Terence Young and Euan Lloyd worked for free while all of the big-name cast members were paid one dollar for their work.
The United Nations Secretary General asked Xerox to sponsor this production for the U.S., which it did. The on-screen credit says: "This film was produced as a public service through funds provided by the XEROX CORPORATION".
Grace Kelly's only completed movie since retiring from the screen in 1956. She was also a front-runner for Pas de printemps pour Marnie (1964) (for her favorite director, Sir Alfred Hitchcock) and, at the time of her death, was preparing an official comeback with the never-completed 1982 drama Rearranged (1982), which would have paired her with Edward Meeks and Robert Dornhelm.
This movie was promoted on U.S. television under the title "The Poppy Is Also a Flower", but when it was shown, the on-screen title was "Poppies Are Also Flowers".
