Just a few weeks after cameras began rolling in South Africa on the much-anticipated adaptation of the best-selling young adult fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone, the Paramount Pictures production has announced a few more additions to its massively star-studded cast. Deadline reports that Zackary Momoh, who previously starred in Mike Flanagan's high-profile adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep as Abra Stone's father, has been tapped to join the film alongside Saniyya Sidney (Fences), Richard Mofe-Damijo (Namaste Wahala), Ayra Starr (Christmas in Lagos), Pamilerin Ayodeji (Mikolo), Shamz Garuba (Crime and Justice Lagos), Kola Bodund (Shadow), and Temi Fagbenle. First announced in 2022 after Paramount won a fierce bidding war, the film is being directed by The Woman King helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood and is due out in early 2027.

Boris Karloff Documentary ‘Man Behind The Monster’ to Mark ‘Frankenstein’ Anniversary (Exclusive)
Image
A new documentary about “Frankenstein” actor Boris Karloff is in the works.

Voltage Films is currently in production on the feature documentary “Boris Karloff: The Man Behind The Monster.” Co-produced and co-written by Ron MacCloskey and Thomas Hamilton with Hamilton directing and Tracy Jenkins producing, the film offers a fascinating portrait of Karloff, examining his illustrious 60-year career in the entertainment industry and his enduring legacy as one of the icons of 20th century popular culture.

The film follows on from the acclaimed 2010 biography “Boris Karloff: More Than A Monster,” written by Karloff’s official biographer Stephen Jacobs, who serves as the film’s historical consultant.

MacCloskey dedicated 23 years to the project, travelling the world to conduct extensive research. Since 2018, the team has filmed 50 interviews in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and London. Contributors include Peter Bogdanovich, Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Plummer, John Landis, Roger Corman and Kevin Brownlow.

The Stack: Canfield Talks Vintage William Castle And Much More
The Stack is back with a last look at what's truly "out there" for Halloween. First up is some vintage Blu-ray goodness from Kino, The Death Kiss starring Bela Lugosi and a late career entry from Boris Karloff, Cauldron of Blood finally becomes available on Blu-ray via the good folks at Olive Films. Scream Factory has a bunch of stuff out for Halloween but I picked the late seventies schlocker Squirm and the gorgeous Directors Cut of Night Breed. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has never looked as stunning as it does in this new 40th Anniversary Edition from Dark Sky Films and IFC offers up a DVD of Alex de la Iglesia's weird and wonderful Witching and Bitching. Cult Epics truly blew my mind with the surreal...

Your 2014 Halloween Season Blu-ray & DVD Preview
Last year, James put together a comprehensive guide, of every piece of Halloween programming and horror movie that would air during the month of October. When I asked him if we were doing the same again this year, he acted like I was an idiot. Why wouldn’t we? With that knowledge in my head, I decided we would expand a little bit this year, and throw together a comprehensive DVD & Blu-ray buyer’s guide for the months of September and October. There are some really great horror releases between now and the end of October. Some studios wasted their opportunity to rope in the rabid genre fans. Fox, for example, except for a new Wrong Turn film, and a few catalog releases making their Blu-ray debuts(Exorcist sequels), has a calendar filled with nonsensical re-releases of titles that are already widely available, and at cheap prices.

We aim for...

Cauldron of Blood Blu-ray / DVD Release Details & Cover Art
Reclusive blind artist Franz Badulescu makes beautiful life-like sculptures, but as photographer Claude Marchand discovers, they may be a little too realistic. There’s something macabre going on at Franz’s Spanish castle in 1971′s Cauldron of Blood (aka Blind Man’s Bluff), starring horror legend Boris Karloff, and Olive Films is bringing the film’s murderous mystery to Blu-ray and DVD this fall.

Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 14th, Cauldron of Blood will be available in time to secure a spot in Halloween movie marathons. For those unfamiliar with the Euro horror film, we have the synopsis and a look at the cover art (image courtesy of Amazon!):

“In a clever twist on the sculptor/murderer theme that runs throughout horror film history, the legendary Boris Karloff stars as blind artist Franz Badulescu, who creates startlingly lifelike statues with the help of his protective daughter, Viveca Lindfors...

Not Available on DVD – Curse Of The Crimson Cult
Any film featuring either Christopher Lee or Boris Karloff is an instant must-see for horror fans. The two terror titans joined forces the first time in 1958′s Corridors Of Blood, a grimy graverobber/mad doctor opus that took place in 19th century England. Ten years later came their second and final collaboration, Curse Of The Crimson Cult (aka Curse Of The Crimson Altar or simply The Crimson Cult) and this time cult siren Barbara Steele, the reigning queen of horror, joined them as well. With this type of fright wattage, you’d expect Curse Of The Crimson Cult to be some sort of classic much-discussed by monster kids just for the cast alone (it’s even got Michael Gough!), but that’s not the case with this strange but confused brew of devil-worshipping, witches, creepy old mansions with secret passageways torture devices, and ritual sacrifices. It’s considered to be...
