The “Malcolm in the Middle” revival at Disney+ is building out its cast.
Variety has learned exclusively that Kiana Madeira is set to star in the series alongside previously announced returning cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek. The Disney Branded Television show was picked up for four episodes back in December.
Per the official logline, “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
Madeira will play Tristan, described as “Malcolm’s charming and opinionated girlfriend who – by any rational standard – is way out of his league.”
Madeira is perhaps best known for her starring role in the “Fear Street” film trilogy at Netflix. Her other film credits include the “After” film franchise at Netflix — “After We Fell,” “After Ever Happy,” and “After Everything” — as well as “Brother” and “Perfect Addiction.

Through the lens of an Mma fighter grappling with an uphill battle for survival, Joseph Marconi’s Baby Love explores how self-harm can unexpectedly lead to a path of self-discovery. Offering what appears to be a nuanced portrait of healing, devoid of overt aggression, this feature debut from a filmmaker who has worked in short films, music videos, and branded content is experienced with a sound-driven aesthetic, and actress Kiana Madeira, who leads the cast, delivers a performance imbued with that bottle-rocket fuel authenticity. I had the chance to speak to Joseph Marconi in Wroclaw.

Miles Levin’s drama “Under the Lights” received the coveted Polish Film Institute Award at the American Film Festival’s industry event U.S. in Progress, as well as $50,000 cash prize for post-production in Poland.
“It has been an incredibly rewarding and inspiring project to work on. Miles is a force of nature with a clear vision and relentless drive to bring this story to life,” said Natalie Metzger, VP of production and development at Vanishing Angle.
“I’m so honored to have produced it and for it to be part of U.S. in Progress. There’s nothing like this program in America, so we are very grateful it exists. It’s much needed for American indie filmmakers.”
Levin added: “This film has been a 10-year journey and to have the support of U.S. in Progress to help it shine has been very meaningful.”

American Idol season 21 has had some of the best talent in the show's history, so it was inevitable that some extraordinary contestants would be eliminated early and left before their time. Jackie Brown has one of Quentin Tarantino’s grooviest soundtracks, featuring songs by such iconic artists as Bobby Womack and the Delfonics. The movie revolves around a flight attendant who plays a notorious gun runner and a couple of Atf agents against each other so she can make off with their loot. From Mr. Blonde torturing a cop to the tune of “Stuck in the Middle with You” to the opening credits of Pulp Fiction kicking off to the tune of “Misirlou,” Tarantino is famous for his needle drops. His soundtrack choices are as crucially tied to his filmmaking style as his idiosyncratic dialogue and scenes of graphic violence.
Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel Rum Punch, Jackie Brown was Tarantino’s only adaptation of another writer’s work. It scored much-deserved career comebacks for Pam Grier and Robert Forster, with the latter earning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting...

With his seminal 1995 film “To Die For,” Gus Van Sant proved what many assumed was an impossibility at the apotheosis of indie filmmaking: A director known for making movies apologetically in the margins of Hollywood could collaborate with a major studio without the former sacrificing his edge and the latter losing a hell of a lot of money.
But how the Sony/Columbia Pictures release — centered on aspiring small-town TV reporter Suzanne Stone Maretto (Nicole Kidman), who coerces a pair of dim, teen townies to kill her husband — came to be is unto itself a juicy, celluloid-worthy saga.

Singer/actress Diana Ross said she was “violated” by an aggressive pat-down from the Transportation Security Administration (Tsa), the airport security checkers who screen passengers for contraband.
Ross, who was in New Orleans to perform Saturday night at the annual Jazz & Heritage Festival, complained on Twitter about her treatment at the airport. She said the city treated her well, but the airport security at the Louis Armstrong International Airport did not.
This isn’t the first airport security confrontation for the 75-year-old Ross. In 1999, she was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport after allegedly assaulting a female security officer who tried to body-search her.

Between 1964 and 1967, Ross and The Supremes has 10 No. 1 hits, including “Baby Love,” “Come See About Me” and “You Can’t Hurry Love.

A Motown legend returned to the Grammys stage on Sunday to remind us all of music’s true Supreme. Diana Ross appeared on the 61st annual broadcast to perform two of her most poignant songs: “The Best Years of My Life” and “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand).”
As hard as this may be to believe, Ross has only taken home one Grammy in her decades-long career — the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award. She had previously been nominated 12 times for hits like “Baby Love,” “Stop in the Name of Love,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Ease on Down the Road” and “Endless Love,...

The recording academy has announced another performer who will take the stage at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards on February 10: none other than Diana Ross. The legendary singer turns 75 this year, and she’ll be celebrating that diamond birthday with what the academy says is “sure to be an unforgettable Grammy moment,” but would you believe that the career the Grammys are celebrating doesn’t actually include a single Grammy win?
Ross’s career has spanned decades and includes 59 albums and 91 singles. For that she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys in 2013, but she never won any of her 12 competitive nominations, even though she contended for classics like “Baby Love” and “Stop in the Name of Love” with her group The Supremes, and then “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Touch Me in the Morning” and “Endless Love” as a solo artist. Her most recent nomination was...

"Science Fiction Double Feature" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show references lots of movies. We unpack it all...
I have watched, well, not exactly watched, but experienced The Rocky Horror Picture Show over 100 times. I’ve only watched it about 30 times. I saw it in the movies and on HBO about five times before I couldn’t take it anymore and troweled makeup on, ripped up some fishnet stockings and took to a stage myself. Figured I was a natch, had the same hair as Tim Curry and did his voice in a passable mimic, not that I'd need it.
I performed in a Friday night cast 72 times from when I was 15 to when I was 17. I started as Dr. Frank N. Furter and when I was replaced by a woman in lingerie, as opposed to a guy in drag, I played Janet for a while. The...

W Stephen Gilbert writes: I first met Alastair Reid (obituary, 10 September) in 1972 when I was a trainee script editor at the BBC and shadowing a Penelope Mortimer play called Three's One under his direction. It was an awkward beast, centred on therapy sessions in which the analyst (the dapper Fulton Mackay) went unseen. Alastair got away with it – as I would now reckon – in the way he did much else, for he was he was fleet of foot, always pulling an eye-catching trick if he thought a script was flagging.
When later in the 70s I wrote about television, especially drama, in the London listings magazine Time Out, I would refer to Alastair in print as Flash Harry, which made him roar with laughter. I was thinking particularly of how he applied his inventiveness in his ghastly, lurid, modish feature Baby Love (1968).His later work matured into something lucid, judicious and humane.
