Sometimes you should take your friend’s advice.
In a Vanity Fair story honoring Bruce Willis’ 70th birthday, Samuel L. Jackson reflected on the advice his Die Hard With a Vengeance co-star Willis gave him while they were shooting the film in the ’90s.
“He told me, ‘Hopefully you’ll be able to find a character that, when you make bad movies and they don’t make any money, you can always go back to this character everybody loves,'” Jackson remembers. “He said, ‘Arnold’s got Terminator. Sylvester’s got Rocky, Rambo. I’ve got John McClane.’”
Jackson recalled thinking “Oh, Ok,” at the time, and it wasn’t until later when he landed a role in the MCU that he understood. “It didn’t occur to me until I got that Nick Fury role — and I had a nine-picture deal to be Nick Fury — that, oh, I’m doing what Bruce said.

Bruce Willis is celebrating his 70th birthday, and his daughter, Rumer Willis, has provided a positive update on her father's health amid his ongoing dementia battle. The Die Hard actor and ex-wife Demi Moore's eldest child, who is now 36, took to her Instagram Stories for a Q&a with fans, where, according to Daily Mail, she addressed how her dad is doing, more than two years on from his frontotemporal dementia (Ftd) diagnosis.
The Hollywood star, widely known for his roles in action films, particularly his portrayal of John McClane in the Die Hard franchise, as well as memorable turns in movies of different genres, such as Pulp Fiction and The Fifth Element, announced he was stepping away from acting in 2022 after initially being diagnosed with aphasia. Tara Wood has completed her in-depth, four-part docuseries on the life and work of Tim Burton, the director of “Batman,” ” Beetlejuice,” and “Edward Scissorhands.” The series marks the first time that Burton has supported a project about his career and includes exclusive interviews and unpublished artworks, as well as a never-before-seen stop-motion short film. The first episode in the docuseries premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival as a sneak peek, earning strong reviews and buzz. WME has come on board to handle global sales.

Last year, Charles Band’s company Full Moon announced that they were launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which would focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” Two Pulp Noir movies, Quadrant and Death Streamer, have since made their way through production – and while those movies were initially released in color, all of the Pulp Noir movies will also get black & white “noir” releases, so there are both color and black & white versions of Quadrant and Death Streamer available on the Full Moon Features streaming service. While we wait for more Pulp Noir movies to be made, Band has started going through the Full Moon library to give some of their older films the black & white / noir treatment. Last month, a “noir” version of the 1984 sci-fi thriller Christmas classic Trancers was released through Full Moon Features and YouTube, as was a black & white version of the 1997 creature feature The Creeps.

Pulp Fiction stars John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Tim Roth and Ving Rhames. For a filmmaker who once enjoyed a reputation as a bad-boy subversive, Quentin Tarantino has always been eager to please, especially in his early films, which are obsessed with coolness as pop-cultural vindication. A key moment in Tony Scott’s True Romance, which Tarantino wrote, spells this obsession out when Patricia Arquette’s Alabama Whitman repeats, “You’re so cool,” in voiceover as an incantation that embodies a supreme and fragile sort of male wish-fulfillment. Alabama is talking about her unlikely adoration of Christian Slater’s nerdy protagonist, Clarence Worley, who was once a clerk in a comic book store, which is obviously and consciously similar to Tarantino’s heavily mythologized background as a video store employee. Like Clarence, Tarantino made phenomenally good on his dreams.

Firearms specialist Patrick McNamara analyzed gun technique and accuracy in 13 Hollywood action movies for Business Insider's How Real Is It? podcast series. In the video, McNamara breaks down how movie characters handle different types of weapons, recover ammo while in action, fire two guns at once, and more. Two of Samuel L. Jackson's films appear in the video: 2003's S.W.A.T., also starring Colin Farrell and Jeremy Renner, and Pulp Fiction, also starring John Travolta and Bruce Willis.
Some of Jackson's most notable performances involve detailed action sequences, from playing Mace Windu in Star Wars and Nick Fury in Marvel, to his infamous flick, Snakes on a Plane. However, Jackson's action wasn't enough to save one of the films that McNamara reviewed. S.W.A.T. is a movie adaptation of the 1975 crime drama of the same name. Quentin Tarantino has crafted characters, some of whom have a life of their own in the minds and hearts of moviegoers. It's difficult to forget Pulp Fiction's impressive, cool, violent humor of the duo of Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield or the unrelenting vengeance of the kung-fu protg, the Bride in Kill Bill. The freed slave Django in Django Unchained is a masterclass character as well. But according to Tarantino, one character surpasses them all in complexity and intrigue: Colonel Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino considers Landa not only "one of the greatest characters I have ever written," but potentially the best he'll ever create.

While the savior of cinema awaits the release of his eighth Mission Impossible film, Tom Cruise is reportedly hoping to recapture the success of Top Gun: Maverick with a sequel to another classic action film of his. The actor is reportedly in talks with Paramount to develop a sequel to his racing film Days of Thunder by Tony Scott.
While Cruise has cracked the formula for crafting action blockbusters with a heart, he might have jumped the gun on this one. The racing genre has been quite popular in the past few years, with Formula One racing gaining fans after Netflix’s Drive to Survive. The actor also sees competition from Brad Pitt’s F1 film.

Quentin Tarantino's 10-movie filmography has become one of Hollywood's most enduring modern legends, and Ridley Scott thinks this self-imposed retirement plan is pure "bullsh*t."
Tarantino is currently hard at work on his 10th (and reportedly final) movie. The project was initially announced as The Movie Critic, and would have starred Brad Pitt. However, it was recently confirmed that Tarantino is re-working the idea, and the new project is once again a complete mystery. While Tarantino seems set on only directing 10 films, one Hollywood legend who isn't so certain is Ridley Scott, who will apparently outlive us all and make movies until the day he dies.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote Gladiator II, Scott, who's become increasingly active in his later years was asked about Tarantino's mythical plan. "I dont believe it," was Scott's blunt and honest response. The director is known for tackling questions head on...

When talking about Pulp Fiction 30 years later, Bruce Willis’ performance is not something that immediately comes up in discussions. Willis’s character Butch was one of the more conventional characters in the film, which was filled with image-breaking performances. However, Willis’ stardom gave a significant boost to the film at the time of its making.

Interestingly, Willis was not a name that Quentin Tarantino ever had in mind for the role. It was Harvey Keitel, who played the role of Winston Wolfe, who introduced the Die Hard actor to Tarantino. At the time, Willis was one of the only A-listers among the cast.

As ill-fated coffee shop burglar Pumpkin in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” Tim Roth knows the truth about a privileged piece of movie mythology.
“We tend to know only as much as [our character] would know, but one thing that I do know because my character would know, which is what’s in the suitcase,” Roth reveals. “But Quentin asked me not to mention it.”
In a film full of mysteries, the contents of that sacred object remain among the biggest. But even without Jules Winnfield’s 9mm pistol pointed at his head, Roth is kind enough to volunteer an answer that, though perhaps slightly disappointing, is at least factually accurate. “I remember him saying that the answer if they ask you was, ‘A battery and a lamp’.”

Pulp Fiction's stacked ensemble fleshed out the story with shady characters, and Samuel L. Jackson's Jules Winnfield was an easy favorite. The actor marks the film's 30th anniversary with a sample of the performance that earned him an Oscar bid.
Samuel L. Jackson appeared in five more Quentin Tarantino films, after featuring in 1994's Pulp Fiction as the scripture-quoting hitman Jules Winnfield. The actor recently proved that role was high on his list of favorites by reciting his iconic spiel in the film. His highlight moment happens in an early scene; in one of their errands for crime boss Marsellus Wallace (played by Ving Rhames), Jules and partner Vincent Vega (John Travolta) visit Marsellus' double-crossing business partner Brett to serve out his reckoning. In an X post, Jackson recited the Bible verse Jules quoted to Brett before they executed him.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary on Oct. 14, “Pulp Fiction” has left a massive footprint on moviemaking.
Originally conceived as an anthology by writer-director Quentin Tarantino and his longtime friend, collaborator and Video Archives coworker Roger Avary, the film evolved into a funny, violent, endlessly inventive, non-linear odyssey. In addition to reviving the career of John Travolta, minting a star in Samuel L. Jackson and spawning a still-thriving cottage industry of knockoffs and imitation films, “Pulp” earned the 1994 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or, seven Academy Award nominations and one win (for Tarantino and Avary’s screenplay), while its commercial success ($213 million off of an $8.5 million budget) forever changed the economics of independent cinema.

Samuel L. Jackson has revealed that he's one of the lucky few actors who can make changes to Quentin Tarantino's scripts during production. The pair first worked together on Pulp Fiction in 1994 although Jackson originally auditioned for a role in Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino is known for being somewhat precious about the dialogue and scenes written in his scripts, and only lets his most trusted colleagues make alterations. But Samuel L. Jackson has been giving notes and altering scenes since their very first collaboration.
Speaking to GQ, Samuel L. Jackson reflected on his time playing Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction. After recounting his failed audition for Reservoir Dogs, the actor divulged the casting process for Pulp Fiction, saying that Tarantino approached him directly about the film, remembering his past failed audition. While Tarantino was still in the infancy of his directorial career, Jackson surprised fans by revealing that he was...

It suffered at the box office and failed to win any Oscars, but the 1994 prison drama is still seen by many as greater than The Godfather
The Shawshank Redemption is not the greatest film ever made. Heck, it’s not even one of best films of 1994 – the year of Pulp Fiction, Hoop Dreams, Chungking Express, Exotica, Quiz Show and the last two entries in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy. And yet it continues to sit at or near the top of IMDb’s top 250, currently a shade above The Godfather and The Dark Knight, despite opening to polite reviews, middling box office and a resurgent Oscar campaign that nonetheless yielded zero awards. That’s an incredible comeback story, a video-and-cable-fueled long game as steady and methodical as, say, spending two decades chipping a hole in the prison walls with a rock hammer.

“A concert is no good unless there’s some magic,” Jarvis Cocker told the crowd, soon after Pulp hit the stage in Brooklyn. “You react to us, we react to you — that summons the magic.” The Britpop gods reached New York last weekend, for two glorious nights, on their long-awaited North American reunion tour. Nearly everyone in the room had spent years praying for these shows, so both nights were full of that magic. “You are about to see the 555th concert by Pulp,” a message flashed on the video screen on Friday.

Following his aphasia diagnosis and subsequent retirement in 2022, Bruce Willis has been spending his days getting in a lot of love from his family. That includes frequent visits from ex-wife Demi Moore, with whom Willis shares three children and has maintained a close friendship following their divorce.
Per Deadline, Moore shared the latest update on how Willis is doing during an interview for The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her new movie, The Substance. While Willis has changed dramatically in recent years, Moore suggested that, given the circumstances, the retired actor is doing fairly well. She went on to explain that the trick is to "meet them where they're at" as a way of better enjoying the time spent with Willis, regardless of his health issues.

Quentin Tarantino did not present the Pulp Fiction timeline chronologically, but the movie's three stories are intertwined. To properly weave the Pulp Fiction timeline's unorthodox storytelling together, Quentin Tarantino gathered a stellar ensemble cast. One Pulp Fiction storyline follows two hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta) whose day quickly descends into chaos. Another story follows Travolta's character taking his boss's wife (Uma Thurman) out only for her to overdose. Lastly, in the Pulp Fiction timeline, there's the boxer (Bruce Willis), who finds himself fighting out of the basement of a pawnshop owner in a twisted turn of events.
Pulp Fiction's original three-hour cut was eventually shaved down into the 2-1/2-hour movie that revolutionized gangster cinema. The Pulp Fiction timeline's three stories are divided into seven nonlinear episodes, told over the course of two days. Although this greatly factors into why the characters and stories are so memorable,...

In September 2023, Weekly Shonen Jump launched a new manga series that has since skyrocketed to the top of Japan's bestseller charts. The series, which breaks exciting new ground for the company, has prompted Shonen Jump to embrace what it refers to as the next generation of "Cool Japan."
The aforementioned manga is none other than Kagurabachi, an edgy dark fantasy tale written and illustrated by Takeru Hokazono. As detailed by Japan news outlet 47News, the series captures the "alluring charm" of Japanese swordsmanship through the story of Chihiro Rokuhiro -- an adolescent whose father is murdered by a gang of sorcerers, prompting him to embark on a quest for revenge. Recently, Nordot conducted an interview with Hokazono in which he described what elements inspired him during the creation of Shonen Jump's latest manga sensation.

Last month, we got a look at the trailer for the action thriller Duchess, the latest film from director Neil Marshall. Saban Films will be giving Duchess a digital and VOD release on August 9th… and with that date just one week away, a pair of promotional clips have made their way online. They’re called the “Home Invasion” and “Garage Ambush” clips, and you can watch them right here in this article.
In the UK, Duchess will be getting a limited theatrical release on August 9th, and will then be available for digital download on the 12th.
Marshall wrote the Duchess screenplay with Charlotte Kirk, who also stars as the title character, a tough, working-class, petty criminal who morphs into an anti-heroine to be reckoned with in a murky underworld, in the treacherous world of diamond smuggling. Determined to seek retribution she launches into a vicious and violent pursuit for vengeance.

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are connected through subtle references like nurse Bonnie. Characters from both films, such as Mr. White and Jimmie Dimmick, are confirmed to be related. A theory suggests that both films could be set on the same chaotic day in Los Angeles.
The movies of Quentin Tarantino share many connections through fictional brands, characters, and more, and theres one subtle but clever detail that further connects Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, and you definitely missed it. Theres a confirmed universe of Quentin Tarantinos movies that is divided into two levels: the real world, and the movies that the characters in that world watch. Quentin Tarantino did one of the most interesting feats in Hollywood when he cast John Travolta in his Pulp Fiction. The fans were impressed as the Hollywood filmmaker, revered for his stylized violent scenes and profanity-filled screenplay, revived Travolta’s career with his 1994 crime classic.

John Travolta started very strong in the industry with his good looks, smooth dance moves, and some memorable performances in films like Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Sadly, after some wrong decisions, the Welcome Back, Kotter fame lost his top spot until Tarantino entered his career.
As revealed by the hitmaker, he believed in the potential of the washed-up actor and knew that he could utilize Travolta’s skill to the fullest.

Tarantino's Pulp Fiction introduced "cleaner" Winston Wolfe a.k.a. The Wolf. Harvey Keitel reprised his role as Winston Wolfe in insurance commercials separate from Tarantino's movie universe. Keitel continued his successful acting career beyond Pulp Fiction, collaborating with Scorsese, Tarantino, and many more.
Quentin Tarantinos Pulp Fiction introduced many memorable characters, and one of them returned 20 years later in a project unrelated to the universe of Tarantinos movies. Tarantinos career as a filmmaker began in 1992 with the crime movie Reservoir Dogs, and though it was a big success, Tarantinos big break arrived two years later with Pulp Fiction. Francis Ford Coppola, the fabled director behind classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has poured 40 years of his life and $120 million of his own money into his latest passion project, Megalopolis. This self-funded sci-fi epic follows an architect with the power to stop time as he attempts to rebuild a devastated metropolis as a utopia, despite facing opposition from the corrupt Mayor.

With a star-studded cast including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Aubrey Plaza, expectations are definitely high for this long-awaited film. Making Megalopolis was an expensive and laborious procedure; thus, its box office performance will have a significant influence on Coppola’s legacy in the future.
Since the movie’s May 16, 2024, Cannes Film Festival premiere, initial reviews have been released, and they are polarizing.

Vincent may have shot Marvin on purpose, making him a more unlikable character. Vincent's clumsiness and questionable actions made him likable, but this theory changes that. Despite being reckless, Vincent was kept around by Marsellus, possibly due to loyalty.
Pulp Fiction followed Vincent Vega (John Travolta), who wasn’t exactly the best of Marsellus Wallace’s (Ving Rhames) hitmen, but one theory fixes this problem by making one of Vincent’s scenes a lot worse. After the success of Reservoir Dogs in 1992, Quentin Tarantino made another crime movie two years later: Pulp Fiction. Famously told in a nonlinear style, Pulp Fiction is formed by different segments starring different characters, but they are all connected in some way. Despite each segment having different lead characters, the ones considered as Pulp Fiction’s main characters are Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson).

A little helpful financial advice to Quentin Tarantino netted John Travolta his big comeback.
Travolta recently appeared at the TCM Classic Film Festival alongside Pulp Fiction co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and Harvey Keitel to commemorate Tarantino's landmark crime film's 30th anniversary and longterm impact on modern cinema. During its Q&a panel, the actor recalled the time he first met Tarantino in his apartment, leading to them playing some board games inspired by Travolta's most iconic films from Saturday Night Fever to Welcome Back Kotter. This, in turn, got Travolta thinking, "'Okay, I don't know this boy, but I need to know how he's doing financially.' So I copiously run through his finances with him. I said, 'Okay, now you're an up-and-coming artist. You have to have some reserve. So tell me how much you have.' And I went through his whole accounting and all that stuff,...

When a Ping Pong anime series was first announced in early 2014, I had to ask: Why? Taiyo Matsumoto’s manga had already been adapted to film back in 2002. Directed by first-timer Fumihiko Sori with a script by rising star Kankuro Kudo, the film launched the career of actor Shido Nakamura. It even came with songs by Supercar and Boom Boom Satellites. I couldn’t imagine anything better than that. When I learned Masaaki Yuasa was directing the series, I became even more curious – and confused. Yuasa was one of my all-time favorite anime directors (and still is.) His 2007 science fiction series Kaiba changed my vision of what TV anime could be. He would have been a great fit to adapt Yuasa’s epic No. 5 . Instead he was hired to go back over old ground. I didn’t understand why at the time. Now I recognize that of all Matsumoto’s comics,...

Pulp Fiction almost showed Marvin's head exploding, but it was cut to avoid an Nc-17 rating. Marvin's death scene originally included him being shot in the throat and head. Tarantino defends the use of graphic violence in movies, believing it affects audiences.
Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is packed with iconic lines and scenes, but one, in particular, would have had a completely different effect on the audience as it was almost a lot more graphic in two different ways. Quentin Tarantino has become one of the most respected filmmakers of his generation, but he has also earned a place as one of the most controversial ones. Tarantino adds big doses of violence and blood to every one of his movies, which, along with some storylines, have created controversy, but haven’t stopped his movies from being a success.

Quentin Tarantino's films are known for their clever world-building and hidden details that most viewers miss. The use of vintage materials, including cars, aids in expressing the personalities of Tarantino's characters. Tarantino uses music to enhance storytelling and reinforce themes, often connecting scenes through song choices.
Quentin Tarantino is known for his exceptionally written dialogue, complex and unforgettable characters, and asynchronous storytelling, yet an overlooked aspect of his movies is his effective use of small hidden details to improve their overall framework. From his 1992 crime-thriller debut, Reservoir Dogs, to his three-hour alternative history epic Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, clever world-building can be found throughout Tarantino's filmography.
The Quentin Tarantino shared universe consists of the "realer-than-real" world where Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds take place, and then there's the movie-in-a-movie realm, in which characters experience hyperrealistic phenomena, and that includes From Dusk Till Dawn and the Kill Bill movies.

Demand for The Hives has gotten so high that they just can’t keep up. Err, at least that’s the reason the band gave when they announced that they are now accepting applications for folks to start officially-sanctioned The Hives cover bands. That’s right: The Hives are franchising themselves.
“[We] can no longer keep up with public demand for concerts… Q2 and Q3 reports both point to the need for a new solution to this problem,” a humorous Instagram post from the band read. “We have now after much sighing and woe come up with what we think is the most elegant solution. We need several The Hives…. You can now start your very own The Hives and put on a show!”
The announcement post went on to state that “rules and regulations” would apply “upon application,” and included a link to a page on the band’s website...

Shannon Lee remains puzzled about Quentin Tarantino's portrayal of her father, Bruce Lee, as "the a**hole" in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Shannon believes Tarantino may have based his portrayal on false stories about Bruce, often from "white men" who saw him as arrogant. Shannon suggests that Tarantino should acknowledge that his portrayal was fictional and not reflective of Bruce Lee's true character.
Shannon Lee, the daughter of the iconic actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, has revealed that she continues to be unaware as to why filmmaker Quentin Tarantino chose to portray her father as "the a**hole" in his 2019 drama-comedy Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Back when Once Upon a Time in Hollywood first released, Shannon spoke out against the film's portrayal of Bruce Lee, leading to a number of headline-making back and forth interviews between Bruce's daughter and the Pulp Fiction director.

With The Boy and the Heron gearing up to be one of Hayao Miyazaki's best movies ever, it makes sense to start looking back on his legendary career. Miyazaki's directorial debut was his first and only movie not to be produced by Studio Ghibli, the second feature film in the Lupin III franchise, The Castle of Cagliostro. The Castle of Cagliostro premiered in 1979. Ghibli was founded in 1985. The Castle of Cagliostro may not be a Ghibli movie, but it has many of the hallmarks of Miyazaki's style and although it was not initially popular, it has gone down as a masterpiece and helped to establish Miyazaki as an icon of anime.
