebert called it “a scummy little sewer of a movie”. He’s not completely right, though; the misogynistic male gaze is upended...

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I can often spend hours upon hours trawling through iTunes looking for new movies to buy… Usually I’ll randomly come across a title I haven’t seen in years and use the “Cast & Crew” links to make my way down the rabbit hole to the more obscure side of Apple’s digital movie service.
Now whilst many will decry that iTunes is a terrible VOD service due to Apple’s desire to lock its audience to their platforms, if you have an Apple TV or iPad be aware – there are some truly obscure films hidden away in the depths of the vast collection of movies. Some of which have been made available in the UK for the first time since VHS and a Lot that have been added to the service in their original uncut form!

Now that Riverdale season one has ended and we eagerly await season two, the show’s stars are making their mark on the style world. Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes landed their first fashion campaign — together! — for Bongo, and the cast just glammed it up the red carpet at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards. Lili jetted straight from the awards to N.Y.C. to visit the St. Ives Mixing Bar to blend up her own face scrub (and you can too, until September 30), and to talk what’s new with her character Betty in season two, how she likes to unwind in her downtime,...

JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers got engaged last year on The Bachelorette, but they’re in no rush to walk down the aisle — yet. “We have not set a wedding date,” Fletcher told People at the St. Ives Mixing Bar in N.Y.C. “It’s still obviously something that we are going to do, and we are still committed in that way, but we’re just enjoying this time together.”
Although Rodgers said in December that they were “still planning on next year,” he added that they were “taking our time,” a sentiment that Fletcher continues to echo. “I...

A year ago, JoJo Fletcher was searching for love on The Bachelorette, where she met fiancé Jordan Rodgers — and America fell for both her and her cool-girl style. Fast forward roughly 365 days, and the couple is living in Dallas, traveling around the country for TV appearances and still as in love as ever (which, apparently, has only made JoJo’s hair longer and prettier). We caught up with JoJo at the St. Ives Mixing Bar in N.Y.C., where shoppers can make custom scrubs and body lotions through September 30, to talk all about her skincare and beauty secrets, as...

If you are a devotee of St. Ives Apricot Scrub, you may be wondering if you should switch to another face wash now that it’s the subject of a class action lawsuit.
Many people love the old-school scrub (it’s been around for nearly three decades) for its ability to slough off dead skin cells, and create a deep-clean feel. But two plaintiffs are suing the product’s parent company, Unilever United States Inc., claiming that the scrub’s exfoliating ingredients, including crushed walnut shells, are too abrasive and can actually damage skin, Top Class Actions reports.

St. Ives packs its Apricot Scrub with crushed walnut shells that can tear up your face, and leave you wrinkled with acne ... according to 2 women gunning for the skin treatment. In a lawsuit the women filed, they say the supposed exfoliating facial scrub feels like sandpaper to the skin, with similar results. To back up their claim, they say dermatology research warns walnut shells to the face can cause inflammation leading to breakouts, and accelerated aging.

Charles Bronson was 55 at the time of “St Ives” (1976). He was just a couple years past his star-making turn in “Death Wish”, and was enjoying a surprising run of success. I say surprising because Bronson had, after all, been little more than a craggy second banana for most of his career. Now, inexplicably, he had box office clout as a leading man. In fact, Bronson reigned unchallenged for a few years as the most popular male actor in international markets. Yes, even bigger than Eastwood, Newman, Reynolds, Redford, or any other 1970s star you can name. Many of Bronson’s movies were partly financed by foreign investors, for even if his movies didn’t score stateside, they still drew buckets of money in Prague or Madrid. Some have suggested that his popularity on foreign screens was due to how little he said in his movies (there was...

As the strong sales of Camp Takota proved, Grace Helbig has a dedicated online following, and that makes her a valuable spokeswoman. Helbig, who is one of YouTube's top vloggers, has starred in a branded video for skincare brand St. Ives. In the video, Helbig is crowned the Queen of St. Ives and frolics about in a magical world filled with lotion waterfalls. It is St. Ives' first YouTube video, and his has received universal praise; at the time of this post, it has received 13,571 likes and just 40 dislikes. The video is a textbook example of branded content on YouTube. It allows Helbig to unleash her goofy personality without forcing her to shill for the lotion she is advertising. Helbig, not St Ives, remains the star throughout the whole video, thus allowing viewers to feel comfortable and positive about her role as spokeswoman. St. Ives and ad agency Arnold...

The poster screamed: “Most criminals answer to the law. The world’s most savage executioner must answer to Bronson.” Since the late 1960s, Charles Bronson’s name on a marquee was a guarantee of unchained action. When The Evil That Men Do opened in 1984, fans were hit with the expected violence─but this time they were also assaulted with thick layers of sadism, sleaze and depravity. And they loved it.
Born in 1921, Charles Bronson (originally Bunchinsky) was a dirt-poor Pennsylvania coal miner before he was drafted and later used the GI Bill to study acting. After dozens of small roles, he became a popular supporting player in hit films like The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Great Escape (1963)─then went overseas to star in European pictures like Farewell, Friend (1967), Once Upon a Time in the West (1967) and Rider on the Rain (1970). Kids do the darndest things! They repeat a swear word that they learned from—uh oh! —you. They convince their little siblings that they were adopted. They rack up over a thousand dollars worth of charges on iPad games. Oopsies! That's what one U.K. father experienced when his 6-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, charged $1587.14 (£979.90) worth of in-app purchases while playing games on his iPad in just two days (H/T Jezebel). The most shocking revelation in this story is that the twins didn't drop that cash on Candy Crush. I think everyone remembers where they were August 31st, 2003 when they heard that Charles Bronson had died. I was visiting my brother in Atlanta when my nephew knocked on my door and informed me that CNN had announced his death. I collapsed into a sobbing heap. Bronson was my hero, my muse, my role model. Hollywood’s brightest star would shine no more. It’s hard to believe he’s been gone ten years.
Charles Bronson was the unlikeliest of movie stars. Of all the leading men in the history of Hollywood, Charles Bronson had the least range as an actor. He rarely emoted or even changed his expression, and when he did speak, his voice was a reedy whisper. But Charles Bronson could coast on presence, charisma, and silent brooding menace like no one’s business and he wound up the world’s most bankable movie star throughout most of the 1970’s.

Tovar was born in 1910 in the city of Oaxaca, the capital of the Mexican state of the same name. In an interview with author Michael G. You could say whatever you felt. We had music on the set all the time. It was absolutely wonderful." Unfortunately for Tovar, whose English was quite poor,...

James P. Blaylock's The Aylesford Skull releases on January 25, 2013. Fans will be able to jump into this 440-page science fiction novel soon, and we recently sat down with the author himself to give readers a more in-depth look into the Steampunk adventure to come.

In 1976 Italian movie mogul Dino De Laurentiis unleashed his heavily promoted King Kong to eager audiences. Though a modest success, the remake was trashed by critics and, especially in light of Peter Jackson’s 2005 version, has aged horribly. The next year De Laurentiis released another monster movie, The White Buffalo which critics pounced on as well and this time, even though it starred box-office champ Charles Bronson, audiences stayed away. But the years have been much kinder to The White Buffalo, a weird, offbeat western/monster hybrid that uses real historical figures for a unique riff on Moby Dick. It’s an unusual movie, ripe for rediscovery. I had written about it a couple of years ago in my Not available on DVD column and it’s now available as part of the MGM Limited Edition Collection

London, Aug 25: Women spend more than three hours on an average getting dolled up before going out, a new survey has revealed.
A recent study by St. Ives revealed that women spend 43 weeks of their entire lives applying makeup and perfecting their faces.
While the average women may spend 91 hours a year getting her face in order, at least a third admitted that we wished we could cut the time spend fussing around with makeup.
However, despite recognising.

Stars: Kerwin Mathews, Judi Meredith, Torin Thatcher, Walter Burke, Don Beddoe, Barry Kelley, Dayton Lummis | Written by Nathan Juran, Orville H. Hampton | Directed by Nathan Juran
Every now and then you get a film with a title so cool you just know it’ll never live up to all of the spectacular scenes your mind has just concocted upon seeing the painted DVD cover. It’s largely the fate of ’70s B-movies like Blacula and The Thing With Two Heads which relied on exploitative posters and gimmicky concepts to reel their audiences in, but occasionally you’ll get a couple from the mainstream.
Jack The Giant Killer, alas, is one such movie. A slight and inoffensive 1962 fantasy adventure produced in the heyday of the classic Ray Harryhausen claymation monster movies like Jason and the Argonauts, the film has an interesting set-up (boy saves princess from giant,...

Russell Albion “Russ” Meyer was born in California in 1922 and spent WWII as a combat photographer. In 1953 Playboy magazine debuted and Meyer was one of its first centerfold photographers. Meyer had a knack, and a passion, for photographing gorgeous, busty women and felt that the gals in the nudist camp movies that were popular in the ’50s were far too plain-looking for his tastes. In 1959, Meyer scraped together $24,000 and made The Immoral Mr. Teas, a quaint, colorful, and cartoonish movie about a nerdy fellow whose life is constantly interrupted by beautiful large-breasted women in various stages of undress. There was no sex in Meyer’s film and he made no pretense of presenting nudity as a lifestyle choice,...

Joss Whedon says out wait for a new Dr. Horrible is almost over. They have a number of songs written, and an entire outline done. Now it's down to scheduling, which Neil Patrick Harris is the complicated part of, but they think this summer should allow them to film. Neil's latest question is how long they'd need.
Steve Levitan says that even if it was an option, he wouldn't take Modern Family to cable with a shorter season because the kids are growing up so fast. “They’re growing. We tried to stop it and it’s not working. For that reason alone, we want to get as many stories in as we can while they’re going through these years. So we’re going to try to maintain this pace for as long as we can.” Added Levitan: “The greatest stories we hear are from gay teens that never...

Bronson Estate Suing Over Unpaid Movie Profits
The executors of Charles Bronson's estate are taking legal action against studio bosses at Warner Bros. and MGM over allegations of unpaid profits.
Representatives for the legendary The Great Escape actor filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, claiming the Bronson estate is owed money from the Warner Bros. film St. Ives and the MGM-produced Telefon in 1976.
Larry Martindale, a trustee for Bronson's estate, claims the star was promised a 10 to 15 per cent cut of "gross receipts" and "gross film rentals" from both movie contracts, but alleges the full payments have yet to be made, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Estate executors blame studio executives for "not fairly allocating revenue generated from television sales and only reporting 20 per cent of the gross receipts for home video and DVD sales".
Bronson's representatives are seeking unspecified damages for charges including breach of contract, unjust enrichment, fraudulent misrepresentation and unfair business practices.
Bronson died in 2003.

Charles Bronson isn't done raising hell and demanding justice. Or at least his estate isn't. The Bronson Marital Trust and the Bronson Survivor's Trust filed suit against Warner Bros. Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, alleging breach of written contract, unjust enrichment, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation and unfair business practices, according to court papers obtained by TheWrap. The suit stems from the Bronson movies "St. Ives" and "Telefon" -- "two of his lesser known films," according to the suit -- which were released in 1976 and 1977, respectively. According...

Less a costume movie and more a fashion one, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) is typical of its celebrated naughty director Russ Meyer in all the best possible ways.
Meyer fills the screen with a beautiful cast in cute outfits and expects us to take it all seriously. Thing is, he actually has something serious to say. Emphatically not a sequel to Valley of the Dolls made in 1967 (although that was its original intention), this softcore send-up was filmed soon after the tragic murder of actress Sharon Tate – star of Valley of the Dolls. Here Myer admonishes not only the perils of fame itself, but of believing it.
Bursting with hedonistic fun before a shockingly violent conclusion, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is simply alive with colourful sixties outfits. Mainly designed by David Hayes (as ‘De Graff of California’), it does help that his ensembles are worn by...

Ahoy, me hearties and shiver me timbers because Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is currently on location in Hawaii doing a bit of filming for our viewing pleasure in 2011. Rob Marshall has taken over the ship’s wheel but Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Disney put out word and an official synopsis:
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise -this time in Disney Digital 3D(Tm). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrowcrosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love-or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane...

Charles Bronson was the unlikeliest of movie stars. Of all the leading men in the history of Hollywood, Charles Bronson had the least range as an actor. He rarely emoted or even changed his expression, and when he did speak, his voice was a reedy whisper. But Charles Bronson could coast on presence, charisma, and silent brooding menace like no one.s business and he wound up the world’s most bankable movie star throughout most of the 1970’s. Bronson did not rise quickly in the Hollywood ranks. His film debut was in 1951 and he spent the next two decades as a solid character actor with a rugged face, muscular physique and everyman ethnicity that kept him busy in supporting roles as indians, convicts, cowboys, boxers, and gangsters. It wasn’t until he was in his late 40’s, after the international success of Once Upon A Time In The West...

Well shiver me timbers, me hearties! This news via Variety is about as shocking as finding out James Cameron likes science fiction. Disney have announced the fourth-coming Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides will be shot and exhibited in 3D. It seems every day now a new production is announcing its intention to be 3D. When will it stop becoming a reportable issue and the industry norm?
Chicago’s Rob Marshall is directing and joining the cast is Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane. Early plot points have it Captain Jack Sparrow is searching for the Fountain of Youth and meets infamous pirate Blackbeard (McShane) along the way. Last month Disney chopped the budget from $300 million dollars to around half with all kinds of big action set-pieces having to walk the plank. Looks like there wasn’t enough doubloons to go around.
Filming begins next month in Hawaii and reportedly St. Ives,...

It doesn’t look like plain sailing any more for Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of buccaneers. Disney honcho Rich Ross has handed out $200 million dollars for the Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides, and told the producers to make do. Gore Verbinski got $300 million to spend on At World’s End alone. Tough times calls for tough decisions! Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has told the L.A. Times:
“The hard thing is you have to make painful decisions that cut into some very entertaining sequences.”
What does mean for the proposed shoot in St. Ives, Cornwall? That’s what I want to know! Facing the butcher’s/producer’s cleaver is the effects department and a big sequence set on the Thames, apparently. Could Rich Ross be doing the production a favour and saying, “be creative with the $200 million that you’ve got!” After all, the mega-sequels: Dead...

It was announced at the start of the year Penelope Cruz was joining up with her Nine director, Rob Marshall, for some adventures on the high seas (and St. Ives) in Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides (that’ll be the St. Ives part). News emerged today via MTV that Cruz will be shivering many timbers as Blackbeard’s daughter. So yeah, she’s a love interest for Captain Jack. Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed as much:
“She brings a lot of humor to it.”
Before going on to announce there’s:
“A little romance between Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays.”
And who will be playing Blackbeard himself? Well, that would be ace British actor and former Lovejoy star, Ian McShane. But wait, there’s more! Vague rumours are drifting close…like a phantom sea mist…could Geoffrey Rush’s character, Barbossa, be returning for more cutlass action?...

Cornwall is one of my favourite places in the whole wide world. It’s seriously cinematic-looking too. Only recently as last October did I find myself walking through the muddy fields around Zennor searching for the fabled home of author D.H. Lawrence. According to the Guardian newspaper, there are plans afoot to shoot parts of Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides in St. Ives, Cornwall. What? Well, pirating and bootlegging are synonymous with the county. So will it be “yo ho ho and a bottle of rum…and a Cornish pasty, please?”
There’s the fact, too, that the tourism industry there will be given a massive boost if Jerry Bruckheimer’s production sets up camp in town during the summer. The film is filming in Hawaii too. Can this news be taken seriously at all? Maybe Captain Jack will have a run in with some Cornish separatists? (little...
