Hello, dear readers! We’re back with a brand new assortment of horror and sci-fi home media releases this week, and as we creep closer and closer towards Halloween, there are definitely a handful of titles coming out on Tuesday that would be fun to check out as you get ready for the spooky season. Arrow Video is keeping busy with a handful of releases, including a 4K version of Dario Argento’s The Cat O’ Nine Tails and Blind Beast. And speaking of Argento, Blue Underground is showing Two Evil Eyes - his collaboration with George A. Romero - some love with their 4K presentation of the film. Larry Cohen’s A Return to Salem’s Lot is finally getting a Blu-ray, and if you missed the latest Conjuring film in theaters earlier this year, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is headed home on multiple formats this week as well.

5 Hidden Film Treasures Among The Video Nasties
Whenever you think of Video Nasties, it is normally the notorious big names that enter your head. Cannibal Holocaust! SS Experiment Camp! I Spit on your Grave! These are all censor-baiting, controversial works which have achieved mythical status as to their nastiness. This is due to the fact that some idiots in the British establishment singled out 72 films as being the work of The Dark Lord – they would corrupt and deprave a whole chunk of the British public if they were not banned.

By banning the films, the UK censors enshrined into legend a load of cheap and crappy horror flicks that everyone would have ignored had the Daily Mail and Mary Whitehouse not persistently hammered home what putrid trash these films were. Of course, banning a movie makes it a total come on for lovers of the perverse, forbidden and bizarre.

I spent my teenage years looking down video...

Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide DVD Review
Okay, so here’s a quick question for you all … how many dog owners amongst you have suddenly experienced man’s best friend exhibit unusually disturbing behavioural tics after sitting them down in front of the television and watching a few horror movies together?

Anyone? No? No sudden canine savagery? No impulsive howling at the moon? No gratuitous tearing of flesh? No violent rending of bone? Not even any unwelcome soiling of carpets?

I only ask this question as, in regards to the Video Nasties furore of the mid-Eighties, Conservative MP Graham Bright once (in)famously appeared on television and categorically stated that “I believe there is research taking place and it will show that these films not only affect young people … but I believe they affect dogs as well.”
