La Guerre des monstres (1966)

FAQ

La Guerre des monstres

FAQ

The brown monster returns to the hiding spot he'd set up for green monster so he could heal and sees human clothes lying around, indicating that the green monster had eaten people. The brown monster is the "good guy" of the film and protective of human life and was plainly enraged by his brother's monstrous behavior.

Also the Brown monster just wants to live in harmony with the humans but his Green brother is messing it up by going around eating people, thus ruining his existence with the humans. He had no choice but to give the Green brother a beat down.

Saperstein had every allusion to Frankenstein removed from the US version of the movie and called Gaira and Sanda the Green Gargantua and Brown Gargantua. The title was changed to The War of the Gargantuas. Funny though, in an additional scene in the US version - the only direct allusion to the first movie is contained. This is when Professor Stewart mentioned a mysterious hand he once examined, and probably refers to Frankenstein's severed hand from the original movie.

Besides the removed hints at Frankenstein, there is more focus on Russ Tamblyn (Professor Stewart) in the US version. For example, the police asked him for help at the beginning of the movie and he is present when the injured sailor is interrogated.

Additionally, there are some scene extensions and a different score. The music by Akira Ifukube is being used, but stock music was also utilized. Some sound effects, e.g. little Sanda's sounds in the laboratory, were removed.
