"Gilligan's Island" wasn't the most sophisticated television series ever to beam into our living rooms. For three seasons between 1964 and 1967 (and over decades of syndication thereafter), viewers turned in to watch seven castaways stranded on an uncharted island somewhere far off the coast of Hawaii attempt and inevitably fail to find their way back to civilization. In just about every case, their endeavors were bungled by Gilligan (Bob Denver), an energetic young shipmate with a heart of gold and a headful of rocks.

The show never deviated from this stupidly simple setup (despite the network's initial efforts), but it was so good-naturedly silly and energetically performed that you excused the rigid repetition. The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. Billed as a “semi-autobiographical” collection of songs, the album will feature music and lyrics by Potter, and will be based on the filmmaker’s experience coming of age as a young woman in 1960s London, as a “young rebel” and activist. Musical arrangements on the album will feature work from guitarist Fred Frith, who has long collaborated with Potter on her film scores. The album will be released July 14.

Best known for her directorial work on features such as 1992’s Orlando, an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel starring Tilda Swinton, and Ginger & Rosa (2012), starring Elle Fanning, Potter had a music career that predates her work in cinema. It's easy to be dismissive of "Spice World," the 1997 musical comedy about the global musical sensation, the Spice Girls. While the movie has seen some critical reappraisal in recent years, there are still other critics who disregard the film as a frivolous, pointless mess. "Spice World" is far from pointless; some people just missed the point. "Spice World" screenwriter Kim Fuller, brother of British music super-producer Simon Fuller, based his script on the Beatles' 1964 film "A Hard Day's Night," and "Spice World" is a subversive riff that's so much smarter than people give it credit for.

Sony Pictures are looking to remake the 1985 Jagged Edge as a vehicle for Halle Berry. Although development on the project is still in its fledgling stages, Sony have made the project a priority and are on the hunt for a scribe.

The decision to remake the thriller was that of Steven Bersch, Head of Sony’s Worldwide Acquisitions Group. Details are still to be worked out on how to move the project forward, but Sony has made it clear this is one project they want to put into motion.
