Why Bradley Cooper Was the Perfect Person to Kick Off the Final Season of ‘The Righteous Gemstones’
Image
There’s a famous story about director Martin Scorsese wanting to cast a “Cybill Shepherd type” for the role of Betsy the volunteer worker for his landmark 1976 film “Taxi Driver.” Shepherd’s agent, Sue Mengers, heard about the casting call and put forth none other than Shepherd herself.

“The Righteous Gemstones” casting department similarly went right to the top when looking for an actor to kick off the final season’s first episode. “Prelude” is a flashback-driven origin story of one Elijah Gemstone, a violent charlatan and drifter in the Civil War who possesses a gift for the grift, and the role is played by none other than Hollywood superstar Bradley Cooper.

“We needed somebody who the audience would immediately connect to, and that they would want to watch while not missing and hoping and wondering, ‘What’s going on here and where’s [Danny McBride’s] Jesse?’” casting director Sherry Thomas said.

Not Even The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) Will Restore The Movie's Most Surprising Cut Taylor Swift Song
Image
Don't expect "No Body, No Crime" in The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+, despite its popularity among fans. The exclusive film showcases Taylor Swift's record-breaking concert series, but some key songs like "No Body, No Crime" were left out. The absence of "No Body, No Crime" with Haim in the movie may disappoint fans who missed out on seeing this unique performance live.

The Disney+ exclusive The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) film seemed to have the greatest chance to restore one great song cut from the theatrical movie, but it’s now all but guaranteed to still be absent. While still embarking on her record-breaking world tour, Taylor Swift released a filmed version of her 2023 Los Angeles concert dates in theaters on October 13. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie quickly smashed box office records to become the highest-grossing concert film of all time, with the experience then...

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour's Cut The Wrong Songs (Which Ones She Should've Dropped)
Image
Taylor Swift had to cut some songs from her three-and-a-half-hour concert for the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie, and unfortunately, some of the best and most anticipated songs were left out. Fans were disappointed that songs like "Long Live," "Cardigan," and "The Archer" were cut from the movie, as they held emotional significance and popularity. There were other songs that could have been cut instead, such as "Tolerate It" and "I Knew You Were Trouble," to make the movie even better and include more fan-favorite tracks.

Taylor Swift couldn't fit her entire three-and-a-half-hour concert into Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, so she had to sacrifice a few songs, and unfortunately, they were the wrong choices to leave out of the movie. After releasing four new albums since her last tour in 2018 and embarking on her rerecording journey, Swift had to do something big for her next tour. Instead of promoting her newest album Midnights,...

Ryan Kelley, Praya Lundberg, Pichaya Nitipaisalkul, and Madison McKinley in Dimensions hostiles (2017)
3D Realms unveiled a whack of new titles at their Realms Deep 2023 showcase over the weekend, as well as offering up updates for previously-announced games. That of course includes a whack of new trailers to ogle, so here’s a small rundown of the titles featured during the 4-hour show (which you can rewatch here). The showcase is also coinciding with the Realms Deep 2023 Steam sale for several 3D Realms titles, which is on now until October 3rd.

In Harrison’s preview (and in the new trailer!) for Atmos Games’ action-adventure shooter Twisted Tower, he likened the game to “an ultra-violent cross between BioShock, Willy Wonka & Disneyland”. And it’s easy to see why. You play as Tiny, who has received a Velvet Ticket to participate in the world-famous game show, The Twisted Tower, hosted by the billionaire toy maker, Mr. Twister. Hoping to use the $10,000,000 prize and fame...

Kelsea Ballerini Has a Few Final Musical Bombs to Drop About Her Divorce

Kelsea Ballerini has added a couple more songs to her scathing divorce EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, insisting she’s ready to put her tumultuous split from country star Morgan Evans behind her — even as she detonates a few more bombs like, “I hope you sleep better at night now that you got an army/Of people that believe I’m the word that you used to call me.”

That line appears on “Interlude (Full Length),” an explosive extension of the original EP’s “Interlude,” which was a much shorter,...

Why is the Oshi No Ko Manga on Hiatus and When Will it Come Back?
Image
Author Aka Akasaka's hit seinen manga series Oshi no Ko has announced a hiatus for now, right in the middle of the manga's final and most dramatic story arc yet. Fans will have to wait to find out how Ruby Hoshino's idol aspirations will pan out, and the series' biggest mysteries will also have to wait. But it's not all bad news, since artist Mengo Yokoyari will keep fans busy with the Interlude series in the meantime.

It's not uncommon for manga authors to take breaks in the modern era, with more and more people becoming aware of how stressful and exhausting this line of work can be. Fortunately, manga authors like Eiichiro Oda, Kohei Horikoshi, and now Aka Akasaka are freer than ever to give themselves some breathing room. Until Mr. Akasaka is ready to resume work, Oshi no Ko have plenty to enjoy, and this is also...

McKinley Dixon Drops New Album Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?: Stream
Image
Chicago rapper McKinley Dixon has returned with his new album Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?, which also marks his debut for City Slang Records. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.

Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? cribs its brilliant title from the trilogy by novelist Toni Morrison, who the former CoSign calls “the greatest rapper ever.” Dixon takes cues from the literary legend on the album, deliberately arranging his words as he meditates on poignant messages about introspection, escapism, and the human experience in America. The album’s 10 tracks also boast an impressive list of collaborators, from fellow musicians like Anjimile to the poet and writer Hanif Abdurraqib.

“The cover of Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? came to fruition when I sent the album to artist Ladon Alex with little to no description,” McKinley says of the album artwork. “I told him to listen to the album and draw what he felt would describe what he heard.

'Righteous Gemstones': Danny McBride and Joseph Stephens Reveal Backstory of Viral Hit Song "Misbehavin'"
The Righteous Gemstones, Danny McBride's comedy about a megachurch televangelist and his progeny in whom "the works of the flesh are evident," was a modest hit for HBO when it debuted in August. But it achieved viral glory after its fifth episode, titled "Interlude," which featured the original song "Misbehavin'."

The flashback episode, set in 1989, centers on a planned reunion tour between family matriarch Aimee-Leigh (played by Jennifer Nettles, the Grammy-winning lead vocalist of the country duo Sugarland) and her brother, "Baby" Billy Freeman (Walton Goggins). The duet was written by McBride,...

Review: Kod by J. Cole (2018)
I was interested when J. Cole announced the release of a new album. People have built a mythical status around him, and it’s hard to ignore his past accomplishments. The psychedelic cover art and general animosity towards “mumble rap” displayed a flavourful, different project than the rest and I became almost excited. However, throughout the album, J. Cole frequently disappoints with half-baked ideas and dry instrumentation.

The intro is polished, featuring an almost lo-fi style instrumentation behind the narration of a woman describing the effects of pain on humans. However, it sets the tone of how deep our message will really go, simply demanding, “choose wisely”, referring to drug and alcohol abuse. In the title track, “Kod” J. Cole sets the mood and tone of the album. The track leads with simplistic and stiff trap drums, and a flow both reminiscent and maybe even mimicking the scene he’s currently ridiculing.
