Out and Out Rout (1966)

Trivia

Out and Out Rout

Edit
Wile. E. Coyote's slingshot dragster is remarkably accurate, to the point where the brand and model of individual parts is identifiable- It was clearly based on a real drag car of the era. It has a Chrysler 'hemi' V8, a GMC 8-71 supercharger with a cartoonish-but-correct belt-driven pulley set-up, and a 'Moon' brand spun aluminium gas tank- All common parts for drag cars, that you can still see in use at any drag meet, over 50 years later.
The sidewalk surfboard, aka the skateboard, was just getting popular at the time of this short. Coyote rides a primitive model.
Coyote uses a falcon, and dons a falconer's glove, in his unsuccessful quest of the Roadrunner.
Beautifully stylized abstract depictions of the desert are seen here, as befitting the modern 60's.
Land sailing, which Coyote attempts, had become a sport in the 1950's, though the concept had been around for some time. It would evolve into new sports, such as ice sailing and kite surfing, as well as hang gliding, over the decades.
