After a 23-year professional tennis career, Spanish star Rafael Nadal called it a career Thursday, announcing that he was retiring from the Atp tour.

One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Nadal leaves behind a historic legacy, as one of only three men to complete the Career Grand Slam, which includes a win at each of the four Grand Slam tournaments along with an Olympic gold medal.

Rafael Nadal is poised to go down as one of the greatest athletes to ever exist in sports, let alone in tennis. Having been in the sport for over two decades, the 22-time Grand Slam Champion recently announced that he will be closing a major chapter in his life after this year, his tennis career.

Nadal broke the news in an Instagram video (which you can watch below), confirming that the 2024 Davis Cup will serve as his final tournament appearance.

The 38-year-old 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed his last game will be this November at Davis Cup in Malaga, Spain.

He said, translated to English, “The reality is that it has been some difficult years, especially these last two. I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations. It is obviously a difficult decision and one that has taken me some time to make. But, in this life, everything has a beginning and an end. And I think it’s an appropriate time to put an end to a career that has been long and much more successful than I could have ever imagined.”

“I think I’ve come full circle since one of my first great joys as a professional tennis player was the Davis Cup final in Sevilla in 2004,” he shared.

Challengers chronicles the friendship, rivalry, and many ups and downs of Tashi (Zendaya), Art (Mike Faist), and Patrick (Josh OConnor), and after all they go through together over the years, Art and Patrick hug at the end of the movie. 2024 has seen a variety of movies that have won over critics and general audiences, and one of them is Luca Guadagninos Challengers. Written by Justin Kuritzkes, Challengers is a romantic sports drama with tennis as the backdrop, and while a lot of the tension comes from one specific match, the focus is on the relationships between the three main characters.

Challengers follows Art and Patrick, best friends who win the boys junior doubles title at the US Open in 2006. Art and Patrick then meet Tashi Duncan, a rising tennis star they both have a crush on. Tashi and Patrick begin a relationship while Tashi and Art attend Stanford University, where Tashi suffers a career-ending injury.

Zendaya's latest movie is heading to Prime Video. The romantic sports drama film, Challengers, also starring Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, will be released on the streamer next week.

Per Variety, the Zendaya-led drama will be available to stream on Prime Video beginning Sept. 19. Challengers, which was directed by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, focuses on the rivalry between tennis pros Art Donaldson (Faist) and Patrick Zweig (OConnor), who are vicious competitors on and off the court as they pine for the love of injured tennis star turned coach Tashi (Zendaya). The movie takes place across 13 years of their shared relationship, culminating in Art and Patrick's match at the Atp Challenger Tour.
