The origin of the name "Captain Nice:" When Carter Nash is first discovered as a "superhero", he has a belt engraved with his initials, "CN". A passer-by asks him what the "CN" stands for and, not wanting to give his real name, he comes up with, "Captain . . . Nice."
The whole Clark Kent/Lois Lane/Superman dynamic is altered in this series. In the Superman stories, Lois Lane is generally in love with Supeman, and is most often uninterested in the nerdy Clark Kent. However, Sgt. Candy Cane is in love with Carter Nash, the nerdy chemist, and is pointedly uninterested in the powerful superhero Captain Nice.
Topps released a small test run of 30 trading cards, which are very rare. The fronts included black-and-white stills and publicity images (which is odd since the photos were shot in color), and the backs featured color comic strips by legendary artist Wally Wood. A pack of 5 cards with a stick of gum originally sold for a nickel, but single cards now sell in the triple-digits.
Alice Ghostley (Mrs. Nash)'s husband of over 50 years, Felice Orlandi, guest-starred as one of the goons who kidnapped her in "That's What Mothers Are For." Although they each had prolific acting careers, this was one of the only times that they appeared together on-screen.
The first time that William Daniels was in the flying rig was when they were filming the opening credits sequence. The crew zoomed him across the stage on pulleys and accidentally crashed him head-first into a wall.
