“Sausage Party” may be a film about a hotdog that wants to have sex with a bun, but it still represents a watershed moment for Hollywood. The raunchy comedy that’s grossed $65 million after two weeks in theaters is the first R-rated CG animated movie. Co-written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, “Sausage Party” has sex, violence and curse words in a format that has always been reserved for family-friendly fare.

The movie features the voices of comedic stars like Rogen, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, James Franco and Paul Rudd playing anthropomorphized food items who discover their only reason for existing is to be eaten by humans. Directors Conrad Vernon (“Monsters vs. Aliens”) and Greg Tiernan (TV’s “Thomas & Friends”) have backgrounds in traditional animation aimed at children, but there’s nothing traditional about this deranged dark comedy.

Back in 2007, Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl starred in Judd Apatow’s hit comedy “Knocked Up.” The film was well received and became a modern comedy classic, but Heigl quickly seemed to have second thoughts about it. She revealed in a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair that she didn’t like the way she was portrayed in the film and how it “paints the women as shrews,” while the men look “lovable,” further adding that “it was hard for me to love the movie.”

In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Rogen addressed the long-time feud and said that he was surprised by Heigl’s reaction, because he says their time on set was great and there were never any problems.

Seth Rogen’s dark comedy “Sausage Party” hits theaters this weekend. The animated film tells the story of grocery store food finding out what happens to them in the real world where they are chopped up, boiled and cooked so they can be eaten by people. The film is rated R but it was first categorized as Nc-17 by the MPAA because of an eight-minute food orgy scene.

Rogen sat down with Howard Stern to discuss the film and what he had to cut to get the rating he wanted.

“There is a very sexually charged scene in the film, there is a pita bread with a scrotum,” he told Stern, adding that the lunch meat were involved in an orgy. “We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, ‘Ok, these are like our sacrificial lambs.’”

On Monday morning, we woke up to the news that gender matters – at least to Screen Australia, which has launched a scheme of the same name dedicating $5m to developing and promoting professional opportunities for women working in the Australian film industry over the next three years.

I guess the best place to start would be with this week’s Aunt May story, namely that Sony is developing an Aunt May solo movie, or that’s what I said. Because Comic Book Resources reached out to their source and got a denial:

When reached by Cbr News, a source within Sony stated that the report of a Spider-Man spinoff starring a young Aunt May is a “silly rumor” with “no validity whatsoever.”

Despite the struggles Sony has had with the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, they are still attempting to structure a universe revolving around the famed Wall-Crawler. Much of this world-building is happening through the spinoffs they.ll be releasing in the coming years, There.s Sinister Six, the Venom spinoff (which may also include Carnage) and a a project tentatively titled Glass Ceiling that would feature several female Spider-Man characters teaming up. Now that DC and Marvel have each set out their respective superhero stalls for the next five to six years, all eyes have turned to Sony with one burning question at the forefront of everyone’s mind: what is the future of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise?

We know that the company has postponed the third instalment in the series for at least two years, meaning the threequel won’t crawl onto the silver screen until 2018 at least. And it appears as though the studio wish to use that extended window to overhaul or, at the very least, fine-tune the series going into the future.

Who knows what's really going on with Spider-Man at this point other than those who are directly involved with making things happen?

Sony Pictures still seems to be sorting out how to move forward with their "Spider-Man" franchise and today, one of the more interesting rumors about what they are considering has emerged over at Badass Digest.

The site says the studio is developing a project currently going by the in-development (and decidedly not final) title "Glass Ceiling". The project aims to bring all of the female Spider-Man characters together.

This could well be the female-lead Spider-Man movie that Lisa Joy Nolan was hired to pen the script for back in August this year. At the time it wasn't certain which character would be the focus, but this would seen to indicate it won't be one but an ensemble.

The site suggests the likes of The Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl, Silk, Spider Woman and Firestar are all mentioned as possibilities for the project. None of this is confirmed, and for now...

The deafening silence from Sony over the future of its planned Spider-Man movie universe is doing little to dampen down the rumour mill. The last we heard, the planned Venom movie was off the schedule, and the Sinister Six film - that Drew Goddard has been involved with - would introduce a new actor as Spider-Man. At this stage, it'd be a surprise to many if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 actually went ahead as originally planned.

Something else that was rumoured was that Sony would be the first out of the traps with a superhero movie headlined by a woman. The obvious choice, given that she was seeded in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is Black Cat. But while Sony has been making its mind up, both Marvel and DC have stolen its thunder.

There was a hot 20 minutes the other day before Marvel announced it's complete Phase 3 line-up that people were thinking it was going to be a big return home for Spider-Man, currently looking pretty broke and exhausted over in Sony Pictures land. 

I do no think that is possible. If you're Sony, why give away all that potential superhero franchise money to the people who Obviously do not need their once-banner property back? At least not until you drive it all the way into the ground, and Amazing Spider-Man 2 is not rock bottom.

Thusly, we get rumors of a Sinister Six movie that will re-boot the character, or a Venom movie, maybe (because give that character another chance to kill the franchise, why not?). Now, in the craziest, zeitgeist-chasing-ist, wacked-out rumor of a Spider-Man movie yet, we get some rumored details on that "female lead" installment we've suspected.

It turns out to be the missing sister, Sheila. Which really makes you think, if you didn’t already, that it’s a wonder Helen and Julie got out of that piece alive.

I have little story I’d like to tell about the Hollywood Glass Ceiling.

I frequently talk with my director girlfriends about how hard it is for women to get directing gigs on major TV Shows and studio feature films. But I rarely question the system. Until now.

Recently, something wonderful happened to a film school acquaintance of mine – he had won the Student Emmy for his truly great thesis film. This very prestigious award was presented by a producer/director of a prime-time television drama on Fox. This producer was impressed by my acquaintance’s thesis film and invited him on set to shadow the director (shadowing is when someone observes a working director during film or TV production). After shadowing, my friend was hired to direct an episode.
