Lynne Littman's Academy Award-winning "Number Our Days" looks at a community of elderly Jews in southern California. They might not have much, but they have each other. One scene mentions that a number of apartment buildings have gotten demolished and replaced with other things. And this was in 1976! Think how bad it's gotten since then!
Anyway, it's a good look at what is almost certainly a disappeared community. It ranges from humorous to bittersweet. Lynne Littman has directed a handful of works since then, while Barbara Myerhoff died of lung cancer in 1985.

I am wanting to know where I can purchase the documentary film at? I have searched all over the internet as well and i have been unsuccessful. Please contact me Shellybean2891@aol.com to let me know where i can buy it. We are reading this for a class in college and I would like to see the film as well since it might make it easier to make more sense of the book. The book has some grammar issues and I think it would make it easier to watch the documentary. Please get a hold of me as soon as possible so that I can make more sense of the book. i am really hoping to purchase this within the next few days so the sooner the better would be great if anyone can help me out on my search for this title.

This 30 minute documentary changed my view of the older generation. It shows how these people fight for their individuality and respect. This video should be seen after the book by the same title is read. The author shows much insight into these people's lives.
Wonderful, wonderful!

The film is excellent and is one of the best documentaries I have seen. Unfortunately, its hard to get access of this film because it is generally available in academic institutions. I doubt that you'll find this film at the local video rental store. If you get the chance to see it, please do. You won't regret it. Myerhoff and Littman work well together. Their best quality is giving the people in the film dignity and compassion. The emotional content is high so keep a kleenex or two aside.
