Iranian film-maker Jafar Panahi, who has previously been arrested and jailed and whose films have been banned in Iran on multiple occasions, has said “even my closest friends had given up hope that I would ever make films again”.

Panahi was speaking at a press conference before the premiere of his new film A Simple Accident at the Cannes film festival, his first visit in 22 years since bringing Crimson Gold to Cannes in 2003. Mayor of Kingstown lead actor Jeremy Renner reveals how "a little bit scared" he is about getting back to work on the hit crime drama following his near-fatal snowplow accident last year, though he relishes the challenges.

Speaking with People while filming a Super Bowl Lviii commercial, Renner addressed returning to film Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown, the first project he's worked on since the accident at his Nevada home last January. Renner admitted the process is "arduous" as he tries to return to full speed following the incident. However, he's trying to take things one step at a time. “I don't know if I'm looking forward to it. Again, I try to just do everything kind of step by step here. That's one foot in front of the other one. Then you're walking," he said. "[I'm] scared of slipping and falling."

Returning for its 30th anniversary edition next year, Slamdance Film Festival has now unveiled its full film lineup for 2024. Kicking off with Oscar-winning filmmaker Carol Dysinger’s One Bullet, this year’s festival will showcase 32 features both in Park City and Salt Lake City from January 19-25 and online screenings will be available on the Slamdance Channel from January 22-28.

“Our 2024 Slamdance lineup is a testament to filmmakers who dare to push their stories to the very edge of filmmaking, making it deeply personal yet globally resonant,” said Festival Director Taylor Miller. “Their raw passion and risk-taking echo our commitment to exploring uncharted territories of cinematic expression. This year, we proudly host the most inclusive and accessible festival we’ve ever had, staying true to the core objectives I aimed to cultivate with our programmers when I took this job.”

The 2024 programming was selected from more than 9,000 submissions, 1,729 of which were features.

Image Comics most famous character, the demonic Spawn, is set to appear in one of the company's current ongoing series, Killadelphia – but he won't be alone. Joining him in the pages of the Eisner Award-nominated series will be characters including Savage Dragon, Blacula, and none other than Count Dracula himself.

As revealed by Image, Killadelphia #31 – from writer Rodney Barnes, with art by Jason Shawn Alexander – continues the series' "war between Heaven and Hell," by adding a surprising mix of iconic characters into the conflict.

The upcoming arc promises to "weave into the tapestry of a larger universe when Todd McFarlane’s greatest creation crosses over," with Spawn joining the fray of Killadelphia's battle between vampires and Philly detectives.

Set in the world of a company town in which prison is the main business, the series first premiered in November 2021. Its second season finished airing earlier this spring.

Earlier this week, IndieWire exclusively debuted a video of Steven Spielberg sharing his inaugural picks as an advisor to TCM: five films he chose from the beloved network’s September 2023 lineup. Now his fellow advisors Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson have gotten in on the action too. Watch the video of Scorsese recommending one of TCM’s September titles above: it’s about Arthur Crabtree’s “Madonna of the Seven Moons,” a melodrama produced by Gainsborough Pictures in 1945.

Gainsborough Pictures was a U.K. studio renowned for a series of highly-charged melodramas in the 1940s built around actors like James Mason, Margaret Lockwood, and Dennis Price. None of the films are connected plot-wise, but they do share many of the same creatives in front and behind the camera as well as a similar mood.
