Good singers, awful actors and a really awful film

Juanito Valderrama is a very good singer, but he's an awful actor. Dolores Abril is also a good singer (not so good as Valderrama, but still good). Nevertheless, she's a bad actress. Perlita de Huelva (a great singer) gives her voice to the actress Silvia Tortosa, who is in fact a mediocre actress in this film. Thus, we find good song performances by Spanish singers, but nothing else. The acting, directing, editing and the screenplay are really awful in every aspect. I recommend you to hear this film, but not to watch it. If you like these singers, then I recommend you to buy their songs alone in records. You'll have more than this film.

Juanito Valderrama recital singing several Spanish Folk songs , along with Dolores Abril

Below average musical dramedy dealing with a priest , Don Fernando , El Padre Coplillas : Juanito Valderrama , who serves his village by helping the unfortunate villagers , teaching illiterate men at school and solving little problems . As he comforts citzens , as he forgives a girl who has robbed at church , he makes religious processions and masses , while a very young Silvia Tortosa is engaged to two suitors.

Below par movie only for Juanito Valderrama and his wife Dolores Abril fans . It is a drama with no much interest , set in a village called Cantillana , in fact the producers thanks giving to its inhabitants. The popular couple Juanito Valderrama and Dolores Abril are accompanied by a mostly unknown support cast , here there aren't familiar faces , exception for Silvia Tortosa as a beautiful young , doubtful to marry to escape poverty . This is a film for the Copla lovers , and Andalucían songs enthusiasts . As Juanito Valderrama sings the following ones : Grandeza Divina , En La Escuela , Plegaria De Paz , Ruiseñores Del Alba , Palacio De La Misa, Mira Que Eres Malo Conmigo , Corazón a Corazón . Other singers singing attractive songs are as follows : Dolores Abril sings : Ay Colon Colon , Perlita de Huelva sings : Yo Te Daré and Huelva Choquera , Beatles De Cádiz sings En La Escuela and Escolania Basilica Valle De Los Caídos sings Aleluya and Gloria .

The motion picture was middlingly written and directed by Ramon Comas. This unknown director was a craftsman who worked as a writer , production manager , producer and finally filmmaker . As he wrore some international co-productions such as : "Rififi in Amsterdam" , "Operacion Mogador" , "La Ley Del Colt" and directed four films as "Chinos y minifaldas" , "Nuevas Amistades", "Historias de Madrid" and this "Padre Coplillas" . Rating : 3.5/10. Under par production and below average flick .

We see some studio performances on a color TV, something impossible in Spain in 1968, since color TV on studios didn't begin until 1973.
