The last time Tom Howe spoke with Deadline about his musical compositions for the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking, the composer expressed the hope he would be able to further unpack the opening theme song, “Frightening Fishes” in a Season 2.

Season 2 arrived on the streamer in October 2024, and Howe got his chance to do that unpacking at Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television.

“The nice thing was about going into Season 2, you can do a lot of variations on the theme and also introduce new themes with different characters and things like that,” Howe said on the show’s panel. “And there also was an opportunity for some longer cues. So that also gives more chance of that kind of, you know, up picking of things and trying different variations and things in different modes here, and things like that.”

Shrinking star and music supervisor Christa Miller revealed that Shrinking Season 3 will start production next week in Pasadena and Altadena, where it has always shot, and she stressed the importance of keeping that location after the Eaton wildfire that devastated Altadena last month.

“Next week we start shooting Season 3 of Shrinking in Los Angeles, in the heart of Pasadena, and it’s a really special moment for our cast and crew because not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we film in Altadena as well,” she began in a video posted to Instagram. “After the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles, it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected.”

Both the Eaton fire, which broke out in Altadena, and the Palisades fire, which leveled many homes in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Malibu, were 100% contained Saturday after blazing for nearly a month on opposite ends of Los Angeles.

Shrinking music supervisors Christa Miller and Tony Von Pervieux approach song selection for the Apple TV+ comedy series by isolating specific songs for certain scenes in the show. While they bank as many songs as possible in a shared playlist, they also come into every season having a few names in mind who they want to fit into the half-hour episodes, especially new artists.

Miller, who also stars as Liz in the series that follows Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) as he treats his therapy clients in unorthodox methods that have surprisingly good results, revealed that some placements get “stolen” or moved up based on how good a song is, which happened with both needle drops in Season 2 Episode 2 — “Never Been Better” by Ben Abraham and “cope” by Aka lisa.

Richard Lester’s film The Four Musketeers is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. With an all-star cast that includes Oliver Reed, Faye Dunaway, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain, Michael York, and Sir Christopher Lee, the film will be shown on Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 at 7:00 pm as a special tribute to Sir Christopher as well as part of the theatre's Anniversary Classics series. Actors Richard Chamberlain and Michael York are scheduled to appear at the screening and take part in a Q & A and discussion on the making of the film.

Marketing for The CW’s upcoming Arrow spinoff, The Flash, hasn’t been shy in releasing footage from the upcoming series. After a short promo debuted along with Arrow’s second season finale, a 5-minute trailer for The Flash was released online. It seems to happen just about every season: There are a handful of hours of primetime that will tax even the most high-capacity DVRs. We've already discussed the "Revenge"-"Good Wife" conundrum; here are four other time periods that could get crowded in the fall. All times are Eastern/Pacific.

Mondays at 10: Time for a 'Revolution'?

ABC and CBS are holding fast to their 10 p.m. Monday dramas, and with good reason: "Castle" and "Hawaii Five-0" both average in the 12 million-viewer range and rank among the Top 50 shows among adults 18-49. But while they're both solid, neither one is so dominant that NBC's new drama "Revolution" can't carve out a place for itself.

London Short Film Festival

The new year's festival season starts here, and so does the revolution. Short film is often regarded as a stepping stone to features, and there's plenty of that potential here, even a few big names (Michael Fassbender in Goldfish). But it's also a potentially radical art form in itself, and an admirably inclusive one. So here you'll find documentaries selected by Occupy London; showcases of queer cinema; black and Asian stories; feminist porn; found film; experimental shorts; special guests; parties; a film from Jake and Dinos Chapman (The Organ Grinder's Monkey, with Rhys Ifans); and a music doc with a live improvised score on homemade instruments. Something for everyone, then. There's even an evening of films about sad, lonely men (including Mark Gatiss, Matthew Holness and Roger Allam).

Tuesday night is the night of Something For Everyone Who Likes Watching Movies. Austin Public Library's Polish Film Series is showing Borys Lankosz' The Reverse (Rewers) at the Howson Branch, and over at Twin Oaks Branch you can see Kung Fu Panda 2 (why yes that is a 2011 title). You can find out more about these films on the Apl website. Austin Film Society members (and those who are lucky enough to get tickets for the remaining seats) can see Two for the Road starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.

Project Nim -- Afs Selects returns with an encore limited engagement of James Marsh's Oscar-shortlisted documentary about a chimpanzee raised as a human. I found the occasional re-enactments melodramatic and diminishing.

Most of these films I have not even seen yet (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and some I will never see (Footloose).

Something for everyone as love stories, psychological chillers, political thrillers, comedies and more join the festival's line-up. The Toronto International Film Festival has announced another huge batch of titles for Tiff 2011 this year, putting their total well over 100. While there was plenty in the original line-ups announced, there's even more in these selections of films that I'm very excited to see this year, including Nacho Vigalondo's new sci-fi film Extraterrestrial, which we've teased before (though I'm surprised it's not a Midnight Madness film). A task can't get "more impossible", but the prospect of seeing everything I want at this year's Toronto International Film Festival just got more impossible. We've already shown you the incredible line-ups for the Galas & Special Presentations, Real-to-Reel (Documentary), Midnight Madness, Vanguard, Tiff Kids, City to City, Canadian Features, and Canada First! programs. Now even more must-see movies have been thrown into the mix. Tiff has announced that the spy thriller Page Eight (starring Bill Nighy, Rachel Weisz, and Ralph Fiennes) will be the closing night film in the Galas section. The return of Tron to the big screen wins the weekend box office, leaving Yogi Bear and a host of other releases in its wake...

Between new releases and expanding releases, there were five movies grabbing for a little extra box office noteworthiness this weekend. The biggest of these big deals was, of course, Tron: Legacy. After all, it's a sequel 27 years in the making, featuring some of the best special effects the wizards of Hollywood can come up with, starring one of the best actors of his generation. Then, there are the other movies which have crept out this weekend, from an animated talking bear to dueling ballerinas and a hard-luck tale of a working-class fighter and his troublesome family.
