DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shares an update on the Dcu Batman's Batsuit in The Brave and the Bold. After eleven live-action Batman actors have portrayed the Caped Crusader on the big screen, expectations around the Dcu's new Batman are inevitably high. Every previous actor, director, and writer has left a mark on Batman's movie legacy, and the DC Universe's next Dark Knight needs to propose something new, if not groundbreaking.
In an interview with Cbr, James Gunn answered whether Batman's Dcu Batsuit has been chosen. Gunn confirms that "there's no decisions made about the costume at all yet" and reveals that he still doesn't know which approach DC Studios and The Brave and the Bold will take with Batman's costume. The Dcu head recalls being in the same position for Superman's costume "until the last minute," as other decisions took higher priority. Read James Gunn's full comments:

Next month, director James Gunn will debut his new Superman movie, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Gunn isn't just the guy behind this new film, but a whole DC Cinematic Universe that will include movies about Supergirl, Batman, Wonder Woman, Clayface and more. The last attempt at building out such a movie universe failed, but Gunn is back to give it another try and eat Marvel's lunch.
Although if you ask him, Gunn will say that he's not modeling this new cinematic universe after the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is by far the most successful of all the cinematic universes in the universe. “Game of Thrones, not just the show but the books, is what we’re using as a reference for the Dcu," he told Omelete. "The Dcu is not the MCU. The MCU is kind of our world. It has New York, it has this city or that city,...

The rebooted DC Universe is full-steam ahead as James Gunn promotes his upcoming film, Superman, which hits theaters this July. After the Dceu shuttered following several disastrous theatrical releases, a new era has arrived for the iconic property. Superman will be the first of many films coming out in the new cinematic universe, but fans shouldn't expect another half-hazard attempt at replicating the McU's success. Another incredibly famous franchise serves as inspiration for the Dcu.
During an interview with Omelete (via ComicBookMovie), Gunn revealed that the Dcu is taking a page out of the Game of Thrones franchise, including the award-winning HBO adaptation and the George R. R. Martin novels. Although the MCU is often seen as the benchmark for successful superhero universes, the Dcu is moving in a different direction, while still following in the footsteps of a cultural landmark.

Original plans called for The Flash to end with Michael Keaton's Batman officially part of the Dceu. He'd have gone on to appear in Batgirl and Batman Beyond, eventually meeting Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
DC Studios scrapped Warner Bros.' plans and will introduce a new Batman in Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold. That movie is expected to feature Bruce Wayne training his son, Damian, as Robin, adapting elements from Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's critically acclaimed Batman and Robin.
The Brave and the Bold appears to be going nowhere fast, and based on comments from DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn, the Caped Crusader is still a long way from being cast in the Dcu.

The next James Bond movie has found its director, and it is none other than Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker behind Dune. In June 2025, Amazon MGM confirmed that Villeneuve had been tapped to helm the next installment featuring the iconic Agent 007, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman serving as producers.
Villeneuve’s recent track record makes him an exciting choice, but it also means that the door remains open for Christopher Nolan, who was deemed a fan favorite in the race for the director’s chair. While we are excited about Villeneuve’s take on the iconic British superspy, Nolan could also direct a future installment, and here’s why.

Jensen Ackles has made it clear that he’s interested in playing Batman if the chance ever comes his way. In a recent interview with Collider’s Tania Hussain, Ackles said he would be excited to take on the role, but also admitted it would be a big challenge.
He said, “I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text. But look, you talk about not wanting to fumble the football, that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry, but also proud, and a certain feather in the cap. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”

As audiences await several more years for Robert Pattinson to return as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' The Batman, the Dcu will soon introduce a brand-new version of the iconic superhero. James Gunn has been adamant that a new actor will join his rebooted universe in Brave and the Bold, and while an actor has not been chosen, Reacher star Alan Ritchson has been a fan-favorite choice. However, another recent Amazon action hero has joined the conversation, and he has a history of playing Batman-related DC characters.
During an interview with Collider, Countdown star Jensen Ackles talked about possibly joining the Dcu to take on the iconic mantle of Batman. He puts his hat in the casting ring, stating that he would attempt to bring something "truly unique" to his version of the character, which has received numerous live-action interpretations in the past few decades. The role of the next live-action Batman in James Gunn's Dcu is still yet to be cast, and until then, many fans will be campaigning for Jensen Ackles to get the role. The Supernatural star has been a popular pick ever since voicing Batman in animated DC projects, as a lot of fans feel he would also be able to nail the role in live-action.
Per Collider, Ackles commented on the possibility of playing the Dark Knight in a new interview to promote his Prime Video series Countdown. The actor confirmed that he's open to playing the role, but he would also feel apprehensive, recognizing how challenging it would be for any actor to deliver a new performance that stands out from all of his predecessors. With that said, he couldn't guess exactly how he might approach the role, hinting that it would depend on the tone of the script.

Jensen Ackles opens up about potentially joining James Gunn's DC Universe as Batman in The Brave and The Bold. Following the numerous occasions of Gunn reaffirming that the Dcu's Batman won't be Robert Pattinson, many are waiting to see who will actually don the cape and cowl in DC Studios' new superhero franchise.

It seems that James Gunn knows what he’s doing with the character of Batman and the debut of the iconic role in the Dcu. Confirming the appearance of Batman in Gunn’s Dcu, the director may have made a mistake that could backfire pretty soon.
Although James Gunn confirmed that Batman will be making his live-action appearance in an upcoming Dcu movie, this decision will also have a devastating impact on Gunn’s upcoming confirmed Dcu flick, Clayface, because he needs Batman by his side.

The DC Universe is rebooting Batman and Wonder Woman for the big screen, and new art brings two popular casting choices to life. The Dcu is working on a new Wonder Woman movie, as well as a reboot for Batman, with the movie titled The Brave and The Bold. Since new actors are set to replace Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck, many are naturally curious about who will be taking on these beloved characters in the Dcu franchise.
With Gunn having recently shared updates that DC Studios is writing both of their films, fans are sharing who they want to see as the new Batman and Wonder Woman. Graphic artist John Kregan recently shared Dcu artwork where they imagined Brandon Sklenar and Melissa Barrera as the Dcu's Dark Knight and Amazonian heroine, next to David Corenswet's Superman. The James Bond franchise received a major update this week after a shortlist of potential directors made its way online. The Amazon MGM-owned property will undergo a soft reboot following the end of Daniel Craig’s run as the iconic Agent 007, with a new actor yet to replace him.

However, the odds are drastically against Cavill, and the latest update suggests that his hopes of playing the British super spy may have been crushed. Here is the latest update on the next James Bond movie.

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn's Superman movie would include a slew of DC characters outside the titular hero, fans have been concerned about it being overcrowded. However, Gunn has assured fans there is nothing to be concerned about, citing Christopher Nolan's Academy Award Best Picture winner as a point of comparison.

If James Gunn Wants It, These 5 Actresses Can Replace Ezra Miller as DC’s First Gender-swapped Flash
Will James Gunn make a bold move with Barry Allen, aka the Flash? Gunn would love to bring more female superheroes into his DC Universe, and the Flash is one of the central characters who could potentially be gender-swapped in the new Dcu.
There’s no doubt that such a decision would invite a whole lot more trouble for Gunn, possibly even more than the backlash DC faced over Ezra Miller’s The Flash in 2023.
Still, there’s a small chance Gunn could make this work with the right approach. A few actresses come to mind who could step into the role and replace Ezra Miller—or Grant Gustin—as the new Flash in the Dcu. Here are five actresses who could convincingly take on the mantle of “Barbara” Allen.

A slightly lesser known but possibly stronger recent series of DC Comics adaptations before James Gunn's Dcu hits theaters was the Arrowverse on The CW. It began with Arrow, which was a take on Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell. Another series was Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl. In a recent interview with WatchMojo, Benoist shared her thoughts about the upcoming installments of the Dcu, including Gunn's take on Supergirl with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock. Despite the recent delay, Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel is expected to commence production early next year to make its new October 1, 2027 release date. Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but a lot of fans still hope to see the Mickey 17 actor stick around as the Dcu's Dark Knight for the planned The Brave and the Bold movie and beyond.
Folding the Batverse into the Dcu might make the most sense, if for no other reason than to avoid having two separate Batman franchises running alongside each other. By the time The Batman: Part II actually hits theaters in 2027, there's sure to have been at least some progress on The Brave and The Bold.
Even so, Reeves, James Gunn and his DC Studios co-ceo, Peter Safran, all remain adamant that a new take on the Caped Crusader will be introduced.

DC Studios' Clayface movie will soon begin filming, and the project's working title has now been revealed.
According to FeatureFirst.net, Clayface will be known as "Corinthians" while shooting takes place.
Though working titles don't always have much to do with the plot of the movie itself, they are usually chosen for some reason. There's been some speculation that Corinthians might have something to do with the character from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, but it's far more likely to refer to Corinth, Greece, the Corinthian order of architecture, or the corresponding Biblical verses.
We recently got confirmation that George MacKay, Tom Blythe (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), Jack O'Connell and Leo Woodall are all testing for the lead role of (presumably) Basil Karlo.

A new box office report claims Supermanand The Fantastic Four: First Steps are headed towards huge opening weekends. It has been a while since James Gunn took control of the Dcu, and his soft rebooted version of the respective super-verse seems to be unfolding pretty epically already. James Gunn’s Superman trailer dropped, and it’s not shying away from tension. The visuals may scream fresh start, but the core conflict feels hauntingly familiar to long-time DC fans. With Lex Luthor threatening the people closest to Clark Kent, the emotional weight mirrors past Superman showdowns, especially those seen under Zack Snyder’s direction.
This time, the danger feels more psychological than physical, but just as personal. The trailer blends classic Superman optimism with unsettling threats, setting up a story that could echo old dilemmas in new ways.

Nathan Fillion will make his DC Universe debut in James Gunn's Superman. The actor will portray Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, a superhero as iconic as his bowl cut, an aspect of the character that Fillion fought to retain in the Dcu version.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Fillion shared how the Dcu Guy Gardner almost didn't have his iconic bowl cut, revealing that there "was talk about a different hairstyle, equally as goofy, but not a bowl cut." Luckily for die-hard Guy Gardner fans, Fillion was on "Team Bowl Cut the whole time," explaining, "We did a screen test earlier on with some other actors, and they gave me a test bowl cut wig, like a little mockup wig. I thought it was great. There's just something about Guy Gardner where the bowl cut says it all for him."

Photo Credit: Warner Bros Back in January 2023, DC Studios co-head James Gunn sent waves through the fandom with the announcement of a massive Phase 1 slate of movies and shows for the revitalized DC universe, cleverly titled Gods and Monsters. One notable absence from that initial lineup? The Justice League. But fear not, DC faithful! In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly for their upcoming Superman cover story, Gunn himself addressed the potential for a larger superhero team-up, confirming that the idea is definitely on his radar. “Of course, of course,” Gunn told EW. “But there is no Justice League in this world…not yet.” When playfully pressed if these Justice League plans tie into his overarching vision for “Gods and Monsters,” Gunn simply teased, “Sure.” While a full-fledged Justice League might not be immediate, the world of Gunn’s Superman is far from devoid of heroes. We’ll meet the fascinating Justice Gang,...

At the time of writing, we are one month and one day exactly away from the release of James Gunn's Superman, the first major entry in DC Studios' new-look Dcu. But even before David Corenswet's Man of Steel takes flight for the first time, it looks like Gunn has already got one eye on plans to bring another major player from the DC universe back to our screens. Namely, Princess Diana of Themyscira — or, as we know her best, Wonder Woman.

Superman has always been a character that's represented ideals such as hope, altruism, and the indomitable human spirit, but this year, he's standing tall against a scourge endemic to many a recent comic book movie: Homework. As Warner Bros. seeks to reboot its flagship franchise with a whole new DC Universe unfolding under the careful eye of studio co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, no movie feels more crucial right out of the gate than Gunn's upcoming "Superman." Part of that comes down to simply making good and successful movies, which would be a refreshing change of pace from the string of critical and box office disappointments leftover from the previous regime. But equally as important is the need to avoid the mistakes of DC's biggest and most formidable competitor, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To that end, we can apparently wave goodbye to the notion of having to treat...

As we first reported earlier today, DC Studios is finally developing a Wonder Woman movie. It's long overdue, but Diana Prince hasn't been cast, and neither has the Dcu's Batman (even with The Brave and the Bold still on the way).
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn pointed out that Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader "is still there" in Matt Reeves' Elseworlds franchise, The Batman. He also reiterated that the filmmaker remains hard at work on Part II.
"What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary," Gunn pointed out. "We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait."
That's a frustratingly familiar update, but the filmmaker and studio executive did elaborate on his master plan for the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate first announced at the start of 2023.
While stopping short of saying where it's all going, he did strongly hint at...

Incredibles 3 is making franchise history, although it's in a way that might not please too many Pixar fans. The upcoming threequel will be the first Incredibles movie not to be directed by Brad Bird.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bird is no longer directing Incredibles 3, with Pixar tapping Elemental director Peter Sohn as his replacement. While an official reason hasn't been given yet as to why Bird isn't directing the threequel anymore, the filmmaker is currently in pre-production on Skydance's Ray Gunn, which could mean that scheduling conflicts prevented him from being able to direct both movies. At this time, Bird remains involved in Incredibles 3 as a screenwriter and producer.

Pixar is shaking things up for Incredibles 3.
Peter Sohn (Elemental, The Good Dinosaur) will direct the third installment of the critically and commercially successful animated series.
Brad Bird wrote the screenplays for and directed the first two films in the franchise, which have earned a combined $1.8 billion at the box office. Bird is currently in the process of writing the screenplay for the threequel, which will be produced by Bird and Dana Murray (Oscar-winning Soul).
The franchise follows married couple Bob and Helen Parr (Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter) who live in the quiet suburbs with their three children after being forced to hide their superpowers by a new government mandate. Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Vowell are part of the main cast.
The first Incredibles was released in 2004 and won the Academy Award for best animated film the following year. Incredibles 2 was released 14 years later, and earned $1.24 billion globally.

A new Superman movie report may have finally revealed the budget for the upcoming DC Universe blockbuster. With the summer season kicking off, James Gunn's Superman movie is only a month away from opening in theaters, as the Man of Steel finally flies back into theaters. However, there is a lot riding on the Superman film for DC Studios - and the DC Universe itself - with a new report underlining how big the stakes may well be for Gunn's movie.
The Hollywood Reporter recently stated that documents were filed by the Superman production team for the Ohio government - as they were seeking incentives on the film - that reported its budget at $363.8 million. Despite Gunn having addressed the Superman budget previously in February 2024 to not be in that number range, THR notes that "one longtime financier says the $363 million figure isn’t incorrect." A few days ago, we went to see Mission: Impossible in the IMAX (of course—it’s a no-brainer when it comes to action spectacle), and just before the feature presentation, the trailer for Superman (2025) graced the enormous screen. While the trailer had all the high-flying energy and heartfelt emotion you’d expect from a James Gunn-directed take on the Man of Steel, there was something subtler that truly stood out to us—something that only film lovers might pause to notice: the grain. Yes, film grain. That textured, tactile, almost imperceptible quality we associate with celluloid. It was there, and it was deliberate. On the IMAX screen, the effect was unmistakable. From the sun-drenched Kansas landscapes to the nighttime city shots, the presence of grain gave the trailer an analog soul. It didn’t just look beautiful—it looked cinematic in the most nostalgic and crafted way. For a film shot 100% digitally,...

There’s been a lot of noise online lately about James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. Some people were worried, pointing out changes behind the scenes like shifts in the composer and editor positions. But according to those close to the production, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, and actually, everything seems to be on track.
Director James Gunn has been testing the film, making edits, and fine-tuning it, which insiders say is just part of the normal process. One person familiar with how things work at DC said, “I’m no defender of Gunn, but none of this is unusual. It’s part of honing the movie. Any movie.” Another added, “Gunn absolutely tests, he absolutely tinkers. He’s not one of those directors who can’t take suggestions.”
The movie recently wrapped a quick three-day pickup shoot in Atlanta, not a full reshoot, which is also pretty standard.

It ain't easy making a proper "Superman" movie, as Warner Bros. has learned the hard way over the last several years. This has arguably remained an issue dating back to when director Richard Donner hung up his own cape, which anyone who's watched "Superman III" and "The Quest for Peace" can attest to, and extending through the 21st Century. The last solo film centered on Superman was Zack Snyder's divisive "Man of Steel" in 2013, well over a decade ago. The last big-screen appearance of Superman hardly even counts as such, when the creative team behind 2023's "The Flash" decided to ghoulishly resurrect the digital husk of Christopher Reeve's version and digitally de-age Helen Slater's Supergirl for a pair of ill-conceived cameos (with a little Nicolas Cage action thrown in for good measure). James Gunn's "Superman" reboot later this year couldn't possibly feel more significant, both for Warner Bros.

Had Henry Cavill's Superman sequel ever happened, the Dceu would have explored the Man of Steel's fears, according to Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie. One of the most famous aspects of the Dceu movie timeline was the many DC movies that were put in development by DC Films - the original division before the launch of DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran - only for many of them to never come to fruition. It just doesn't feel like a James Gunn project without a Michael Rooker appearance. The actor, who has appeared in all the filmmaker's movies to date, is set to appear in the forthcoming second season of Peacemaker, and his role has just been revealed.
As part of Entertainment Weekly's Summer Preview 2025, Rooker's live-action role in the DC Universe has been unveiled. The actor will portray Red St. Wild in Peacemaker Season 2, with the character set to serve as an antagonist for Peacemaker's eagle sidekick Eagly. "His name is Red St. Wild, and he's the world's foremost eagle hunter who is on a mission to kill Eagly," shared Gunn.
