Rosanna Norton, who was Oscar-nominated for costume design for 1982’s “Tron” and designed Sissy Spacek’s iconic prom dress for “Carrie,” died of cancer May 7 in Los Angeles. She was 80.

Her early costume design credits include Terrence Malick’s “Badlands” and Brian de Palma’s “Carrie” and “Phantom of the Paradise.”

“We had no money,” she recalled in a video interview about “Carrie.” She found many of the prom outfits in a store in the Valley that was going out of business, she said. But she had Carrie’s simple pale pink satin dress custom-made by a seamstress after changing the color from the original red in the book to create a more striking contrast with the blood that is splashed on Spacek.

Patton is best known as a core member of the viral sketch group Almost Friday TV, whose videos have amassed over 154 million views on YouTube, where they have over 672K subscribers. The group also commands a large following on social — with more than 500K followers on Instagram and 637K on TikTok — and recently launched a nationwide live sketch tour. Additionally, Patton is a member of the Sunday Company at The Groundlings, the iconic improv and sketch comedy theatre that helped launch the careers of stars like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy.

The Palisades Fire has engulfed Palisades Charter High School, a school that has long been a popular location for Hollywood productions.

NBC Los Angeles reported on Tuesday night that the fire spread through several structures at the Pchs campus, and had all but destroyed the adjacent Theater Palisades.

Earlier in the day, Pchs posted a note on its website that the school was closed due to the Palisades Fire.

As the fires continued to rage, California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, and nearly 30,000 people have been ordered to evacuate.

Pchs is a popular location for Hollywood productions. The school has featured prominently in films, most notably Brian De Palma’s 1976 horror classic Carrie, where it was dubbed Bates High School in the movie. Plenty of bananas and a gruesomely gorgeous wedding cake get praise in musical moments in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!

Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.

Piper Laurie, the three-time Oscar nominee whose seven decade acting career included iconic roles in “The Hustler” and “Carrie,” has died at the age of 91. The news was confirmed to IndieWire by Laurie’s ex-husband, critic Joe Morganstern.

Born Rosetta Jacobs in Detroit, Michigan in 1932, Laurie changed her name after moving to Hollywood and signing with Universal Pictures in 1949. She enjoyed early success in films like the Ronald Reagan-led “Louisa,” but soon moved to New York to focus on developing her acting craft on stage. Almost since he became a best-selling author, Stephen King has seen his work adapted for the movies and television.

Just two years after his first novel, 1974’s Carrie, was published, a film version directed by Brian De Palma was a massive hit, earning Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. The floodgates opened after that, with a TV miniseries based on his second novel, ‘Salem’s Lot (1979), Stanley Kubrick’s high-profile film of The Shining (1980), Creepshow (1982), Cujo (1983), The Dead Zone (1983), Christine (1983), Children of the Corn (1984), Firestarter (1984), Silver Bullet (1985), and many more coming quickly during the next few years.

King adaptations continued well into the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, although the quality began to trail off and many were either quickie cash-ins, direct-to-video clunkers or both. There were high points, of course: Pet Sematary (1989), Misery (1990), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), the TV miniseries of The Stand (1994), Dolores Claiborne (1995), 1408 (2007), and The Mist (2007) are all standouts.

As one of the most heavily adapted authors on the planet, it isn’t surprising that the quality of the many movies and TV shows based on the works of Stephen King have been wildly inconsistent over the decades. For every Carrie, The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me or The Shining there’s a Dreamcatcher, The Dark Tower or Bag of Bones.

For the most part, King’s novels and short stories have fared much better on the small screen, at least when there hasn’t already been a great movie made out of the source material. For instance, a lot of people might not even be aware that The Shining and Carrie were the subjects of TV shows, which is probably for the best. However, the likes of 11.22.63, Mr. Mercedes and The Outsider have all been solid at the very least.

Nearly a quarter-century has gone by since cult horror classic “The Craft” tapped into a pre-Harry Potter fascination with witches, giving teenage audiences a sense of how empowering it might feel for four young women, persecuted by date-rapey d-bags and openly racist prom queens, to invoke a little black magic in their desire to get even. That surprise hit was creaky even by 1996 standards, but its Goth-grunge attitude was hella edgy by comparison with “Clueless” and other clean-scrubbed YA offerings of the time, and one would hope that a Blumhouse follow-up made in the year 2020 might find a way to feel similarly avant-garde.

Instead, “Blumhouse’s The Craft: Legacy” comes across as “The Craft: Lite,” a watered-down, PG-13 reboot in which the outsiders are no longer treated as freaks, and their mission amounts to enlightening Neanderthal classmates and other assorted chauvinists about the risks of underestimating young women. If asked to describe a typical “Oscar” film, you’d likely hear phrases like “biopic” or “sprawling epic.” If there’s a genre that’s been grievously undervalued, and to a greater extent, disrespected within the industry space, it’s horror. It can be argued that it’s one of two genres that comes with an embedded bias, preventing wide acceptance (the other being “musicals”). Academy voters are one problem, but critics and awards analysts are another. Qualifying phrases like “highbrow” or “surprisingly smart” have to be used to give permission for analysts and voters to give “serious” consideration for annual top 10 lists and ballots.

Zac Efron has signed on to star in Firestarter, the upcoming film from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Weed Road Productions, adapted Stephen King’s classic sci-fi thriller novel “Firestarter.”

In the new film “A young girl develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.”

Efron can currently be seen in and produces the highly-successful docu-series Down to Earth on Netflix.

As previously announced, Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct the film that is being adapted by writer Scott Teems, who will also executive produce.

The film centers on a young girl who develops pyrokinetic powers and the ability to see the future. She is abducted by a mysterious government agency that plans to weaponize her superhuman skills. The film is backed by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Weed Road Productions.

Efron, who first came to fame in the rosy “High School Musical” franchise, has shown his darker side in certain projects, playing Ted Bundy in “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.” This feels in that vein. Season two of Riverdale brought more juicy drama, betrayal, and secrets. It also brought a musical episode based on the cult horror classic, Carrie, which was originally a novel written by writer Stephen King.

Titled “Chapter 31: A Night to Remember,” Archie and the gang prepare for Riverdale High School’s production of Carrie The Musical, and every member in Riverdale is typecasted to their respective roles. Friendships are mended, egos are challenged, and relationships are tested, all while traipsing across the stage, belting show-stopping songs worth singing. What do Heathers, Carrie, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch all have in common? They were all the unfortunate contenders that were picked to have been in Riverdale's musical episodes. Musical episodes are pretty hit or miss, and let's just say there have been three strikes already with Riverdale's episodes. There's no doubt that the stars in Riverdale have talent to boot and they sing their hearts out with every number. But does that mean they should've done it?

With every musical episode comes storylines that should've never been written, lyrics that shouldn't have been changed, and more importantly, song selections that don't match the episode at all. Here are the ten worst musical numbers that were done for the Archie comic book series.

Riverdale has a knack for musical episodes and season 3, episode 16 brought viewers a Heathers-themed musical episode. The teens of Riverdale High put on a high school production of Heathers: The Musical in the episode "Chapter 51: Big Fun." Unlike the Carrie-themed episode, audiences received even more angsty numbers and more dramatic plot revelations, all within the standard 42-minute runtime.

A “creepy” a cappella group at Dylan Holmes Williams’ university led the filmmaker to make a dark comedy short titled “The Devil’s Harmony,” about a bullied teenage girl who uses her music group to get revenge on her fellow classmates.

To say that Stephen King is the master of horror literature is such an understatement that its practically a cliché. The man behind such works as It, The Shining, Carrie, and Cujo has kept readers and viewers awake at night since the 70s and has no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

As scary as his works are, people often forget that the guy isn't some one-trick-pony. In fact, King has written a host of other works in other genres. While they might skip on the gruesome and grim at times, they're definitely worth just as much attention as his works of horror.

Stephen King has written almost a hundred novels over his long and decorated career. From classics like It, Carrie, and The Shining, to more genre-bending stories such as The Gunslinger, The Green Mile, and The Institution. Likewise, his films carry the same Stephen-King-trademark that makes them distinct and recognizable.

That being said, elements of Stephen King's work do tend to repeat themselves. The author has even admitted that he is the "literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries." While his tropes might slip into cliche territory at times, there's no doubt there's something enjoyable about pointing them out.

Terror in the Aisles, the fan-favorite 1984 theatrically-released compilation film featuring some of some of the greatest horror hits of all time - is finally getting its own standalone Blu-ray release before this Halloween on October 13th from Shout! Factory.

A roller coaster ride through the most terrifying moments from over 70 of Hollywood's greatest chillers. Donald Pleasence and Nancy Allen (Dressed to Kill) are the hosts of this blood-curdling journey through a collection of horror classics like Psycho, Jaws, Poltergeist, Alien, The Bride Of Frankenstein, The Exorcist and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Terror in the Aisles also features many thrillers released on Blu-ray recently under the Scream Factory brand including The Fog, The Thing, Phantom of the Paradise, Frogs, The Omen, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), The Howling, Cat People, Carrie, Bug, Vice Squad and The Seduction.

While it may be difficult to gauge time in the world right now, Halloween is indeed right around the corner, and Scream Factory is looking to make it a memorable spooky season with a Blu-ray release for Terror in the Aisles and Steelbook Blu-rays of Motel Hell and Pumpkinhead.

The Steelbooks will include all bonus features from Scream Factory's previous Blu-ray releases of Pumpkinhead and Motel Hell, and the full special features for Terror in the Aisles will be revealed at a later date.

Last weeks episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race All-Stars: Season 5 saw the elimination of the meme queen herself Mayhem Miller who did appear to be struggling to match the creativity, uniqueness, nerve and talent of the other competitors but it was still a shame to see her leave.
