The 18 Best Brooklyn Nine-Nine Episodes Ranked
Image
Do you like your sitcoms lighthearted with a hint of mystery? Do you think Jake Peralta is an amazing "detective slash genius"? Do you often restrain yourself from blurting out "title of your sex tape" when someone says something that sounds unintentionally inappropriate? Then you're probably a fan of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" debuted on Fox in 2013, one year after Samberg's exit from "Saturday Night Live." His "Nine-Nine" character, Jake Peralta, is a detective with the NYPD. As with many Samberg roles, Peralta is an endearing goofball, an adult who faces the challenge of growing up without letting go of the boisterous joy that some mistake for immaturity.

After five seasons, Fox unceremoniously canceled "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" in 2018. However, NBC picked it up a day later, ultimately airing the show for three more seasons. There are 153 episodes, and every fan has their favorite. From the...

12 Scary Movies That Take Place On Halloween (That Aren't Part Of The Halloween Franchise)
Image
There was some brief debate — many years ago — as to whether or not an action picture like "Die Hard," set at a Christmas party, should qualify as a Christmas movie. That is: is "Die Hard" appropriately emblematic of the holiday season? These days, it's widely accepted as such — with some websites even finding scientific evidence to prove it — but there was a time when what did and did not qualify as a Christmas move was a matter of multiple critical kerfuffles. In 2022, the broad consensus appears to be that anything set at Christmas, even briefly, could qualify. Older critics have seen the definition broaden.

No such debate was ever required for a Halloween movie. What qualifies as a "Halloween movie" has, if one asks a die-hard horror nut, always been quite broad. Indeed, nearly anything in the horror genre can be watched in the month of October and count as a Halloween movie.

WWE WrestleMania 37 review: WrestleMania is running wild…at least on Saturday
Image
It seems that every year we go in to the biggest WWE show of the year bemoaning some lacking build-ups or facing constant internet pessimism but there’s something so magical about this event for fans. So, as we give it another go in Tampa Bay at the Raymond James Stadium (the venue meant for last year), the fans have returned and “WrestleMania is Back in Business”. And once agin we have two nights of action, with the second looking more stacked but the first featuring a historic main event. There were a lot of hopes, a lot of speculation and as we will soon find one hell of an unexpected heel turn by mother nature. What better way to mark my official first year of WWE Roobla reviewing! This is WrestleMania baby, there’s lots to get through, so let us not waste time…

Here is what went down...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 13 Review: The Hope That is You, Part 2
Wilson Cruz, Robinne Fanfair, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Blu del Barrio, Sonequa Martin-Green, David Ajala, and Mary Wiseman in Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
I'm not ashamed to admit I have been highly entertained by the most recent season of Star Trek: Discovery. It's had refreshing dilemmas, positive introductions, and pushed the envelope with a cast that has weathered some pretty amazing adventures.

That being said, Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 13 isn't the finale I would've wished for it.

I think the main problem is that, where there should've been an A plot and a B plot with the B plot -- whether it was The Chain or The Burn -- taking a secondary position by being wrapped up before the finale, they chose to give both plots equal priority here.

This created too much resolution to fit comfortably into a single offering when they're constantly segueing between the two stories

On the one hand, we have the mystery of The Burn, a cataclysmic event that wreaked tragedy across the galaxy and obliterated the...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 10 Review: Admiral Peralta

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 10

After the excellent, season-best episode “Trying,” the Jake-Amy pregnancy storyline has been doled out pretty awkwardly. For instance, after finding out that they’re pregnant one episode after “Trying” at the end of “Ding Dong,” it takes until this week’s episode “Admiral Peralta” for Jake and Amy to tell the rest of the Nine-Nine. Fittingly, the cast reacts with little fanfare, but only because they’ve noticed Amy trying to hide her figure, a nice in-joke about Melissa Fumero doing the same throughout this season to hide her real-life pregnancy. Perhaps some episodes were reshuffled, and I’m not suggesting that the pregnancy storyline should take over the entire season, it’s just that the timing of how it’s been deployed has felt unnatural.

Anyway, “Admiral Peralta” centers on Jake trying to reunite his father and grandfather on...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 8 Review: The Takeback

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 8

I don’t know about everyone else, but after being holed up in my house practicing social distancing during this coronavirus outbreak, it sure feels good to spend time with some friends. Even if those friends are fictional television characters on an NBC sitcom.

A new episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a consistently funny feel-good show, would have felt like an oasis during this uncertain situation no matter what, but it especially helps that this was our yearly check-in with Doug Judy. I know everyone’s mileage may vary with the Pontiac Bandit, but I find Andy Samberg and Craig Robinson’s goofy chemistry to be infectious. Whether randomly breaking out into New Edition songs, indulging each other’s O-Town references, or just generally bringing out each other’s nerdiest impulses, Jake and Doug are the most natural friends on the...

It’s the circle of life, in Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s “Ding Dong"
Dirk Blocker, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Joel McKinnon Miller, Andy Samberg, and Stephanie Beatriz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
As far as turning points in sitcoms go, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s “Ding Dong”—as in, “the Wuntch is dead”—provides one hell of a turning point. Not only does it see the untimely death of Holt’s arch-nemesis Madeline Wuntch, but it ends with Jake and Amy learning that they’re going to have a baby. It’s the circle of life,…...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 7

After diverting from the regular formula and delivering a season-best episode with “Trying” last week, Brooklyn Nine-Nine gets back to its traditional structure tonight, but didn’t lose any momentum in the quality department. “Ding Dong” is a near-perfect episode of the show, with a familiar A/B-plot structure that not only plays with the show’s rich six-season-plus history, but also advances the overarching plot of the season. It’s funny, emotional, and utilizes the main cast in a way that allows everyone to shine. After a few middling episodes, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 has found its groove.

The episode begins with a bombshell: Madeline Wuntch has died. Holt’s natural instinct is to not believe the news; he points out that his other nemesis the Disco Strangler tried faking his death in a similar way. However, it takes a...
